I feel like the EULA change is acomplishing exactly the opisite of what mojang intended. They don't want you to have to pay again to enjoy minigames right? That's what this whole thing is about? Well guess what, right now i can win minigames on sucesful servers without paying, because they balance it. VIP Is really just to support the server, and they give you a reward of more classes. Mojang says you can't donate for classes. They also say that you can do pay to play. This means that to support themselves big expensive servers are going to go pay to play. Right now i can play on Hypixel, mineplex, mcpvp, and playmindcrack without paying, but if i want special perks i can pay. After mojang starts inforceing this i'll have to pay just to play!!! Insted of eliminating having to pay twice for the game, they're forceing me to pay!!!

That is a very good point. By preventing people from paying large sums of money, you force the rest of the players to cover the deficit.
The counterargument is, of course, that if you play on the server, you do kind of have an obligation to contribute.
I really feel bad, however, for the players who've spent sometimes thousands of dollars on items. Just like BAM and your money is completely and utterly wasted, while all the other players get the same stuff for free. Of course, I guess it would work if the server started charging a monthly fee, then summed up how much you'd spent on purchases and gave you the corresponding number of prepaid months, but then we get back to the point you make;
That EVERYONE then has to pay ~just to play~. In many cases, that is going to force people off of the server. In many cases, I think it will actually drive more kids into spending money, and in a far more manipulative way, which actually contradicts the entire point of the changes in the first place.
Unfortunately, it's really just a no-win situation, and the best Mojang can do is try to find the situation with the least downsides. Whether they've done so is dubious, but w/e, the community will survive in one way or another...

I believe in the Invisible Pink Unicorn, bless her Invisible Pinkness.
I personally believe this whole situation has gotten a bit out of hand, no I have no clue what size of stick Mojang carries but a team of 25 can not check 100's of thousands of servers. Plus the fact that there may be some who code because they love it and etc., great what about the other 98% of the population that doesn't.
While poor parents their kids steal their credit card, I know its awful, discipline your kids. It's not your fault your kid stole your wallet and they would do that for any game not just minecraft.
Servers cannot survive off of good hearted people and hope forever, as much as I wish that were the case the economy doesn't work that way.

There are two options I can think of, that could solve this problem:
1. Mojang makes all non Minecraft Realms servers at own risk
2. Mojang gets an "Ethics Team", or Rule Enforcers or whatever and you can pay monthly
to let them verify, that your server is not used abusively and you can use their official logo.
-> The only reason you someone wouldn't like this is because they know their server isn't
complying with the rules.
3. The community accepts what Mojang changed and lives with it
4. The community helps in making suggestions toward a goal of getting both sides happy, instead
of just saying how crap this is. We can still make this work, with everybody happy! =)
Why was Mojang compared to EA? They are trying to do the exact opposite...
Any logical or grammatical errors, free feel to suggest something or correct me.
The servers that rely on "donator perks" are the kinds of servers that need to be shut down. They're pretty much saying "Our server is so bad we've had to rely on selling you Mojang's content to be able to stay alive".
Whereas if they actually innovated on the game and added content of their own, they wouldn't be having such a bad time.
un-innovative servers are the ones that will be hurt. This is how the world works. If a company is unable to be better than the other companies it goes out of business. Therefore, companies strive to offer better content and the MineCraft world has a whole gets better.
More servers isn't always better. Few people who are actually good at development and programming can make high profit servers. Minecraft lets you make servers. If you want to host it on your home PC for you and some friends, SO BE IT. GO DO THAT. IT'S FREE! But don't go purchasing a $50 a month dedicated host that can support 500 people at one time and hope to rely on donations alone. That isn't how the real world works.
To those of you saying "If I make a mod I'm not allowed to sell it". You are allowed to sell content that you have made. If YOU wrote a bukkit plugin you are allowed to sell it. It doesn't matter if it relies on Mojang's code or not. Minecraft relies on Microsoft's or Apple's code. With out their OS Minecraft wouldn't be able to run! But Mojang can still sell their game with out being sued by Microsoft or Apple you can sell your code with out being sued by Mojang... That's how it works. Say you write a plugin that displays very nice particle effects over bow shots. You can sell that to players in game.
If some one else writes a plugin to do something, YOU ARE NOT allowed to sell that with out THEIR permission.
If you want to charge people to play on your server, that is perfectly fine. It is pretty much saying "If you want to use my computers resources, and connect to my machine over the internet, you're going to have to pay. Mojang does not own your internet when you host a server.
But Minecraft does NOT use Microsoft's or Apple's code to run the game... they use Java to run the game And second you shouldn't be able to sell a mod/plugin but you should be able to advertise using adfly or anything else. Creating a mod/plugins requires you use Mojang's code and in their EULA it states "make commercial use of anything we‘ve made" "try to make money from anything we‘ve made" making code for their game and selling isn't right. Look at it like a tree. Everything branches from one another Minecraft-->Plugin Minecraft-->Mods So trying to make money off of basically DLCs in Minecraft IS illegal. And that white bit there at the end. Well... idk what caused that
I for one am glad for this, on this one server that I had joined a while back, had this game breaking trick for donators that they could locate peopl just by typing in a command and someones name and it would give you their coordinates. This was nasty as it was a server that allowed griefing (A true survival server imho). so it didn't matter where your base was if someone could track your location whenever they wanted. It will be nice to see those sort of perks gone.
I can't stand pay-to-win or micro-transactions so i support this. Mojang never intended for things to end up like this and it's too bad they didn't stop it early on. Now people are so used to it and servers rely on this bs in order to stay running. Doing it now pisses so many people off and I can understand why.

Lois: Together we can do anything: face any foe, overcome any obstacle.
Peter: Yeah, climb any mountain, rent any video, dial any phone. And not just our phone, Lois, other people's phones. Decent phones, God-fearing phones, phones that everybody else gave up on, but we knew better because we were a team!
Brian: What the hell are you talking about?
The whole point of this EULA is to get rid of pay to win servers and kids stealing their parents credit cards to buy stuff (Correct me if I'm wrong, seems that way to me though). Obviously these are bad but, do we need to change how donations work to fix it? Even if their are no actual perks, kids will still steal their parents credit cards to help out servers they like. Pay to win servers are run by greedy and capitalistic server owners, we all know that. But do we need to really stop that? They aren't ruining the minecraft community, their are plenty of servers that aren't pay to win. although on most servers you can pay to get AHEAD, but you can still usually pass them if you are good enough Or have enough time. If you don't like pay to win servers because they are ripping people off and are money pits, DONT PLAY ON THEM. I'm not saying I support them, I think donor kits should relatively balance.
Anyways, why shouldnt we be able to sell in game perks? Mojang isn't losing money. Many server owners put a lot of money and hardwork into their servers, shouldn't they get some money in return to help cover the costs? Players general don't donate because they like the server, they do it to get an advantage.
Of course, maybe Mojand is just trying to make minecraft servers the way they think minecraft should be like, a game where you don't pay to get ahead , you play.
A good compromise would be a limit on the costs of server sold things, like many have said.
cant wait for all the hate I'm bound to get for saying my opinion!
-edit- (additional notes/things). mojang wants players to have the same playing experience. Some people cannot afford to donate to servers, so they won't be able to get that extra kit or have an extra plot. Boohoo, life isn't fair. Some people are always going to be better off. Look at it is way, your getting a small taste of the real world. Anyways, playing experiences will never be the same. There will always be people that dominate, and those who are dominated.
Will server owners be affected? Like will server owners be forbidden from having a world for just the owners and operators, or is it just for ranks. Also, can you set up a Patreon for the server or sell out of game items, like server branded tshirts and backpacks, for hard currency?
