So 4J announced on twitter that they are working on getting 1.8 onto the console which means the next big update should in theory contain 1.7 and 1.8. This means that the console version should be caught up to PC, if not just slightly behind. What do you guys think this means for the new 1.9 update PC will be getting? Do you think they will try and put it on Console around the same time/shortly after it's released on PC?

No. Here's the logic.
CE has announced that the next big update is 1.8. Prior to this happening everything will be small updates getting us ready for the big one.
This means to me that they are still working on it, it is not 100% yet (but it could be close)
PC is working on 1.9 already. I don't know how long they've been at it, but I'm sure it wasn't started yesterday.
even if we were to get 1.8 tomorrow, they then have to start translating code from PC to work for CE. Some of the CE's code works differently from the others, so that will lengthen the process.
weve seen first hand that it's not a quick process to copy paste this stuff, so it only makes sense that this will take a while for us to catch up to them on 1.9. I doubt that PC is going to hold back the release so that CE can catch up (considering that it's two different companies).

not unless players are in-addition to the blank map from the start, also get 1 command block, and sponge blocks work like the pc version, or the slime block is added.
