This suggestion is not changing the ratios of what it takes to craft, but reducing them into their simplest form.
For example: It takes 3 Wood Planks to make 6 Wood Slabs. My suggestion would have it so you can just use 1 wood plank for 2 slabs. For items than do not have a 1:X or X:1 ratio, such as glass to panes, they would reduce to their simplest form, so glass to pane would be 3 for 8 (instead of 6 for 16)
There have been several time for me personally where I fall 1 or 2 short of something, yet dont have the required crafting numbers (such as 5 planks for 4 stairs instead of 6). Having only to make the small amount, it saves some time from gathering items or saves some space not having to have extra items that wont be used in the near future.
You can't use a wood block to make slabs. It needs to be converted into planks first. You do understand the "simple" crafting on the console is still based off of the actual recipes, right?
Not to mention that 1 wood = 4 planks and 3 planks = 6 slabs ...
So 1 wood equaling 2 slabs is a tremendous waste. I'm assuming you meant this to be some type of "time saver" or something, hence the reduced yield?
(such as 5 planks for 1 stair).
Same answer I gave above. Because 5 planks do not equal 1 stair. What would the recipe look like? Because it would have to be a new recipe, craftable in the grid as well. This means adding a new recipe for 1 wood=2 slabs for all wood types. And 3 glass=8 panes for all colors of glass, etc. As a different recipe it also means that it would be separate tile under the "simple crafting" menu, making the menu more convoluted than it already is.
So you see, it doesn't make crafting any simpler. You should probably re-name this thread "Complicating Crafting Ratios".
Yes I meant planks for wood blocks, the not sure why I have the 5:1 ratio as its 6:4 and hence 3:2. Regardless, I am not suggesting they add a second set of recipes, I am suggesting they replace the original ones that can be reduced.
EDIT: The 5 planks and 1 stair were correct, in one sense. I did not explain correctly that I only needed 1 stair, while having 5 planks on me so could not craft the recipe.
I know what you are trying to say; you are saying if 6 planks are needed to make 4 stairs, then 3 planks should be able to make 2 stairs. But if you want to keep the 6:4 recipe, you would need to create a new recipe, repeatable in grid-crafting, for the 3:2 ratio (for example, 3 planks in an "ell" shape).
That new recipe would need to be represented as a new tile under the "console crafting" system, namely because each tile represents a different recipe. Two recipes means two tiles.
