So in creative mode we have the button that clears all of the items in your hotbar. But I suggest a new option for creative and survival mode: The clear inventory option. All you have to do is open up your inventory, hold down X, then a pop-up will come up saying: "Are you sure you want to clear your inventory?"
Alternative:
There can be a trashcan icon, and when you drag an item on top of the trashcan it gets rid of that item.
