My kingdom for a boat that doesn't go to sticks the second I look at a sand block or am going faster than 1 block per hour. A couple of years ago, someone mentioned making a boat out of iron, I'm all for it. Even if it takes 9 ingots.
I'll even sacrifice a little speed for durability if necessary, but navigating a river is murder right now.
It would also be cool, but absolutely not necessary, if the Iron Boat could be an ice breaker and power through ice blocks at top speed.
Like your idea about ironclads. How about the ability to link several boats together, daisy-chain style? Maybe using the tripwire hook. (probably been mentioned before)
A chest-boat would be cool too. I can envision a chain of container-ships making a long run back home full of ore...

Recipe could be a boat in the middle, iron ignots on the bottom three rows, and the two sides.
how about further upgrading it to be a second block long, so you can have a chest behind you, maybe add a sail for a little extra speed. I think these new boats being upgradable things would be awesome.
While on subject, can we use leads to attach our boats to our peirs? You know. Like in real life

Not even an iron boat, but a reinforced one, like with one that has iron around the outer edges.
...Or just bring the stronger ones from the PC to us.
