After seeing some recent threads in the suggestion forum here regarding items such as chairs so that we can sit down in our world, It occurred to me that we already can do that in minecraft. When you play as the drunken Santa skin, one of the features of the skin is that your character will sit down with his legs stretched out when you idle for just a few minutes.
Now the thing I am wondering is, why can't the other skins do that? I mean, its not exactly player initiated as it only happens when you stand still doing nothing for a few minutes, but it would definitely bypass having to create new items such as chairs and furniture. Plus it is a feature technically already in the game, so I would think that this wouldn't be to hard for 4J to add to the rest of the skins.
Feel free to post your thoughts about adding this feature to every skin in minecraft.
I would argue that a series of small subtle seemingly inconsequential changes definitely improves the overall game experience... take for example:
Clouds
Moving Clouds
Sun
Moon
Phases of the moom
Celestial movement (sun and moon rising and setting)
dusk
dawn
different colored blocks of the same material
different material blocks
sitting in a minecart or boat (instead of just standing)
minecarts turning facing as they went around corners
boats turning facing to reflect steering (they could just path through the water at odd angles)
multiple color/patterned horses and sheep
falling blocks (like sand/gravel)
redstone animation
etc.
Many of these aspects are relatively inconsequential in and of themselves when considered individually, but the whole of them brought together in the game definitely enhances the overall game experience. you might say to yourself that you could do without one or 2 of the above on the list and be fine... now imagine what the game would be like if everything on this list was not included. The game would feel unfinished and even kind of overly simplistic.
Not sure how this one would actually work, maybe another hotkey that isn't used... That is all I can think of if this were pc, but on xbox(or any console for that matter) I really wouldn't know which button or combination of buttons could be used, since each seem to have already a purpose.
This might be a small suggestion, and I am on the fence about it, but simple enough to consider.
Personally I would rather be able to crawl before I even consider sitting, but that is not what this suggestion is about.
The notion of adding furniture to enable this makes it much much more simple though. Really it would be like a boat or something like that, just you don't move. We don't have knees far as I know on the models. That truly wouldn't matter, but at least the concept would be ok. To right click into a chair, couch, etc.. and to get out right click again maybe. Right click is equal to the use trigger button in this case, assuming you have that controller layout used, or default.
Anyway I think it would be an ok idea, just more interested in seeing other things to make it; even if this is decent enough to get in, or well semi-feasible. The furniture would need to be made for this to happen, else figuring out which button to use, or combo there of.

I would like to see this, and be it with chairs or just sitting on the ground, I think one thing should also happen.
as far as I understand, we constantly are loosing hunger, albeit very slowly. If I afk long enough I should starve. (If that's not the case then it should be imo). Sitting is more relaxed then standing, and this should be reflected by halving the hunger loss time.
To work within the current framework of the game design.. the 'chair' object would have to be a distinct object with the ability to 'enter' and 'exit' it to simulate sitting in a similar fashion as is done for a minecart or a boat. so sitting on the ground would not likely be added as that would not likely be incorporated as a special feature of 'the ground' to enable that ability, and would require special character side programming to allow for the (like crouching), but as Tamorr pointed out, we are seriously running out of available options on the controller to allow for different modes like standing, crouching, running, walking, creeping, sitting, ducking, crawling, etc.
I'm ok with the idea of reduced (or even halted) hunger progression while sitting, (this could enable really busy people to remain logged in but afk for extended periods of time without impacting other players... but then, if they aren't hosting the game, they would be better to just log out until they can play again.
I like the idea of the chair... and maybe even a 'couch/bench' version that might be automatic when 2 chairs are placed immediately adjacent to each other. I also like the idea of the single chair to be place-able at any angle (like a MOB head), but not be able to move from its block space without being picked up and placed back down on another block by the player.

Why do people think its so important to sit? It won't really improve the game unless you want to look different.
^^^^ Click it! You know you want to...
