4J seems to be having a hard enough time just porting the game to the various consoles, I don't see them adding entirely new things (and I would be a little afraid of the outcome if they did).
What they have done in the past that has been their original work has been reasonably well done... e.g. the changes made to the End, the initial crafting interface. The game does struggle with the limited capacity of the Xbox 360 and lag has always been a perpetual issue... but keep in mind that way back in 2011 when they first introduced the Xbox 360 Edition of Minecraft at, I believe, E3, they clearly stated that they had quite a struggle just getting the game up to 60 FPS (having just succeeded just before that event...after a year of development). I also remember that a lot of people at that time were saying that 60 FPS wasn't necessary; that they should have pushed the development through faster and settled for a lower frame rate. Can you imagine the difficulties we'd be having now if 4J hadn't been successful in getting the game to run at those rates initially?
Also, I've heard heavy criticism about Mojang's programming of the game in Java almost from the day I first became aware that Minecraft existed. I have a couple of programmers in the family who have played PC Minecraft in the past and both have said that the game could have been programmed initially in a much better way. A lot of the bugs we wind up reporting are iterations of bugs that occurred on the PC... so, perhaps it is poor initial source code that's causing a lot of the issues... and it's doubtful that anyone is willing to go back and reprogram everything from the beginning now. There would just not be enough profit in that.
Do keep in mind, 4J said they would mimic mojang a product to a certain spot, THEN they would branch off and do something new.
i think we are still following the PC for now.
I wouldn't exactly call being contracted by Mojang to port their product onto another device as "mimicking" the product. You make it sound as though they are doing an unauthorized knockoff, which isn't the case.
I also believe they said that they wanted to take the Xbox Edition in its own direction eventually... but I don't think they ever confirmed whether Mojang agreed to allow it. Also, I believe they never indicated how different they were considering... i.e. they may have just been referring to the changes they made to the End (which were released shortly after 4J made the statement about hoping to take MCXBLA in its own direction.
However, we do agree... I think the basic plan is to still follow the PC Edition as much as possible... and since chairs have not yet been added to the PC, I also agree that it is unlikely they will be added to the Xbox anytime soon.
the function of paintings imo aside from decoration, is to hide things.
I'm assuming that you're referring to having "secret doors" right?
Yeah... ehh, that's not really a "function" of paintings... it's just something that occurs. Because paintings lack a collision-mask you can walk right through them. So savvy types realized this can be used to hide openings.
I think you still need to place signs within the doorway to prevent the painting from popping off... or was this changed recently?

I think the only other change they made to the actual game (ie - not skin or texture packs) is having Blaze drop glowstone dust. I honestly can't recall if there has been anything else.
It sure is a shame that some suggestions haven't been added... there were some really good ones. Makes you wonder what that sub-forum is for. Placation?

I do think they were being honest about wanting to take the Xbox Edition in its own direction. I personally think it was Mojang that wasn't overly keen on the idea... and things probably got even tougher was Microsoft took over Mojang.
I wasn't trying to say that it was unauthorized by using the word mimic. It was the best way I could think of to describe what I ment.
was mojang not happy with this? I never heard about that.
I'm speculating, of course. I don't have an inside track into Mojang's or 4J's boardroom.
As I said, I believe 4J indicated that they wanted to take the Xbox 360 Edition in its own direction and I think the statement also indicated that they were discussing it (presumably with Mojang)... then the issue just seemed to die on the vine... so PERHAPS Mojang killed it since it would make no sense for 4J to kill it after having stated that they wanted it. Additionally, 4J certainly would not have the right to unilaterally (on their own) take Mojang's game and change it. As creator of the game, Mojang would have to agree to any changes. Although I don't believe Mojang has ever said that they opposed the idea of 4J programming their own exclusive content into the game... I don't think they have ever said they supported it either.
As is often the case on these forums, it was the people here who took the statement by 4J as a definite commitment and I don't think that was ever really the case.

I.... don't think so...
I mean, Mojang doesn't give a hoot about the countless MODS for their game. It seems off-base for them to then say to 4J, "Um, No! No, you can't just go and start changing things." Dinnerbone even commented on how the console Dragon was better and is working on an update to make the PC dragon more like it.
I think, first of all, 4J had a lot of stuff dumped on their plate when they picked-up additional platforms. Secondly, the "suggestion" to keep added whatever new feature the PC had just gotten greatly overshadows the support for any one, individual original idea. (I remember when PC had just added horses, there was a vast influx of one-time posters saying "add horses." Now no one seems to care about them. Everyone's clambering about the Ocean temples now. *sigh* But I digress......)
I don't think the decision to refrain from "going its own way" is the result of any backroom boardroom deal. I think 4J is just having a hard enough time translating code for 5 different platforms, nevermind writing their own.
Still, it is a shame console doesn't have at least ONE thing it can call its own...
As a proponent for aesthetics, I support the idea of chairs. I like some of the propositions, especially making them functional (in that you character can 'sit' on them) and maybe have a limited ability to scoot them closer to a 'table', or something.
Different materials could generate different types of chairs, all the way to golden thrones. Colored wool could be added in some cases to add a splash of colored 'cushioning'.
Here's a thought, though, what about making their orientation a bit move free-style (like skull placement) so that they are not strictly bound to the 4 cardinal directions.
