I wanna go back on topic to point out what everyone else missed. You don't need a needle full of DNA in order to make eggs. You need a mommy and a daddy monster who love each other very much.....and then.....

Don't get me wrong, I have a few ideas where I would love to have spawn eggs in survival (i play my world "true" and could hold murder trials or something wher the guilty are forced into a pit and have ----- thrown on them)
but I feel like this is one of those thing where 4J already has a direction they want for it. We either will or will not get it, and nothing anyone says is going to change that.
Now ow for the sponge.... THAT should be put into survival, along with returning its ability to remove water.

I don't buy that theory... the problem I have is that a black hole is a really small entity when compared on a stellar, galactic, or universal scale (most with an event horizon diameter of less than 20 miles except for the super massive black holes at the center of each galaxy that helps to stabilize galactic orbits...but even those are small by comparison), and compared to the amount of mass that goes through a black hole over time (although massive by human standards) is really insignificant from a universal (or even a galactic) perspective.
I just don't see a black hole sucking in enough matter and energy to create a comparable universe on the other side.

Well, last I understood, when sponges were added back in the game, the only place they naturally generate is in the ocean monument as a wet sponge, and an elder guardian drops 1 when killed. The wiki doesnt say anything about them generating elsewhere.

Actually... I'm going to throw my hat in on the side of a 'pro' on this one... so long as there is a 1-for-1 balance.
First off, I hate the idea of the syringe to get a blood sample and DNA and for the same reasons that Phoenix pointed out. So let's look at how this could be accomplished within the current mechanics of the game that would be relatively fair to the game parameters.
Let's look at the splash potion mechanics. Let's say there is something like a potion of regression that has a random chance to either heal a MOB, de-age a mob (if possible, ie villager to baby villager, or zombie to baby zombie), or revert it to a spawn egg.
This way there is some risk involved in capturing the MOB in the first place, and there is a 1-for-1 capture rate in that you can only capture what has spawned in the game (you can't just make duplicates of various MOB's, or keep one MOB captive while you clone them over and over).
Some MOB's (especially boss MOB's) may not be able to be put into spawn eggs (such as the Wither or the Ender Dragon).
This. It would be nice to have a potion that could turn an existing mob into an egg simply for easy transport. Maybe it could work similarly to the zombie villager cure. Hit them with a potion of weakness, then with a new "Golden egg" (crafted like a golden apple but with an egg), have to option to "capture" said mob. The golden egg would then turn into the spawn egg of the mob captured.

Changing what mob a mob spawner generates sounds more suitable to an adventure mode map and not a purely survival game... and once you put the world into creative mode or adventure mode, there is nothing stopping the host from doing whatever in the world (including stuffing several chests full of spawn eggs) and then putting it back into survival mode for players to play in. The ONLY permanent consequence is the disabling of the leaderboards and achievements... both of which, in principle, should not be active if the player is able to change the spawners and/or bring in spawn eggs since that could be easily abused to boost the leaderboards. What needs to change is not what is and is not available in pure survival mode... what needs to change are peoples' attitudes about playing survival in a world that has already been put in creative mode. Creative (and now adventure) modes are the tools this game provides for "game" creators... people should feel free to use them for that purpose. A "game" created by a player, however, is different than the game developer's survival game and should not be eligible for the leaderboards (which are there to compile comparative stats on how players play the survival game as created by the developer).
Why isn't this thread dead yet...? It's pretty clear that this will never be introduced into the game, and barely anyone supports it because it disrupts the fundamental purpose of having a survival mode. Besides that, we literally don't need it at all. Hostile mobs can be farmed from spawners and natural spawning grounds, and all passive mobs - villagers included - can be bred together with total control.
A)Loot. By your logic, if theres not enough mobs of one type, too bad. even if your life depends on it.
B)Its not just for the xp.
C)If theres too many mobs of another type, then you cant use their loot for anything (cough cough spiders cough cough).
You do realize this isnt only to blow peoples stuff up, dont you? Theres more reasons then just to troll people. We need gunpowder? Too bad! No creepers around! We need arrows? Too bad! Skeletons aren't dropping any? Too bad!

You don't need a spawner cage (or spawn eggs) to farm hostile mobs in the overworld in survival. Endermen in the overworld can be harvested in sufficient quantity just by "eyeballing" them in a desert or plain at night. Wolves and horses and cats are all subject to a small overall world cap limit... so having spawn eggs in survival won't increase their numbers any... you'll just be throwing spawn eggs that break into nothing.
It's really you who needs to open your mind to see the means you have of acquiring what you want other than demanding that the developer change the game specifically to suit you. As stated previously, you can already put spawn eggs into survival mode... all you need to do is go first into creative mode, stock up, save, and then reload the game in survival mode. (oh, but the leaderboards?... Big deal, they're hacked;... and achievements?... most people have them all within a few hours of starting the game anyways). If you don't want to use the tools the developer has already provided for you, don't (that's your privilege)... but why then demand that they make more and more ways to essentially do the same thing? That goes for most other helpful mobs as well. What if we run out of them? What if there's only one to be found? There's no way to 'farm' them then now, is there?

I mentioned this before...
Survival is a particular game mode meant to provide a particular "flavor" or style of play. Adding spawn eggs to Survival breaks that style.
While I'm in favor of having the ability to add and customize spawner cages to the game, this is not appropriate for pure Survival mode.

How about a sword with silk touch? A 1 in 50 chance the dead mob will spawn an egg.
