Immediately my mind went to 'how to handle celestial bodies/mechanics' when reading this suggestion.
The Overworld should be visible in the Moon sky at the same times that the Moon is visible int he Overworld (perhaps with opposite traversals in that in the Qverworld, the moon traverses from rising in the east to setting in the west. This could be reversed while on the moon where the Overworld traverses from rising in the West and setting in the East.
The Overworld could effectively be replicated by a constantly updated Overworld map that traverses the sky.
The Sun in the sky could not be on the same day/night cycle as the Overworld, but would follow the phases of the moon itself, providing for much longer days/nights.

However, I can't say that I can support an idea of this magnitude without a LOT more detail and thought put into it... Ok, it is a suggestion to implement a way to the moon... now sell me on why this would be a good idea to add to the game. What would I find there? What challenges would I be facing? What is my risk/reward ... what will I find in new adventure/items/blocks/etc? What kind of mechanics would I encounter? {Falling at 1/8th the rate? Jumping 8 times the distance? Atmosphere/Air/Clouds? Celestial mechanics, ie. stars, Overworld, Sun, etc.? Size/dimensions (X/Y/Z Ranges)? etc.}

There could be an alien settlement on the moon. There could be mobs that are unique only to the lunar biome. There could be ancient alien ruins under the lunar surface. A new block/item that you could find would be moon stone. I can't think of anything else beyond what I've just listed.
But seriously, this needs more information.

I like the idea. Support.
