Before anyone says anything, YES, I've searched for a topic like this. Nothing.
I would really love to see a zombie mode in the console versions. I'm not just talking about the Xbox, but for all consoles, as to not single one out. It would be possible if there was an All Consoles thread.
Anyway, I would really enjoy it if the game had a zombie apocalypse mode that can be accessed before you load a world. In the "world options" menu, you could decide if you wanted a normal experience [mobs], or if you wanted a world inhabited by zombies. You could decide if they came out during the day, night, or were out all the time, leaving them unaffected by the sun/moon. You could decide if they were at their normal speed or at the speed of a mini-zombie, so you could either deal with the walking dead or the running dead, running as fast as you can sprint, making jump-sprints vital.
You could also decide how powerful they were, if you wanted them to cause little to almost no harm at all, normal damage, or if they killed you in 1-2 hits; maybe even decide if they could damage blocks, windows, or both, to add a bit more of a challenge.
But there would also be options that would affect what happens to villagers when zombies are encountered. For being attacked, they could either die after being attacked, zombify as in vanilla, or instantly zombify. However, if a zombie were to attack a villager and the zombie were to be killed before they kill the villager, the villager is now infected and will eventually turn. With options, you could prolong or shorten the infection time. 10-30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 1 ingame day, 2 ingame days, or instant---making trying to save a villager pointless. You would have to keep that villager away from the rest.
This would be a fun mode to play on if you were on, for example, a zombie survival map you risked your profile to download and play.
Of course, there would be problems if you had an area walled off and zombies kept spawning inside it, but a combat to that would be some kind of safety perimeter block that would be set in the world; hardly noticeable, if at all, but can also be used as decoration. When this is placed down, zombies will not spawn in that perimeter [like a bed or torch], which is essentially 5x5 blocks. It would keep villagers and you safe. Of course, it can be possible to craft one, but the requirements would need to be rare and valuable so crafting one isn't easy.
However, if a zombie gets into your home, or enters a safe zone [like a village], the zombies will also go for the safety blocks. By destroying them, it eliminates the safety of that area. If all blocks are destroyed, that area is extremely vulnerable and can easily be taken out by zombies. This would apply to both this mode and vanilla, seeing as how other monsters don't attack villagers.
I personally think this should be added to the console versions of the game. The PC players can easily access it with mods and maps, but console players are restricted to only the console features. It would be fun to have a new kind of experience in the console version, rather than the same old, same old. I love it when there's a challenge, and honestly, zombies can deliver at times. i think it would give us better challenges, as well to challenge each other to see how we would survive in a Walking Dead, I Am Legend, or 28 Days Later type of world.
For example, you choose the options for a 28 Days Later type of apocalypse. You would set the Zombie damage to 2-3 hits, super fast Zombies [able to sprint as fast as you], a minimal/medium Zombie population, and Zombies can break windows and doors.
Another example would be a Walking Dead type, with slow zombies, 2-3 hits for damage, medium-large population density, and with zombies breaking doors and windows, along with fences if enough zombies are around.
Or you just downloaded a map based off The Last of Us and wanted blind, mixed [fast and slow] zombies that are able to break doors and windows and can infect villagers in two game-days.
Or maybe you want to make zombies nearly impossible to kill, extremely fast, able to break doors, windows, AND blocks, and having a large population with them, with them able to kill you instantly. Try that for a challenge.
But maybe you just want to create a map to test out the features and observe how long the exceeded amount of villagers survive against a super fast, super strong, and super powerful Zombie.
I do enjoy Vanilla, but surviving in a Zombie Apocalypse is just as fun. I think adding a ZA Mode would be not only be interesting [seeing what options we would mix up to harden/soften the challenge], but fun as well. I am hoping that soon, we can be able to experience this.
Oh, and this mode should be free, as well. I still don't understand why we have to pay for texture packs and skins, but PC players don't. Thanks, Microsoft.
I already predict that no one will support this, as usual with all my ideas. Negative, but true.
well also pc because only some people can update and cant get mods. (like my friend ) also i recommend adding a vote system and if it reces 1500 like or etc microsoft and mojang will have to add it.
Well even if they don't add a mode option for this its actually pretty doable, but would require one to first load the world in creative, and setup some command blocks, wouldn't be that difficult to do either. Sadly once creative mode has been used, achievements for that world are null and void. Back in 1.6 or so on the PC I did something very similar, only i created a large city where the users had to get from point a, to point b. Some areas were safe, others not so much, and even others were safe for awhile with normal villagers running around, but in time they too turned to zombies and thus turned on the players. I'm not sure what command our command blocks will support when they do arrive, but I'm pretty sure they will allow setting variables on mobs, creating mobs, ect, which would totally enable what you want to do.
I know its not exactly what your looking for but its pretty damn close, and better then nothing, yours would actually be much easier to do, rather then having to create an entire city with pitfalls and what not your just pretty much controlling mobs at or near a player.
I'm normally against anything that would skew the core game away from the intended genre as this suggestion suggests. But I can't deny the Zombie craze that seems to be more infectious that the Zombie-ism disease itself...
I can say that I would support something like this if you could similarly toggle the mode for any of the Minecraft hostile MOB's:

Negative, but false.
I support this.Nerd Panda approves.
I'm Canadian, and there is no igloos around. Or snow. Or polar bears. Or moose because I live in a city, but there are moose in the country.

I think that'd be cool.
