I had an idea for the End that I would like to share with you guys. What would you guys think about a smaller baby type version of the ender dragon spawning in the end, but only once the ender dragon is defeated? Once you defeat the ender dragon, they will not spawn until you leave the end and return. The game would only spawn a handful of baby dragons so as to not cut into the endermen spawn that much. The baby dragon would be able to fly similar to the ender dragon, however it can only attack with melee by landing on the ground and hitting the player. The baby dragon would also be able to fly away during a fight in order to escape you, so a bow along with a sword may be required to kill. I will let you guys think of the health this mob will have and the damage it can inflict as I am not an expert in that area.
My thinking behind this idea was that the ender dragon simply feels like an overpowered mob that was not much of a challenge to beat, and in reality did not give you much of anything besides a trophy (which I like). Being a special mob, I felt that defeating the dragon should at least give you the ability to access new things, giving the challenge more of a purpose. So nevertheless I came up with the baby dragons under the idea that they would drop items that are hard to get or cannot be obtained any other way in survival.
I will let you guys think of possible items if you wish, but some of the items I was thinking was maybe the occasional mob egg being the primary benefit.
An intriguing idea... but I, for one, would rather see this added to the end before the Ender Dragon was killed.
Maybe make them neutral MOBs, like endermen and zombie pigmen, but give them the same hostility patterns for both, will aggro if you stare at them and pack mentality will aggro if any others in range aggro or are attacked.
They could typically fly at roughly head height (1 block off the ground, 1 block tall and 3 block long, with a 3 block wide wingspan), or if they need to fit into a tighter space, they could fold their wings (changing their MOB ID), landing they can collapse their body width to 1 block wide to fit through smaller holes and doorways.
I sort of like the idea of a chance of random treasure from a dragon: gold, emerald, diamond, lapis, weapons, armor, etc.
I also like the idea of some sort of ranged attack from them as well... like a blaze Attack, but close range claws and teeth could still do more DPS from rending attacks.

Hmm.. I kinda disagree with this.
It should be like the Enderdragon.
But perhaps it just doesn't do much damage, and the worst it'll do is the equivalent to being hit with a weaker arrow from a skeleton. With low to medium accuracy, etc.
But the way your idea is.. I don't support that. Just seems unnecessary. It'd be okay relatively if they came at the same time as the Enderdragon as opposed to after.. that'd just be stupid to do it after.

Which part?
The part of it happening after, and them being melee attackers.
