Recently, I went on a nice boating trip through my world. It was very nice, and I found that a river flowed right next to all of my villages. I would really like to use boats more often for travel, but there's one huge problem that I have. You guessed it, boats break too easily. So I suggest a new mud block.
Mud blocks would be found in patches in and on the side of rivers and oceans. They could be collected via shovel or hand, and placed like any other blocks. These blocks would have properties similar to that of soul sand: They're shorter than normal blocks, will slow the players movement, and most important, will prevent boats from breaking. When a boat hit a mud block (Either by touching it's side or by going over the op of it) the boat would immediately stop moving, and would not break. Additionally, mud could be crafted by combining dirt and clay in a 2x2 pattern. The recipe would result in 4 mud blocks.
Mud could also be used to craft clay, by combining mud and sand in a 2x2 pattern, and would also craft 4 clay blocks.

That actually sounds like a neat idea, although I do wonder if they'll act like snow blocks, in that they will have covers & full blocks for them. I also wonder if they'll be the BOP styled mud blocks combined with your idea. Full Support!

I like this suggestion.
But more importantly.. I just wish they'd fix the damn boats in the meantime... I've never once use a canoe in real life, and went onto shore at 2 km/h and have my boat shatter into pieces and have me fall into the river.
I hate to refer to realism in this game once again, because I hate whne others do.. But this is just plain common sense really. A boat would never do that.

That is true, and I feel that, at the least, when a boat breaks, it should break into a boat. My other issue is steering the boats, so how about oars (A future Pocked edition feature). If you use an oar, steering the boat becomes much more precise.
I thought they actually fixed the boat breaking thing. I used boats before but found them tedious and broke to easily, then in an update i swear it said they fixed the problem. With lily pads that is, boats didn't break coming into contact, the lily pad broke instead. Not sure about other things as I still hardly use boats, you just have to be careful I believe and show down when coming ashore.

They've made the baits a lot less fragile, and don't break as much as they used, but it's still bad
If implemented, I think it should be a gravity affected block and fall like sand or gravel... maybe even slope toward any open faced sides (not totally enclosed) , causing a slight sliding effect to the open side to players standing on top of the mud block? Sort of like the current effects of flowing water near the source block (or as if flowing from the source block).
Maybe be a block that pours/flows like a water/lava source block, but will fall if there is no block below it?

Bucket of mud sounds good, but if we chose to add a new liquid, as opposed to a new block, we would need to set some new properties:
Idea #2: Mub would be a new liquid in the game, collectable by bucket. It would have the physical properties of lava (A slow spread, slows player movement, cannot form infinite sources) Unlike lava, mud and water would not create a block when the two touched, and could exist as two liquids side by side. On the other hand, when mud hit lava, the mud that hit lava would turn to dirt. Just like in the first idea, mud would generate on the bottoms and shores of any body of water, and would generate anywhere in a swamp (Including the middles of islands and bodies of water). Boats could travel slowly through mud, making it a very useful way to prevent boats from breaking on the sides of rivers. The downside to this idea is that there would no longer be a crafting repipe for mud or clay.

Huh, I like that actually.
What if though, the recipe for a bucket of mud, you could have mud blocks, and when combined with a bucket of water (lose the bucket in the process as well?) it becomes a bucket of mud.
And flows like lava as you said?

Basically, yes

Hmm... Bucket of mud? Lol

I scored 100% on the Minecraft Trivia Quiz. How much do you know about Minecraft?Huh, I like that actually.
