I have seen Silent Hill texture packs for the PC version and I thought it'd be cool if there was a Silent Hill texture pack for the Xbox 360.
Minecraft can be scary enough as it is with creepers lurking around every corner. This skin would appeal to more horror enthusiastic minecrafters though and add a sort of grimness to the game.
I didn't just make this thread to ask for a texture pack, on the contrary, I have had some ideas for it.
First, usually in minecraft there are storms and thunderstorms. They act a bit like the darkness in Silent Hill. Simply change regular storms to a sort of ash rain with light fog and thunderstorms into a very thick, perhaps crimson tinted fog. Creatures would spawn in this fog and the fear of seeing something (Even blocky) in the fog would definetly startle some players.
Second, Nighttime. In itself it is pretty creepy, but what if textures change when night comes around. Thats right, 2 texture variations in the game. Basically everything during the day would look different at night. Sunset and sunrise wouldn't exist, instead the screen would darken, the textures would switch and when the screen brightened again, the day or night textures would be in their place.
Example: You have a dark wooden textured house and night is coming. Your screen goes black (But you can still see your toolbar, etc.) then it fades back in. Your nice little dark wood cottage now has a fleshy/blood texture to it. Even as little pixels this sets a dark mood for the night.
Third and lastly, creature textures. Throughout silent hill movies a variety of creatures of the dark are shown as well as in the games. The zombie could be reskinned as Pyramidhead or some other creature. The skeletons could be the chestspewers that spit acid out of their chest (In this case their bows would technically be their chests)
I would like for this texture idea to become a reality (It'd be hard to do, but neat) but I am not asking. I am just suggesting that it might appeal to a bigger audience of horror fans (and silent hill fans) Also the grim and gritty textures that could be made would make some excellent looking castles and houses, if a bit creepy especially at night.
Since this is not just a Texture Pack... I'm sure you realize that this suggestion would require a number of changes to how the core game works on the on the programmatic level:
The change to weather effects seems more than just a texture change here. This seems like it might be relatively easy to adjust fog levels and ambient lighting effects, but would require the addition of some outside control granted to something like a texture pack...only a little more (Maybe a "Texture Pack+").
This would require 2 skins to be used for MOB's and 2 sets of textures for blocks in game and have it time sensitive in the game, which again would require some back end changes to allow for this to work. The sun and moon might be able to be hidden by just using a transparent skin...
This would mostly be a skin update... however to make it seem like acid was coming from the chest, some MOB animations might have to be altered somewhat.

It would be a Mash Up Pack... Not that I"m trying to be overly technical.
I like the idea of it being two variations. Because just like Silent Hill, like you said.. it has two variations. During the day it's foggy, etc... and at night, everything is rusty, and quite scary.
I like this idea, it could work.
