imagine this.. ur in a cave and a zombie cums outta no were. u have a wooden sword as ur only wepon and its los all durability. all u have is a torch, and u hit him twice and th second hit ur lucky enuf to set him on fire. how cool and helpfull wood that be. mainly astetics but it wood look really cool
well that wood kind of suck. cuz wut 9if its ur last torch. i think it shoulld just de craft so u can craft it again
Then... don't hit it with your torch... Use a real weapon instead, or punch...since you are doing about the same amount of damage as you would be with a torch anyway (except for that 1 in 40 or 50 chance of setting it on fire)
You want a reliable way to set them on fire? use flint and steel on them.
Sorry, if you are SETTING the MOB on FIRE, it should cost you something... in this case, the cost is 1 torch.
im talk9ing newbie sitiation. u dont have an empty hand in ur hop bar and ur sord is about to brake or u just flip out and start hitting him. and u dont have flint and steel becus u just started. i understand ur point of veiw but still, its not like im asking 4 a new boss, its just a little astetics.

Newbies will learn 2 lessons if that happens:
1: You can set MOB's on fire by hitting them with torches
2: You will loose your torch in the process
Everyone was new once, I'd rather not have the fire effect added at all if there is no cost to using it like there is with everything else (with the only one exception that I can think of in using a bucket of lava as a weapon).
Let's make this simple: You have my Support if the torch is used up in the process of igniting the other MOB on fire, you don't have it if it isn't used up in the process. I doubt very highly that you are going to change my mind on that point.
kk wil do. but keep in nmind, yhe chance is 1 in 35 ( im gonna gessthat number, its almost as rare as it is to get a wither skeliton skull) so it wont be super op.
I come back for one day and my understanding of the English language is brutally assaulted...
Anyhow...flint and steel is not difficult to come by on even the first day and does the job of burning just fine. It's also not like wood or stone is hard to come by for a sword....

I'd be okay with it.
Since the odds of lighting a mob on fire are pretty low anyway.. I don't see it's totally needed to sacrifice a torch in the process.
I can understand the need to just simply have other things in place as opposed to a torch to light stuff on fire.. But if it's a 1/50 chance of lighting something on fire if you hit it with something.. I'd say just the odds of it lighting something on fire to begin with sort of balances itself out.
After thinking about it, I've my mind on this idea. It would make fire aspect obsolete,
Not really.
Fire aspect happens 100% of the time you hit something with it. This is 2%.
I mean if someone wants to be stupid enough to hit a tree that many times for that 2% chance to light it on fire instead of using a flint and steel, be their guest lol.

Oh, right. I thought, for a little bit, that this would happen everytime. Don't know why I went braindead like that. Yeah, I give my support again.
yay. even though this still might not be implemented, it is still fun to dream. also many of you don't support because you could just use a sword or flint and steel, but this is like those times when your going through a cave and placing torches to light it up, and a mob cums outta nowhere(oops I did it again but im too lazy to fix it) and you freak out, especially if its a creeper, and you just start hitting it with something in your hand. also it just makes sence because a torch is a stick with fire on its tip and if I hit someone in real life with a torch, they gonna be on fire.

If you hold the torch to them. The fire needs to catch. Swinging it on a stick isn't the best way to get things to catch. I'm not saying it woulnt catch, I'm just saying it's not a 100% chance thing.
Not like torches are that hard to get though.... But I'll support your idea

I'm sorely tempted to make a joke about this^ But it might be premature

Besides, my problem is that Creepers come out of nowhere

I've seen things get lit on fire for a solid 30 seconds almost on fire, they sit there ticking away and when the fire goes out they're STILL not dead.
How OP is that? Lol
