Not even if it required crafting a new item by surrounding a block of obsidian with 8 diamond blocks to get just one "obsidinium" or whatever that is stronger than anything else in the game. The game isn't that difficult and diamond armor is pretty overpowered as it is. I play the game on Hard with just diamond feather falling boots. If you need something stronger than a full diamond suit, I need to say it... you suck at the game.

I don't need a whole new tier of armor, just a sword that does equal damage to players regardless of the armor that they wear
I'd advocate a meteorite tier of armour and weapons. It'll be even more rarer than emerald - only generating on certain maps in the form of a crater. You'd need a diamond pickaxe to mine the stuff (much like obsidian) and would be rather costly to enchant (level 30+ plus for lvl one of any enchantment) to prevent it from being too overpowered.
But it won't happen. Diamond's the best of the best on console. Don't see this happening.
Would you say no to obsidian being another tier for tools and weapons?
As long as Diamond remains as the top tier... I wouldn't mind it so much for aesthetic reasons.
Actually... with how common and easy to get obsidian is compared to iron... I might argue that iron should be better overall, but I can hear the arguments against it too..."obsidian is harder to mine so it should have higher damage reduction", etc.
I'm actually ok, with it being on par with iron armor in stats (maybe a little better protection but less durability). But I might consider some 'effects' build into it, like since obsidian is a volcanic glass, maybe it would do additional damage to the player if it breaks while they are wearing it.
I'd be ok with Obsidian tools too. Have them be a tier between Iron and Diamond. Or make them the same durability as diamond but without as much enchantability, lacking things like fortune and silk-touch. I'm ok with obsidian tools mining the same things as stone tools as well. Meaning you couldn't mine gold, diamonds, and redstone with them. Seems like an even trade-off to me.
Period.
