I'm with Wood Block and Deskepticon, changing the texture of an Emerald to look like a Ruby is a meaningless task however adding the Ruby separately would be a good idea as long as it had a purpose.
I don't understand why they just can't, wait for it, COEXIST. I dunno, maybe each as their own kind of currency. Maybe two different tribes of villagers and each village belongs to one or the other and their architecture distinguishes them from a distance.

How about this: Desert villagers: They have a darker skin (A tan, from being in the sun) than the plains villagers. Desert villagers will only take Rubies as currency, and plains villagers will take emeralds. Curing a zombie villager will result in either villager, and breeding the two types will result in a baby which will have either of the two base skins.

Maybe if they did that.. if they ever implemented jungle villages.. (unless they have already.. I play in a world that's very old... so I don't know too much.. about the 'updatedness' vividly) they could have them look like 'aztecs' kinda.
Or you could go to the nether, mine the portal, die then come back and go there again.
I think that diamond is overpowered. You are basically a god if you have it. That is why I also kinda want weapons that damage equally regardless of what armor the opponent is wearing.

I still say no to the obsidian armor, but I could support a weapon^ that does that kind of damage. Maybe my lightning bolt suggestion from a while back.
Also, now that I think about it, we do have a weapon that does damage regardless of armor. Splash potions of poison and harming. The lightning bolt would be more fun though.
There should also be an option to keep it as an emerald or make it a ruby.
DONT CLICK ON THE SPOILER
OH NO!!! NOW YOU KNOW!!! :tnt::flintandsteel:

I was thinking the same... But.. In a way Redstone could be considered Ruby too though.

I wouldn't say better than diamond.. But.. I don't know.
I can agree to that.
But.. if you think about it Obsidian isn't hard to get. And it's not as good as diamond cause diamond breaks it.
All you'd need to do is find that one lava lake under ground and you have a huge supply of obsidian if you have a bucket of water.
And both emerald and obsidian are renewable and very easy to get/find.

Sure. The tools ought to be crafted with diamond instead of stick to give it some more rarity.
