Since the popularity of making texture packs and a custom map out of known movies and games has already been used in the xbox 360/ps3 versions of the game, why not just take it a step further to release dlc maps? at a low cost (ex. say 1$ for every 3 maps) people could purchase 4j made maps and these maps could be whatever 4j wanted (ex cops n robbers, hunger games, adventure map, or the walls.) this would help players with their multiplayer experience by giving them the opportunity to be the server and have people join theit lobby. They would Also have reasons to invite their friends to join along with them. i think this would be a better alternative then trying to create actual servers for the console editions of minecraft as it doesn't seem plausible yet.

yes but I keep hearing the reason there are no servers is the 7th gen consoles aren't capable of it. This would make the player the server without them having to try and download maps offline as well as give them time to figure out how/if 7th gen servers are possible.
I don't think your idea is going to accomplish what you think it will. Downloading a 4J-made map would not change how the multiplayer gaming works... it would still be only up to eight people from your friends list who could join the world. In order to have a central lobby where mix and matching could occur, they would still have to access a central server in some way. The difference being that, with the games that currently use the mix and match on the Xbox 360, the worlds cannot be altered by the players to the same degree as the worlds in Minecraft. For mix and match to occur using just a host's Xbox, the player's ability to alter (i.e. build and mine) the map would probably have to be disabled for the host's system to handle the necessary data transfers to and from the other players' consoles.
I think its a feasible idea, this could easily be accomplished. And yes, the people will complain, but they'll always find something to complain about. Support!
