Just sitting here at work cruising the forum reading Mineral Block's suggestion about Jungle Spiders and thought, what about Scorpions? I think they would be a good addition to Minecraft.
I can see this has already been mentioned in the PC section however I didn't really like their suggestion so thought I'd add my own.
Stat wise I'd say it would be close to a spider if not the same i.e Health and attack however I'd make it that Scorpions can only spawn in the desert and spiders can spawn anywhere but the desert.
Passive scorpions would roam around the desert during the day however unlike spiders they would roam in groups of 2 - 3.
Regarding the drops, I'm not too sure about this but I think their stinger could be dropped and be used to brew potions the same as spider eyes.
Are you suggesting Giant Scorpions (like about the size of normal spiders? 1 block tall, 2x2 blocks wide and long)? Or are you thinking something smaller, like the size of the proposed Jungle spider or the silverfish?
If smaller, what about the ability to hide in sand blocks (like the silverfish in stone, or the proposed jungle spider/snakes in leaf/grass/vine/plant blocks? However, I'm assuming you meant the larger variety since you mentioned a 'Scorpion Jockey' as an idea.
When it attacks, would it inflict a poison effect?
Should the stinger be more like a 'fermented spider eye' rather than the 'spider eye' for potion creation?

When it attacks, would it inflict a poison effect? Yes it would, I just forgot to mention one of the most important features hehe.
Should the stinger be more like a 'fermented spider eye' rather than the 'spider eye' for potion creation? My idea would have been to just craft a fermented stinger the same way as a spider eye but either way is fine.
Since the stinger is already toxic and the act of fermenting doesn't seem to fit well for an already poisonous stinger... I think just make it compatible with the fermented spider eye as a potion component...or just make it only useful for making potions of poison (as opposed to 'corrupting' potions as the fermented spider eye does).
Yeah I saw that image when I Googled "Minecraft Scorpions" but I think I'd prefer them to either be black or a sand like colour so that they can blend in the desert.
The "Mate" is always a dead give away then again so is the location underneath my picture ;).
Picture should be obvious.. But I catch myself saying it and I'm Canadian.
I also hear my English friends say that a lot too.

And I was going to say what Greg said before I saw what he said.. Was just going to say that if they were added... they should basically behave like silverfish.

And I'm American. By the way, Daft Punk is a French group.
So I do like the hiding in blocks idea. And there would be two variations of the scorpian, right? One small version, that hides in sand and sandstone (We would need new block variants). And then there would be a big one that spawns on the surface, which can have skeletons on its back? Sounds good to me. But if this is the case, I think that only a few of the other types of monsters should spawn in the desert, just to allow for more room for scorpians to spawn.

Well if Spiders don't have the ability to spawn in the desert that would be one less mob so scorpions could replace them for the night and during the day no other mobs spawn in the desert so that would be plenty of room for them to spawn unless of course camels were introduced but that's a different suggestion entirely hehe.

Or... if a Large Spider spawn occurs in a Desert biome, it could just be arbitrarily replaced by the Large Scorpion as the Desert Biome Spider spawn... less fuss regarding spawning mechanics, and accomplishes the same effect at the same time.

Great idea, essentially just a swap between Desert Spiders and Scorpions.

Most internet folk are.
And okay good to know.
And.. I don't know... I'm more inclined to just want the small scorpions. Unless it would basically be a 'spider of the day' the fights you during the day.

Additional bonus would be Scorpion Jockeys.
Let me know what you think.

Appreciate it mate.
