The throwing knife would be a new weapon, crafted from one stick and one material. They would do as much damage as an axe when held and when thrown, but with less knockback. The knife could be thrown fo up to 10 blocks, and could be picked up again. If the knife hit a monster or a player, it would hit and do damage, then fall to the ground. Only the thrwoer could pick it back up. Knives could also activate wooden buttons and pressure plates, knock down paintings, and cut tripwires, without setting off the trap. Finally, they could be enchanted like swords
Not sure I like the ability to cut a tripwire without triggering the trap... but that would make it somewhat unique from a short range arrow in functionality (which doesn't cut the tripwire, but does trigger it when hit...as I found out by trying to make a cross-fire tripwire arrow trap and ended up emptying out my dispensers because once the trap started firing, it became self-sustaining and kept triggering itself over and over again).
I'm ok with cutting the tripwire from a distance, but I feel it should still trigger the trap when cut this way.
The problem is 'only the thrower can pick it up' . I think any mob that can pick up weapons should be able to pick that up . (Players , and possibly in the future : Zombies , Z. Pigmen , Skeletons ) It's a fairly decent idea .
I missed that part, good eye. Yes, they should be like spent arrows littering the ground, able to be picked up by anyone with the ability to collect such weapons, and not tied specifically to any one player.

I'd simplify the suggestion.. it's like reading one long sentence. Just making me a little confused at times. Perhaps even point form would've been good.
In any case.. I like this. It'd be cool I think. Could either look like a Kunai throwing knife... or... similar to just something like a prison shank maybe.
Not everything creates lag. Shears can already cut string without it activating it. No lag at all, not even one delay.
Which is something I'd like. Not that it matters though. I could see those trip wires from a mile away... No problem to come up and cut them with a sword or soemthing.

No...they don't pickup arrows as it is... and why would they? It's not like they are going to run out of arrows...like ever.
Imagine more unnecessary information for the XBox 360 to actively track that serves only to increase lag in the game. *Dun dun duuuuuun*

Both gave me a broken link

DONT CLICK ON THE SPOILER
OH NO!!! NOW YOU KNOW!!! :tnt::flintandsteel:
How so? Swords and axes are very violent, but really, as long as there isn't blood, there are no problems.
(I just shook my head and walked away when I first read that... Glad that I wasn't the one to point out the obvious).
Bows are in essence the same thing though.
