What about a new block type that was a wedge shape; maybe 45 degree angle. I guess it could be the same look and profile as stairs but smooth and lets entities and blocks affected by gravity slide down them.
There would be thousands of implementations:
Mob traps, anti-griefing, item collection, transportation, and let's not forget the aesthetics. It would give so much more variation to the shapes for designing structures.
Crafting could be similar to stairs but obviously not the same; maybe missing a piece or adding one. What about incorporating a slime ball in there or something.
I'm on board 100%. There's so much I could do on my worlds with this. I'm guessing that these would also be able to be placed upside down like slabs and stairs. Maybe the crafting recipe could be the same as stairs only with the outer three blocks would be switched with stairs like this:
B=block (planks, quartz, ect.)
S=stair of corresponding block
I don't mind the idea of this, but it seems wrong to have triangular bits on anything in minecraft. Everything is square, not sure if this could happen just because.
That's a good point. Would it still look like Minecraft? I asked myself that question when 1.7 came out for PC. I thought "there's only suppose to be 8 biomes" (ocean, desert, plains, forest, jungle, taiga, swamps, and extreme hills). Now, there's so many it didn't feel like the same game anymore. But I guess it's cool. It's still Minecraft.
I support this idea as it would allow for more design variations without using stairs. I'm not sure about 45 degrees for an angle, as that's pretty steep. You may well be thinking "What other angle can we possibly have if it's a 1m^3 block?". Well instead of it being crafted as a block, it forms half slabs which can be stacked atop any other type of half slab.
SIDE NOTE: I still wish you could mix half slab variations together, such as a stone half slab directly on top of a sandstone half slab.
Maybe there could be two crafting recipes to support half slabs and blocks, so you have 45 degrees and 22.5 degrees just so that all bases are covered; I know there are people out there who could just as easily make use of 45 degrees blocks as well as a shallower angle.
And a must for this idea: like stairs, when two wedges join together at perpendicular angles, they should merge together perfectly to form a smooth incline, without an angled corner.
If you had read my original suggestion (via the link included above), you'd have seen that I had suggested to have 2 different grades of slopes as well.

What do you think?

I think it would be for every block type that can also be crafted into slabs and stairs.
That's the way I'd see it.
I'm of two minds about this suggestion. My builds would get more complex and detailed but it would change the feel of the game a whole lot.
I...I think I suggested that last year:

Great Idea!!!! WOOT!!! 100% support!!! +1 Up Vote for thinking like me. LOL

My bad then. I searched and it didn't come up with anything so I started this thread. But yeah.... you have a great idea!
