Alright, guys. This is my fourth and final suggestion that got me going onto the forums. Due to the complexity in the idea, it may have to be a feature exclusive to the next- gen consoles if 4j consider adding it. Also this may have been suggested before but certainly not in this fashion. Now, the idea I give you is: the marker.
The marker is not a crayola one that you doodle with. This is something else. The marker could be an invaluable tool for players going for a different feel to their world, whether it be a wilderness or metropolis. Unfortunately, that could go the same for griefers if a certain feature can be created for what it can produce. The marker's big purpose is to create vehicles.
Appearance: Its appearance is up for debate.
Recipe: To balance it out a bit, the marker would be built with a nether star and 8 iron bars. It would be crafted as a nether star surrounded by iron bars. This crafting recipe would yield four markers.
Use: To actually make a vehicle, you will need to first surround the dimensions of each section (meaning you have to do each section separately. Sections would be the cockpit, tires, ect) in markers (not meaning covering the entire thing up. I'll highlight more on this later on). Once this is done, you would have to go to the pause menu (in settings, maybe?), and there you would find the marker tab. First, you will be prompted on whether the object you are to manipulate is inside the "marked" dimensions or not (meaning whether you're including or excluding the border the markers make). For the markers, say if you object is in the shape of a cube, all you'd have to do is put a marker in each edge block of air surrounding the cube. If you were to us the border for highlighting, it would just be for if you're highlighting you object on the ground you wouldn't select any unwanted blocks.
Once all this is done, your vehicle will start to take shape. You will then be brung to a screen showing multiple different types of vehicles (plane, boat, ect). You then select the vehicle type that you are building. With this (I'll use truck for an example, starting with the wheels), you'll select the highlighted areas properties as wheels. Now when you activate the vehicle, those blocks will act as the wheels. Then you'll repeat the process until you have apart of the object used for each part of your new vehicle. Finally, to be able to activate and deactivate your vehicle, you'll need to select a lever to be your on/off switch. Note: the lever must be inside the vehicle that you designate as your cockpit.
Restrictions: Due to the complexity of this, I would recommend that 4j make it so that you can't interchange different parts of vehicles onto one vehicle (a. k. a. Not be able to have a truck with plane wings). If the idea goes off without any major problems, then I would recommend that that would be possible. Also, to make it easier on the game, the only part of the vehicle that can use air blocks as a major part of it would be the wheels, or not at all.
Controls: for controlling a vehicle, you first have to activate it via the lever mentioned earlier. Then, your controls change quite a bit. You can't move, jump, or attack. The thumbsticks will now be used to drive your vehicle. For all vehicles except the helicopter, hot air balloon, and plane, you can only move forward and back (helicopters and hot air balloons can move in any direction, and planes can only move forward). Clicking the left thumbstick will allow you to switch between first and third person view, and clicking (and holding) the right one will allow you to look around the cockpit. The left trigger will be used to activate a lever (you can have more than one lever in the cockpit, so you can connect it to dispensers and such using redstone).
Deactivation: To deactivate the vehicle, aim the cursor at your on/off lever and select it. The vehicle will stop moving and automatically to how it looked before (a. k. a. It will go completely horizontal and face the direction in which it was originally). When it's a flying vehicle, if in the air, it will NOT fall to the ground making it annoying for the driver to get down.
Crashing: All airborne vehicles can crash. If ANY part of the vehicle touches a solid block, it will blow up with the same particles as an exploding TNT or creeper, instantly killing the driver. Luckily, to stop griefing, it doesn't do any damage to the environment or mobs, including other players. When boats and ground vehicles come into contact with a solid block, they just stop moving.
With markers in Minecraft, it would bring a whole new world of creativity to the game, not to mention that it would create quite the impression for 4j if the were able to accomplish such a feat. It could also create a whole new world for exploration in the game.
As always, please leave your thoughts on the idea and on how the idea could be made better (or simpler so 4j could be able to accomplish it).
Yeah, this is the simplest way I could make it. I should've used spoilers to make the info more compact. Visually, it's a lot simpler. My idea for this is that it would work well in more developed worlds and in machinimas. Also who wouldn't want to fly across the sky in an airplane, dual on the sea with two large moving battleships, or race across the desert in large jeeps. The point is, while is very complex (and possibly tedious), it would be a fun means of transportation (for both mobs and items, as you could use chests in the design) and can open a new world of creativity for builders and adventurers alike, not to mention that it would be endgame content, since you'll have to defeat the wither (possibly more than once) to obtain it (I know it's not on the consoles yet but it's confirmed that it will be). Again, sorry for the complexity and the lots of text. I was trying to be very thorough and cover every possible aspect.
