Now I know that to most of you this is old news, but I was thinking that if the book and quill had restrictions, maybe it would be released to the console editions of Minecraft. For example, I am sure you know that placing too many signs is not good for the Xbox 360 to say the least. Which means having books would wreck the Xbox 360,but as a correction, restrictions could be placed as to how many books are allowed per world (My guess would be around 1ยท # of player capacity.),and how many characters per book.( I would say around 120-300 characters.)I would love to hear your ideas for restrictions for the book and quill and written books that, like mine, have a very slim chance of helping, but they are worth a shot!

I'm not that good with knowledge of technology so forgive me if the following question makes me seem like a complete idiot. You can use a usb keyboard with the Xbox 360? I think I have one of those somewhere....hmm.
I don't think having a lot of written books would affect the way the game runs too much. Signs and item frames cause lag in general, because the system has to process the item in the frames, the way they are shaped, and their texture. Same goes for signs, except instead of the item in them they have text. The words inside of a written book are not processed until the book is opened.
You can use a ChatPad on 360 which is infinitely better than a keyboard. If they do add book & quill, maybe it will convince Microsoft to finally make one for the Xbox One because SmartGlass is terrible for typing.

Well let's go through the process shall we? First you start writing the book and add let's say around 5000 letters , the part of the Xbox that freezes up is the text filtering and that would eventually grind your Xbox to a halt.
with you there one hundred percent. Honestly I wouldn't have cared that it was tedious, because all that is is a small setback. It's nothing big until you somehow get extreme lag or the game crashing.

Ok... Let's go through the process....
You write the book, let's say around 5000 letters... something that can easily be done on signs right now without a problem. Once you save, here is the key difference, the text in the book is not accessed again until it is read, whereas the text on the signs are always processed if the sign is in render distance. the Text filtering really only has to take place once, as the text is saved to the book, and wouldn't have to be done again unless there was a change to the text within the book OR there was a text filtering update on Microsoft's side, in which case, it could apply the update at read time (whent he book is actively being read by a player.
Signs are much less efficient than books and can hold far less content per instance as well. the real risk I see is that books would cause the game to grind to a halt in multiplayer as it is right now, since the game currently pauses to allow text to be written. So if time processed normally while the author was writing their book AND the ability to write in a book was disabled for splitscreen multiplayer, I don't see a reason why this shouldn't be allowed.

Yes because the ChatPad connects to the bottom where the mic goes and even when its in it still allows for a pic port. But the best thing about the Chatpad is when typing you dont even have to open up the weird Xbox keyboard you can just start typing.
