Nothing wrong with the sound in my opinion, rain in real life sounds beautiful but Minecraft rain is just a sound everyone knows if they have played Minecraft.
Everyone knows what a fart sounds like, that doesn't mean it sounds good.

During the monsoon, every block on the surface would cover with flowing water, sometimes it would wash out, but then be replenished. 300 isn't as many blocks as it seems, but I guess there could be more, given how rare the monsoon would be.
I think this could be fixed, if they made it so that source blocks would disappear after a certain amount of time.
But... then we'd have to always fix our decorations made from water all the time if that was the case.

I hate rain lol.
When it rains I can't wait for it to be night time so I can sleep it out.
I wouldn't mind if the source blocks stayed. They would be pretty easy to clean up. I also wouldn't mind if the water broke stuff, it would leave messes to clean up, which I also wouldn't mind. Unless ts Redstone, of course.
Fail_Field. He was using farts as an example, not making some childish joke. Farts are natural, anyways.
Back to the topic. How did we get from rain sounds to monsoons? Somebody suggested that there should be three volumes and densities of rain: Light shower (Common), steady rain (Somewhat common), and monsoon (Rare). Then I suggested that physical water should appear during a monsoon. That's how we got here.
Although I agree that being a 'hater' is a strong word, Bloodyphoenix has himself stated that he see himself as a critic to ask the probing questions to better flesh out an idea or bluntly tell a person that their idea is not worth pursuing any further, and highlights those reasons. He has further indicated that if he likes an idea and/or it is fairly well defined for a forum suggestion, then he tends not to post in those. The fact that he hasn't posted in this thread could imply that he actually approves of it....until he says otherwise.
I like the idea of variable rain noises (something more melodic), but I don't support the idea of destructive monsoons... it's really just a means for the world to "self-grief" the player. I think most of the builder-types would become completely frustrated by it in short order with such events happening repeatedly, albeit rarely. It's one thing for it to happen once and quite another for it to happen once a month when the player might be working a year on their build. As mentioned on other "natural disaster" threads, some players get completely frustrated already by endermen just moving single blocks about or snow falling after an update (due to biome shift). It's a fine line... making the game difficult enough that it's fun but not so difficulty that it ceases to be fun (for the "average" player.
I changed the poll so you look like a total DB when saying no, because now when you say no, the thing you are saying is everyone that plays should have to listen to tv static while playing.

Good point.
300.. or even 100 seems fair I think.
Obviously with randomness so on occasion you might see say.. 2-3 beside eachother on occasion maybe.
I'm concerned about the lag this might cause... anyone want to build and run a redstone/water flow drop machine using pistons to drop different sections of water at different random intervals to test game responsiveness?
I'll try running a semi-automated and and fully automated one later , I'll try a regular world and I'll run it for 20 minutes . Will report if I get lag , anyone else willing to do this ?
It will be the Redstone that causes lag, not the water so much. You would be better off spamming a bucket of water.
The flowing water might not be that different from snowfall, since its essentially the same game mechanic. The water will leave after a few seconds too.
I agree with this, and its also a bit loud too, cant stand to be outside in the rain, i9t makes me have to turn my afterglow ag40 headset down just so i dont have to listen to that static like sound. I would want something more pleasnt, maybe even have ifferent levels of rain with different volumes and sounds
e.g. we could have a small drizzle for rain that is very quiet and sounds like real rain , second rarest type. very faint sounding
normal rain- louder than dirzzle but still pleasent and not as loud as current rain.
heavy downpour- our current rain, but not as loud, this would be the rarest type
Ouch, sounds bad.

... That's one way to do it

Exactly. So it might end up being like snowfall, appearing slowly. Only difference is that the water would wash away after a second.
In other words, you would get random blocks of flowing water everywhere, appearing and disappearing at different times.
It will be the Redstone that causes lag, not the water so much. You would be better off spamming a bucket of water.

I really agree with this one I like this idea
