Yeah, I like using wool for bright colored creations. I've never done pixel art before, but that's another good purpose. I use it to mark team colors on buildings or anything too.
I don't like using wool for my houses. Its too bright. I prefer subtle colors, and if anything stands out, its the carpet. That's why I would like these colors planks because it would be a very light color.
i like it but the thing is jungle, spruce and oak planks would probably need this to
If the coloration was added as a stain of sorts to the block, then you would still be able to have the grain of the wood show through, and darker colored wood planks would similarly affect the hue of the stain when applied, yielding a much wider range of colors overall with birch being the brightest and spruce being the darkest.
Actually, I'm still more supportive of adding a 'painted side' value to each placed block, which defaults to transparent on each side when the block is placed or broken, but can be changed by applying a color to a specific side of the block (each of 6 sides ranging in color values 0-15).
Programming design concern: Of course, the major downside would be that there would potentially be a lot more data tracking that needs to be done, and special care would have to be taken to minimize that impact on the game overall... maybe store the painted values in a table and apply only after the block is placed 'if' there is an entry in the table to render as painted rather than by doing a block by block check.
In that regard, staining/painting the whole block would be a simpler approach that meets a similar goal overall. You just wouldn't have the ability to 'paint' two sides of a wall different colors.
That's why only birch planks should be dyed. Or, you can dye any color or wood, but all colored wood would have the same texture and hue
I don't see that having different hues to different types of colored wood planks would cause much of a lag issue, it was my own musings I was talking about where the individual sides of blocks might be colored differently.... I know that wasn't part of your own suggestion... but it would be really nice to be able to do so.
I absolutely love this idea. I hate birch planks and this would give a use to them. However, you should probably post this on the PC suggestions page. The console version of Minecraft is several updates behind PC and PE, and 4J sure as hell won't add any exclusives. They're too busy money whoring skins and texture packs.

The skins and texture packs are a separate team, by the way. They aren't the developers
Woodblock is right, seprate team. 4J is working of other consoles. I did hear somewhere that 4J wants to bring it's own thing to minecraft, something PC dosent have yet. But that was just gossip I heard around TU14 release.
It just gives people more of an option whilst building
That too.
I like options. Most of the time.
But... what I'd like more... is more options with what options are available.. if that makes sense. If we were able to manipulate certain options and situations in this game... other options etc wouldn't even need to be considered... let alone added.
There was no guaruntee of this getting added to the Xbox in the first place. And there are hundreds of suggestions, none of which 4j reads. And if they did read them, I'm sure that if they found one that they liked, they would add it to consoles. If they wanted, mojang could then add it to the pc, and port it from 4j.
You shouldn't go and say that a feature won't be added, just because it was suggested for the Xbox.
Minecraft and Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition are two different games. We might get things PC NEVER gets
Not likely. As much as console gamers wish, it won't happen. All Minecraft games (spin-offs) are exact ports of PC. Only reason PE has items like the Stonecutter and Nether Core (or whatever), is because of errors in coding that wouldn't allow the items to be crafted.

So no, it won't happen.

Yeah!!! We especially won't get new stuff like game controller interfaces, the console crafting interface, the Tutorial World, packaged Mash-Up Packs.... You know... for an exact port from the PC, the console worlds feel really...really... really small.....

So much win, but please be respectful here guys. I know 4J might see this. I hope this is added

Thanks.
Now that I realize what I said sounds like otherwise, I would like to rephrase it, meaning my post is solely about items.

PLEASE 4J, READ THIS!

And I agree that generally it isn't the best type of material to just build stuff with...

As a PC gamer, and watching trends of updates,
this won't come to X360 any time soon.
PC is always first for updates.
Umm, okay... That was a little irrelevant.
