I have this great idea for minecraft on the xbox 360. I don't have any pictures to show, but I was thinking "why aren't there blizzards?" There's rain and thunderstorms, and snowfall but no blizzard.
The blizzard wouldn't happen every time it snowed, just occasionally like the thunderstorms.
Pros: It gives the game an interesting twist as well as a new look during the blizzard (white-misty looking and increased snowfall speed and angle during the blizzard). The twist is that there would be new mods like an ice blaze (maybe called a Frosty or Freeze) that could drop ice so you don't have to struggle getting a pick axe with Silk Touch. Another cool mod would be a bad snowman that drops carrots when you slay it. A rare mob (like the SpiderJocky) can be a Snow Golem that is hostile..but it'll be a rare appearance so don't worry (too much)
Cons: Gameplay vision during the blizzard will be limited to see 3-7 blocks in front of you (for some, this is a great realism experience).
All criticism, praise, etc. is very much welcome and thank you for taking to time to read this
I like the idea... a "natural disaster" suggestion that doesn't involve the wanton destruction of builds within the map! As a person with vision problems, I probably won't like playing while a blizzard is happening (I have a problem with the bedrock fog already)... but since it's an event that comes and goes (and would be relatively rare), I could just hole up inside someplace while it's going on.

Oh, believe me, I do! I haven't had it turned on since they put in the option to have it off.
What I'm saying is that even I could tolerate this without a toggle to turn it off completely because it is intended to be a sporadic, rare event that would only last a few minutes. (Some other people have asked for toggles to turn the weather off completely, though.)

Not to worry, the blizzard would only be in the snow biomes when there is thunderstorms in the raining biomes
The blizzard would only occur when thunderstorms occur. Just like when there's rain there's snow and everything else is unaffected
I thought about adding that but I wasn't too sure. Now that I know you share the same idea I'm all for it, thank you!

Of course, the downside to this is that there would still be "biome shift/climate change" in older seeds... i.e. ones where snow falls in biomes that weren't snowy when these older world's were first created. This is already a big "complaint" among several players who claim that the sudden change to a snowy biome after an update ruined their worlds. The addition of blizzards would just add insult to injury in those affected worlds, I think... but I'm still game for it.
Then there should also be an option to disable weather in a world.
While I haven't always agreed with that suggestion, I am starting to... not so much to turn the weather completely off, but to perhaps convert an old seed to a "default" weather pattern of, say, the generic forest variety. This would give the grass a consistent color as well as prevent snowfall (although it would still rain periodically) and do away with the largest biome shift issue - unwanted snowfall. It would mean that it would rain in the desert... but I think more people would be willing to live with that than with the snow and frozen water that takes over some of the old maps.

I can see where the problem there is. That part really frustrated me when rivenes and jungle biomes were added. The blizzard won't be a completely new biome like the jungle, it will just be an enhancement to already-existing snow biomes so nothing more gets shifted

There are, however, more new biomes coming down the road (since the PC has added several in the past year); so it is likely that we will have some more biome weather shifts to endure. With being able to transfer old seeds into the Xbox One and expand them to the larger size, this issue will carry over onto the new system... and, of course, old worlds that already have extensive snow biomes will still be affected. The ability to "convert" an entire small Xbox world to a generic weather pattern would be a big plus for these seeds... particularly when transferring them over. I think it should be quite doable since Superflat worlds already override the local weather patterns with a generic weather (i.e. it doesn't snow in a superflat seed regardless of how much snow falls in the equivalent seed in a regular world and the grass is always the same green everywhere in a superflat world. If blizzards do get introduced (and your idea certainly sounds like fun), then it would be very nice to be able to prevent snow from taking over in old jungles and deserts and such.

This is an excellent idea. i have always wanted to see blizzards introduced into Minecraft as I always thought it would be neat to have the snow start piling up. Xd
Also i think that the ability to toggle the weather is a pretty valuable idea so that people don't have to be affected by this at all.
For another idea, why are there no items such as weather spawn eggs(similar to mob spawn eggs) in the game that allow you to change the climate in a biome? Is it possible to change a climate to snow by simply putting show everywhere or sand everywhere for a desert biome?
So then there should be two options for weather. One to disable it completely, and another to prevent block spawning/freezing (No snow blocks or cover will generate, and ice won't freeze)

No, I'm suggesting a compromise - A one-time override of the biome weather to change an old world into a world where a single generic biome exists with weather like Superflat worlds have currently. The code to override the individual biome weather in a seed in the game must already exist since Superflat worlds currently generate with a seed string and the associated village placement but do not have the variety of weather patterns that would be associated with that seed string in a non-superflat world. It does rain in a Superflat world, but it doesn't snow. So, I'm suggesting that they introduce a toggle where a person could activate "Superflat" weather, effectively converting a non-Superflat world permanently to a single weather pattern. It would be nice for some to be able to select their preferred weather (since some people do like to make Christmas maps or they want some of the animals to be unable to spawn and such), but barring that, a weather pattern where the grass is a reasonable green, it doesn't snow and all animals types can spawn would be an improvement over the primary irritant of biome shifting in older maps (which certainly seems to be snowfall). The way I see it, turning rain off completely converts the biome to desert - where the grass is brown and animals don't spawn.

How about this: In a normal snowstorm, you get the snow layer block. In a blizzard, snow blocks should generate instead.
You can disable bedrock fog, if you want

Why not have both? Couldn't there potentially be a storm for every (or most) biome type(s)?
Good idea! This would fix so many seeds!
