would have to 'have' lanterns before you could dye them different colors first... not that I object to the idea of binoculars, but how does this fit into the genre of Minecraft (which most agree is very loosely around a medieval time period-ish set)? Maybe a spyglass instead?
How are colored lanterns related to binoculars so this topic doesn't get tagged as a wish list and locked by admins?
Basically what Greg said. Dy-able redstone lamps would be cool, I wouldn't say no to some colored light (Hardware permitting), and a spyglass or telescope would be nice too. It could be crafted from glass and gold or something.
But you aren't allowed to list ideas like this. Each idea has to be presented separately, so this will probably be locked for wishlisting.
I think that different colored light would cause lag. The 360 already doesn't have the processing power needed to run 4 player splitscreen, and it sure doesn't need something else stressing it.

Like with redstone illumination, the ambient light reflected off of surfaces doesn't have to be the color of the lamp causing the illumination, just have that block appear to be emitting light at the source, and just keep the ambient/reflected lighting just normal white light.
Now I know someone might bring up Total Miner... and yes, they did a splendid job with colored ambient reflected lighting on the consoles, but it is using a slightly different architecture/approach to lighting in general to allow for that.
Please do not create wishlists. If you have more then one idea you wish to suggest, please make a separate thread for each idea that is not related to each other.
