I have a few suggestions for 4J and the community for unique to consoles items and blocks. The first one is Corn which is planted like wheat and when harvested yields 2-4 cobs and 2-3 stalks. The cobs can be fed to horses, (when we get them) or placing one in a furnace gives 1 serving of popcorn which gives you back 2 food bars. The cobs can also be crafted with wheat, eggs and suger to give you cornbread which acts like cake and each slice gives back 1.5 food bars.

The stalks can be used as fuel, or combind to make thatch for building. The thatch can be further processed in the furnace into bamboo-like blocks which can be used exacty as you would normal blocks and crafted into stairs, slabs and just for kicks a new fence type.

The other idea I had uses items already in the game to craft stews, (soups?). A meat, a potato, a carrot and 4 bowls gives you 4 servings of beef, pork or fish stew which gives back the same as mushroom stew.
As a last thought you could use the stalks to craft armor (Samurai style?) which falls between leather and iron.
