I did say it would make it more laborous... and what you're describing boils down to just being more laborous. Perhaps a person should have to also decrypt a random puzzle before being able to open the crafting table... or do what one of the Minecraft clones does... you have to find the "recipe" somewhere in the world before you're able to craft the item at all.
What would be the point in that? Just leave the crafting table alone.
All I'm saying is at least make it an option for those who want to.
I probably wouldn't use it.. But that's just me. Some probably prefer it.
I respect your opinion, but I don't see how this would fix the game being way too easy. I can understand it would add a little challenge, but nothing to really increase the difficulty of the game, especially once you've memorized the recipes for different items. If people are looking for more of a challenge, they should look up community challenges that have been created to make the game more interesting. I don't personally know of any of these challenges, but I guarantee there are some out there.

I was being facetious... and I thought it was pretty obvious even without emoticons. Classic PC crafting is vastly inferiior to the Xbox crafting interface... somewhat equivalent to using a handsaw to make a table these days... but some people still do insist on doing it that way, I guess.

actually if you know the ins and outs and all the little small bonuses of pc crafting it can be faster than ours and do a few small things that we cant , like combine 2 Bane of arthropods swords (bad enchants) in the crafting grid instead of a anvil and get 1 unenchated sword to renenchant later (we used to be able to combine enchaned things in our inventories to remove horrible enchants, but 4J changed it to only unenchanted stuff). PC crafting can also craft multiple stacks in one click instead of holding down X or whatever button it is on xbox for 5 minutes. and the ability to 'Spread out" iron or wood equally to make as many equal stacks as possible

I agree about the equal stacks being very slightly faster; however, I consider using the unenchant thing somewhat akin to using a duplication glitch. Not very cool. Bad enchants are part of the "odds" of enchanting... like in gambling... a player should not be able to restack those odds.

Ah i see where you are coming from. But I myself dont see it that way. but i do think manual pc crafting wouldnt fit on xbox...the GUi is just too small and too slow for manual crafting compared to the fast and fluent pc mouse. But i wonder is how will they fit the oh-so-customizable fireworks with our current crafting system if they ever add fire works. ...also another neat thing of pc is bleaching wool back to white with bonemeal.

Lol just reading through all this makes me laugh a little... oh xbox nubs you have no idea how much harder the pc is and when even the option of making the game even a bit harder you complain and say it is a horrible idea because you are too lazy to do it or learn the recipes.
It sounds like someone who wants to play MC on the PC without using the mouse to me....Have fun with that.
If I bothered to play the PC version, I'd mod it with the XBox crafting interface anyway, because I hate having to keep/use out of game references/notes just to do stuff in a game. Also, as pointed out numerous times, the console controller is just not that good with fine movements to make this an efficient option, and even if you knew the recipe, it would frustrate several people as they fought with getting the cursor into the right grid-space each time.
I'm sorry, but I don't see the value of having a PC crafting interface on the Console version.
O think that first, they would need to make the interface and controller be more fluent and smooth. secondly, this could be useful at times. Say I want to make bonemeal, instead of scrolling through the list of every dye until I find it, i could just plop a bone in the grid and bam, 3 bonemeal... Same for colored wool and stuff. But things like tools would take to long to make on the consoles, but small things like dyes, wool, colored wool , buckets, bowls bottles etc would benefit from classic crafting

but you wouldnt need it everytime, it only takes a few times to learn the recipes, and the Xbox version SHOWS the pc recipe, so if you just pay attention you can learn the recipes without even trying to, .. I know most recipes. Are there a few I dont know because i never craft them on pc? yes, but it takes just 2 minutes to pull up the wiki page, and like a minute to pull out a crafting guide app on my phone

another thing about that is, it can help you conserve on mateirals on pc with the combineing things. say you have 2 diamond swords. you later enchant both. you have no more diamonds, and both swords are close to breaking, it is too expenisve to repair in an anvil, plop em together and you get a diamond sword with like half durability or so, and no encahnts, which you can then repair with diammonds when you find someWhaty i want from this is a hybrid option - pc crafting is slow if you are mking tools compared to ours, but anything possible in the 2x2 inventory is faster on pc than here, so by a hybrid system its like this - our inventory (triangle on ps3) has a 2x2 grid in it, we can still press square on ps3 for simplified system. crafting benches remain unchanged

I'd still rather not use it.. But if others want to use it then by all means.
so say they add in fireworks.
would you rather scroll through a 500 item long list with our system to get the length shape and color you want, or get to the point if we had manual crafting

I'd just like to say that fireworks would probably be nerfed. We don't need all possible combinations, just 15 or 20. There can be different slots in the firework section for rockets and stars and all that stuff. Just saying.
All im asking is just a hybrid system, craftig bench remains untouched, but we get a 2x2 grid when we press triangle or we can press square for simplified crafting. It gets on my nerves scrolling through the whole list just for bonemeal / a certain dye when its faster to put a bone n a 2x2 or a rose 2x2 for red dye

This is wandering a bit off topic but one of the points of the survival game is to gather materials... with the need to do so being created because the process of playing the game "consumes" them. If you don't consume diamonds, you don't have to look for diamonds... they aren't real and they have no real value outside of their uses in the game. Same with XP, the ONLY reason to try to get it is to be able to apply it against new enchants. This IS a game afterall.

I understood that from the start... which is why I said I could support it as an option but I myself would probably never use it. For me, it would still feel like a step backward. Also, as the amount of crafting options gets larger and larger, the Xbox crafting system will require more and more scrolling... it's inevitable; and then crafting directly will, no doubt, feel more like a shortcut than a hindrance (if one can commit the various recipes to memory).

im not saying diamond are hard to find or worthless, but everyone has those slumps where they do a could do multiple strip mines from one side of the world to the other multiple times and not find any diamonds , then find some a few days later . it is just a for the moment thing, because if you used 2 broken swords it wouldnt have full durability anyways.

also, commiting MOST recipes is easy, the current system even SHOWS YOU THE RECIPE. wyhile I know most needed recipes, ofif i ever need something rare such as a cauldron or something nobody ever crafts or uses, then I would need to look at the wiki .. but everyday things, blocks, etc I know

I'm also saying that they are not easy to find... but they are worthless outside the parameters of playing the game and part of what makes the game a game (the vanilla game) is the motivation to go out and find stuff on an ongoing basis (i.e. not just finding diamonds once and then using that diamond pickaxe forever and ever). That things get tougher and tougher to find as world's get older is also, as I see it, a part of the basic game. However, many people that it is a travesty that they have to go out and find more resources to replace consumed items... so they demand things that make what they have already found last forever. It see that as defeating the purpose of playing the game at all.

just wondering, are you also against combing swords in an anvil if 2 swords are almost broken then because it gives you a new diamond sword with combined enchants often for less than 30 xp?

Ok, that makes a bit more sense to me now... Maybe just include a manual crafting table interface tab as one of the tab options in the current crafting interface that allows the player to manually input their own recipes from their inventory?
