I have a new idea for a passive mob with a purpose. Rabbits! You might be thinking, what purpose does a rabbit have? Well, they can be used for Jump Boost Potions, and drop carrots! They also can be breeded with a carrot.
Rabbit:
Health Points: 10 (5 hearts)
Spawn: In forest biomes and in Plains
Drops: Carrots and Rabbit Foot
Experience: 1-3
New Items:
*Rabbit Foot
*Jumping Boost Potion
Rabbit Foot:
Rabbit Foot is a material dropped by rabbits. Rabbit foot can be used to make a Jumping Boost Potion. As you can probably tell, jumping boost potions give you the ability to jump higher for 3 minutes. Jumping boost potions do not make you take damage when jumping up. Rabbit foot gives a luck booster which: Gives Higher chance of better enchantments using less points and Better items found in dungeon chests that have not been searched yet. However, Rabbit's foot can be unlucky as well; any creeper in a 50 block radius of your character has a higher chance to be hit by lightning in a thunder storm. For those of you who don't know, creepers that are hit by lightning turn into Charged Creepers, which are more deadly then normal creepers. (Idea by BlazenBehemoth)
Changelog:
+Added luck booster to rabbits foot
~Changed drops from rabbit fur to rabbit foot
+Made Idea
I think it's a great idea, just a thought but what if the rabbits also dropped a rabbits foot in extremely rare cases.
Some of the benefits due to the luck booster it would give:
- Higher chance of better enchantments using less points
- Better items found in dungeon chests that have not been searched yet
However there is also a downside to holding the rabbits foot, any creeper in a 50 block radius of your character has a higher chance to be hit by lightning during a thunder storm creating a super charged creeper.
I think it's a great idea! In addition to dropping carrots, they can also drop rabbit meat which can be cooked and add 3 points of hunger when cooked and 1 for uncooked. Also the rabbit meat is the thing that can be used to make the jumping potion.

Yes, I am indeed thinking, "What purpose does a rabbit have?" But even after you gave examples, I still don't notice a purpose. Perhaps there is something that I am not seeing? Carrots can easily be found in NPC villages, and Jump boost potions? Really? That seems a bit overpowered...
Anyway, even if the potion wasn't overpowered, it needs some explaining. How much blocks high/higher would you be able to jump? Is it just made with rabbit fur, or is there another item needed to make the potion? I doubt it should be just rabbit fur.
No support, as of now. I just don't see a purpose.
Who would want to drink a potion full of wet rabbit fur?
I don't really think that it should be fur that creates the potion but something else. I also don't think they should drop carrots, or anything really. I that it would just be cool to have them in minecraft.
How about instead of rabbit fur, its rabbit ears! Then it would seem more potion-like. Also, the carrots should be a rare drop. Maybe they could be a pest and when they see carrots in the ground fully grown, they go over and take it. The jumping boost potion should be just like a beacon's stats. If you put Fermented spider eye in it, it takes away your ability to jump. And I agree with the raw rabbit leg idea.

I'd like that.
Tamable when fed carrots maybe? Maybe they could be something that keeps a certain mob away? I don't know.
I like the idea of the jump potion... with the addition of the Halo Mashup Pack.. it felt weird not being able to jump "halo style", of say 3-4 blocks.
But now that I think of it... Does the higher jumping addition come with a perk of feather falling? Cause I can imagine that jumpting some additional blocks would cause us to hurt ourselves easier?

I love this idea. The game actually does need more non-hostile mobs such as this just to liven it up a bit more, even if they don't drop anything.
I think it would be really neat to one day have rabbits, deer, birds, honey bees, sharks, and alligators in the game one day. Even if not every single mob added has a purpose. =p

I think out of all the animals you listed I am keen mostly on seeing a pixelated elephant :).

I would drink rabbit fur if it made me jump higher.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.

I would've added this, but I thought carrots seemed more suitable for rabbits. I'll add this to "Player Suggestions" though!

Thanks for the support. And I agree that we do need more passive animals.

The Rabbit is a good idea.
I would kill them. They're pests, I've even killed a few irl (Not the babies, the big ugly ones)
I also think that when you breed them, they can spawn up to four more babies, to simulate how rabbits breed like crazy.

Yes, it comes with a feather falling thing.
I would never kill a live creature in real life.
