So I thought that if chain armor was available in creative mode, shouldn't it be available in survival mode too?
Leather armor is honestly way to hard to get before night if you don't live in a forest. Iron armor usually requires mining, and mining usually requires armor. You just can't win.
One iron equals 3 chains and you would simply make it out of chains.
I figured since this is already in the game, they would just have to put the crafting recipe in.

I barely ever mine with armour in every difficulty. The most I use is ironically leather armour since I have stacks upon stacks of leather from all the cows that I've killed.
This is how you would make it:
In the creative menu stone tools are along side chain armor. So it would make sense to have chain armor made out of cobblestone. That makes no sense at all. Chain is metal; metal is not rocks.
You would simply convert 1 cobblestone into 3 chains. Then you would put the chains into the same place as all the other armors. Rocks != metal.
I figured since this is already in the game, they would just have to put the crafting recipe in. It's there. Chainmail Armour is made out of Fire.
Tell me what you think!
Responses in bold. I think Chainmail Armour should stay as a rare thing (assuming Villagers do trade it. If not, Zombies and Skeletons will eventually spawn with it on and be able to drop it) since it should not be made out of rocks and iron is already easy enough to get.
Zombies and skeletons wont drop armor until you already have a full set of iron or diamond armor. Again, not all seeds have villages. fire can only be obtained through mods and this is the xbox section. I also said that one iron could make 5 chain which would make chain armor easy to obtain without actually going mining. Not everybody has stacks upon stacks of leather before the first night. Especially if you don't live in a forest.

I think it should really just be lower grade iron armour. But maybe have it be true to its nature... No defence against projectiles but very good with melee attacks, or things like pigmen and zombies, but weak against skeletons and ghasts etc.
Recipes could be:
Helm: 3 instead of 5
Body: 5 Instead of 8
Leggings: 4 instead of 7
And boots: 2 instead of 4
So it could be a kind of armour that has a speciality of being good against melee but bad against arrows, etc.
Be good for those survival people starting out or just trying to be genuinely cheep with their materials. Lol
I like the fact that chain armor is as rare as it is. And yes, you can get it through villager trading, but its a very rare trade. I don't support, iron is very abundant, and much better than leather and chain.
Yeah but.. what would we need to trade? 12 emeralds?
The trading is already 'broken' in this game, it could use some simplicity, if that's how it's supposed to be the only way to get.
What do you mean? Trading isn't broken. And like I said before, iron armor is much better than chain. i think chain is more for decoration, or as a trophy
I know chain is available in the game. I traded with a blacksmith for the chest and leggings. I haven't seen the helm or boots yet, but I'm assuming they're in there. Chain mail is cool looking, and reminds me of the old D&D days where some classes could wear it, but not plate. Too bad it's not good armor in mc. Now if chain offered lighter encumberance than iron, that allowed you to run faster or farther, it might be worth the emeralds. But it doesn't, and it's not.
I agree that it should be craftable, but with iron. Or make it bluish and need a bit of lapis to make (we need a practical use for lapis, right?).
I think Woodblock is right about chain being merely decorative. Wouldn't it be great if mc had a mannequin-form like Skyrim, where you could load armor onto it? [I don't play pc, and if they already have it, please ignore my ignorance.]

Well if it served the way it does in real life as I mentioned above, it could be an armor that has more of a speciality with melee and not ranged attacks.

Okay, I could imagine having chain do more melee protection.
And what do you mean by trading being broken? It works fine for me.
I strongly support this idea. Chain armor, like everything, is overpriced through villager trading, and a full set is only half an armor unit better than full gold. I also support the idea of buffs and debuffs like faster movement and less projectile protection. All armor should have stuff like that. Also, the current PC recipe with fire makes no sense, because fire is unobtainable, and is metal made of fire? Also, the iron-chain conversion rate seems pretty balanced. Something so currently useless shouldn't be so rare.

No it works fine.. It just seems like they're all horrible.
Like.. why would I trade 4 emeralds for a piece of WHEAT? Or 5 for an iron sword? (true story). It just seems like terrible deals considering emeralds on survival aren't really THAT easy to come by, and don't really serve a purpose other than trading and decoration.

EXACTLY, who would make a crafting recipe and the ingredients are not even available and asking for you to look for something that is harder to get than diamonds (emerald) is unbelievable because by then you would have more than enough armor to not care about chains.

Hmmm... seems more fair than 1 iron = 3 chains...
That way it would take 15 iron for a full set instead of 8 iron...
9 ingots less than full iron instead of 16 less...

I was under the impression that chain mail armor can be obtained from trading a blacksmith in survival.
The problem with the blacksmith is that not all worlds have a village and they are usually far away.

Unless you set up a cow farm. But those take time.
I would support the idea if it were crafted like this ^

Hmm... probably a little less than 12, since a diamond sword is 12-13 emeralds (according to Minecraft Wiki Image)

yeah agreed
I wouldn't mind Chains in the game.
