So natural disasters should be in the game. There will be different things that affect the chances and kind of disaster that happens: Difficulty, Location, and Time.Difficulty affects Chances of having a disaster. Also
Location affects what disaster will hit and how hard it will hit. Also if a disaster does hit, it will only hit once (that week) and at a random place on the map. They will have a 1/1000 chance per minute to hit.
Locations affect what kind of disaster will happen.

On the beach of an ocean biome or the edge of the world will have a tsunami.

All locations have a possible tornado or huricane.

Swamps and rivers can have floods, but only during or after rain.

Mountains can have a ravine open beneath them and lava source block spawn on top creating a "volcano"

Earthquakes will happen near ravines or mountains and may create ravines. May create a tsunami if near a ocean or the edge of the world.

Sides of mountains can have an avalanche.

Snow biomes can have blizzards.

Sinkholes will be located in fields or plains.

Meteorite can strike anywhere.
Time only affects how long it takes till these start happening.(depending on difficulty)

Peacefull - 2 in game weeks

Easy - 1 in game week

Normal - 4 in game days

Hard - 1 in game day
I think this would be great to implement into the game and would make it much more realistic.Tell me what you think!
P.S. If you would like me to put a description of the disasters just tell me, although I'm sure you guys know what they are.

I agree with you, radioactiv, it would indeed cause lag. Also you need to explain these a bit more. How would there be a earthquake in Minecraft? To be more specific, how would the get the blocks to move?
There should be an option to have it enabled and once enabled you can't disabled (Must create a new world to enable it)
Meteor = Basically Falling sand that appears in the sky that does around 20 Explosions to make a Hole effect like the world got hit.
The Destruction rate is to high for the difficulty placed, It should be 1 every Minecraft month and leave it to that 1 Per day is way to much and you will never get anything done with meteors destroying the area.
tsunami will never happen that will actually cause lag and would be very hard to clean up.

Sand Falling effect say a top layer of a cave that is visible will be put into the sand fall effect and once landed can Become solid. (Its been done in Total Miner.
I highly doubt there will be much lag (Sure with 8 people there are always lag spikes because people have wireless and different internet companies) But if you have 8 people with medium connection it wont be an issue this project can be done since it only involves like an average of 10-25 TNT going off at once and we all put down at least 50 at a time to try to blow up as much as you can.
Some players already consider it to be a "disaster" when a few animals disappear from their pens. I can just hear all the moaning on the forums here if they introduced things like earthquakes and meteors... besides if the "world is disappearing bug" being reported by some has any basis in reality, the ultimate in natural disasters already exists in the game - global annihilation.

True that x2. Lots of whining. Sounds like a cool idea (as an option) that would probably not go over well in the end. Reminds me of old Sim City, where you would spend hours cleaning up traffic, pollution and unemployment only to have aliens invade or volcanoes erupt or earthquakes, um, quake. Fun, yeah. But also a kick in the pants. With as long as some mc projects take to finish, I could see it being a major bummer.
I do not agree however, with this only happening once a month because it can happen anywhere in the map and affects, max, a 15x15 area. the chances of it actually affecting you are very slim. Maybe only 1 a month on peaceful, 2 a month on easy, 1 every 2 weeks on normal, and 1 a week on hard.

Difficultles shouldn't matter it should be a Month for all Not on the same day but the game will have a count down on 30 days then it will pick a day after that time limit is over to strike. 10 Hours of game play should be enough to recover... First of all That will put more work on 4J to add this in and its a perfect time for everything being on HARD doesn't mean weather changes any faster it means the enemies are stronger

You dont understand, ANYWHERE ON THE MAP. Not always going to hit you dude. If by chance it did hit you, then you would have like 100 hours to recover if They happened once a month.
The earthquakes could just shake all the players screens and spawn in a ravine while they are shaking and the players can take mild amounts of damage. I think this would be a great idea. Avalanches can pile lots of snow blocks down the side of a mountain. There could also be a new option in the world options part of making a new world to have natural disasters turned on or off. That way the survivalist Minecraft players out there can have fun with them and the people who just want to make stuff or be casual can have them off.
The concept - though potentially entertaining - is basically griefing without a player. It would be incredibly annoying to finally finish building a huge construction like a castle, floating city, etc. only for a hurricane to come along and destroy everything. It would be even worse if it were a volcano, because then you'd potentially lose a place to rebuild as the area would be covered in lava...
It's a no from me...

Exactly. If you couldn't tell, I'm one of those survivalist minecraft players.

How will it impact the parts of the map that aren't loaded into memory yet? Will it load those areas in order to generate the impacts of the disaster and be able to save back to the game or just abort the disaster if it is occurring in a part of the map that hasn't been loaded into memory that game session?
15x15 area? Why not a full chunk (surface) space, 16x16? Is the disaster centered on a chunk, or can it be centered anywhere?

If a disaster occurs at some point x/y/z, what are the commonalities for each disaster and what are the specific in game effects/impacts for each disaster?
Awesome as this might be, it just wouldn't work on console. Lag (as mentioned) and limitations don't you know. No matter how appealing a warning siren blaring and then hunkering down in some underground bunker might be.

Seriously, does anyone REALLY want unstoppable griefers in the game?
I sure as heck don't....
Stay fluffy~

If people really want it..
But I don't personally want something like a meteor or an earth quake destroying stuff that took me say two weeks to build.

I agree that this should be toggled.

Lol OBSIDIAN WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN MY LOVE!
(about 2% per MC day/20 min/ or 13% per MC week/140 min/ or 45% per MC month/30 MC Days/600 min/)
...or...
Variable by difficulty or not?

No Lightning Storm? No Forest Fire?
LOL, No joke there.
