I don't think this topic has been brought up yet, and I haven't noticed this feature in game either, but what I think they should do is make it so that you are able to break down tools, armor, and items into raw materials.
So essentially it would kind of be like a reverse craft table, where you'd tear items apart rather than create new items.
I think this would be useful if you have several tools of a certain material, we'll say diamond for example, and you decided that you'd rather have the diamond in the tools put towards making diamond armor. What they could do is make it so that how much material you get from breaking things down would be determined by how much wear is on the item you are breaking down.
I've though about this some myself. But there are a few things I need cleared up. How would you break them down? Would have need some reverse crafting table? What about enchants?
Overall, I'm split with this idea. I like the idea of breaking apart tools and armor, but I also feel like this could be abused. And before I see this in game, I would like there to be a way to remove enchants from our tools and armor.

You have half my support
I agree with the enchants thing, but a way to take advantage of the game is to be right next to the enchantment table and save. Then, you enchant something. if it is not what you want, exit without saving and try again. You get absurd enchantments from doing this and it cannot be removed from the game.

I think it should be possible to give back what you made it with. But.. say only a third of everything you dismantle so that way it isn't... "Lets use this axe 99% of the way and then recycle it again for another 100%"
Or if that was the case... have the durability go down by 50% each time.
Perhaps say it was diamond... recycle it to where it goes the same blocks mined as iron, than stone, then wood, etc.

Although, I rarely see myself using this feature honestly.

This is how I feel as well. If it was for everything but tools it would be really balanced.
It would be a joining/ uncrafting table and each recipe would require the original products plus a slimeball to join the items back together.
This is a good idea, but not for tools or armor/anything with the green bar that can be used up, I think that stuff like beds, doors etc should have the opportunity to become their regular parts once again for easier transportation but one other problem I sense is stuff like wool where uncrafting would produce string and hence spiders 50% useless
Or spiders are another source of wool! 150% usefulness depending on how far the uncrafting/re-crafting process would reach.
... but it didn't get much in the way of commentary. I agree with the diminished return for used/damaged tools/weapons/armor though.
I was thinking that the crafting table would be a fine interface to use... usually there is only specific one material I am particularly interested in in each specific item anyway.
I don't see much of a point to this.
If you made a tool that you don't want, too bad. Use it until it breaks or just dump it. Everything has a use.
In the two years that this game has been out, I've accidentally made the wrong thing maybe two or three times.
I agree I mean if your scared your going to need that material Later don't make as many tools to start with. I think they should spend more time in trying to get us caught up to pc and making for instance A skin creator for xbox so we all can express ourselves.

I'd say that you can only disassemble items that are at full health and have not been enchanted.
