I know that the problem has to do with a lack of planning, but neither of us planned it. The fight completely come down to who had better stuff. I had about five seconds to plan an ambush. What difference does critical hits do? I was also at my base but all of our stuff was elsewhere and I had a task at hand which was building a wall around our garden. Back to muskets, there is nothing wrong about them and all they add is more options of ranged weapons for everyone. At this point, the crossbow is just a more accurate bow that takes longer to reload. The musket is a completely different option. It is a weapon that functions completely differently. You also need to own an anvil to craft them. You can't enchant them either. I guess people are just against weapons that use a small explosion to propell a small metal or stone ball forward.

Critical hits decide whether you win or lose a fight. They are probably the third most important part of combat and most of the time they happen completely at random but if you jump then they are more likely to occur or always occur, I'm not sure which. And if you are building anything I can kind of see why you would be unprepared. At this point it would more than likely come down to who has the better armor but you have already excluded so much that Minecraft builds it's system off of.
As for muskets, if you upped the damage on a crossbow a little bit and maybe made them use bolts instead of arrows, that would be good. The bolts would be crafted just like an arrow but with a piece of iron, to give iron a later game use and to make them a bit more costly. I think that the fact that they are so different would kind of be a killer. That so many people would think that they didn't fit in the game would kind of kill them. While I would like for muskets to be added like this if they were added, I don't think they will. I think that you would kind of agree that Minecraft leans more towards magic rather than technology. Even the most mechanical thing in Minecraft (redstone) is pretty magical. It requires just a lever and then you suddenly have a device that could power every device in the world. Adding muskets would change that feel pretty majorly. And people may just not like the idea of having muskets. I don't know their reasons but most people don't.

Oh hey. Looks like you're reading my signature. That's nice. If you thought I was going to put something funny here, I'm not. I will however put a link to my suggestion about gold tools. I think it's fairly popular. It would be nice if it was added. Just click the link and look at it. Please? I'm desperate. http://www.minecraft...-arent-useless/
Jumping limits your ability to retreat. Think about that. I don't see much magic about the redstone stuff. I think it is just the game's equivalent of electricity. If done correctly, they can well blend magic and technology together and muskets would not ruin that because of how simple the mechanism it uses is, and where in time it was made.

Jumping actually helps you retreat and does not limit it in anyway. You think making a musket is simple?

How does jumping help you retreat? Also, the mechanism is pulling the trigger scrapes a piece of flint, which causes a spark, which ignites the gunpowder propelling the musket ball forward.

Jumping while sprinting makes you run faster and you can manevuer better. Yes but that's pretty advanced for Minecraft.

You can't jump and sprint at the same time while fighting someone, and if you want to retreat, you have to stop fighting, stop jumping, then start sprinting and start jumping again.
Hmmm. Maybe in the form of enchantments. I like that idea, in fact we should have more effects like this on enchantments.

Not too complicated if you can explain the entire mechanism in one sentence.
It's not that hard to turn around and then start sprinting and jumping. You can sprint and jump at the same time and if you want to retreat all you have to do is know the right time. At about three hearts you should turn and run because you can take another hit and then get away.
I could explain to you how an airplane works in one sentence. Your point?

We don't have motors or titanium alloys in Minecraft. Everything needed to make the musket is already in the game.
The first plane was made of wood. Wright Brothers type stuff.

"Since they could not find a suitable automobile engine for the task, they commissioned their employee Charlie Taylor to build a new design from scratch. A sprocket chain drive, borrowing from bicycle technology, powered the twin propellers, which were also made by hand." That is a direct quote from Wikipedia with conformation by several people.

You seem to be missing the whole point of Minecraft. That is to mine and build a structure to live in. And adding all of these different armor types would just be a mess. There is no reason to go into all this depth for a game as simple as Minecraft. And for the amount of time it takes to get diamonds, you should have some pretty good benefits. And it's not all about equipment. I have beat people with full diamond armor and a diamond sword with me having iron armor and an iron sword. It was pretty simple. All I did was ambush him with a Potion of Instant Damage and then wail on him with the sword. When he would get a hit on me, I would run back a few paces and then jump backwards without turning around. He would still be running forward and then I could wail on him with the iron sword again. It took about a minute and involved some pretty good hand skills but I beat him. That and if you are playing on a PvP server with more than about nine or ten people then you might as well just give up searching for minerals anywhere near spawn. So, if you have the skills, the know-how, and the equipment then you can win. As a note, anyone that would say "OH BUT YOU HAD A POTION OF DAMAGE AND THOSE ARE OVERPOWERED!" First of all, now that melons spawn in jungles, it's not exactly rocket science making one. Second of all, if you can't make one, just use a bow and be farther away so that you can get more hits in.
Agreed, 1+

As for the musket idea, I give 99% no support. I just don't see it happening. Mojang said no guns. A musket is a gun, correct? And also, it doesn't fit in the game. Redstone fits in, because it's not 100% electricity; we don't have Flat Screen TV's. I included redstone because one of your arguments were "redstone doesn't fit". And besides, you didn't really explain much about this gun. How do you reload? How much damage does it do? Appearance? etc...

*Sigh. Another one of them. Honestly, I have pretty much left the Xbox 360 edition, and if this doesn't happen, I will probably leave it for good. I can have all of this stuff on the PC edition.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I won't really hesitate to switch completely and the only thing that might make me hesitate is the fact that I payed 20 dollars for it. I think I might pass for the next gen consoles depending on how much larger the worlds are. With the next gen consoles, you should be able to agree to some contract that pops up stating that 4J is not responsible if you fill up your entire hard drive with one world.
