As much as I feel your pain for PvP reasons... I don't play multiplayer, and I would not want to see these slowing and vision limitations impacting me in my solo play. There are other less drastic game impacting ways to help balance it out without gimping the solo-play or cooperative play experience. such as looking at revamping the cap on Armor Protection Factor, or modifying the sliding scale to 3% per APF/EPF point instead of the current of 4% capped at 25 (for 100% damage reduction).
Come on. Even you should agree that no one should win a fight purely because they had better equipment. That is just absurd.Even in CoD it is not like that. It is who saw the other first. Still a crappy system but better than Minecraft's. Minecraft's should be more skill based. Minecraft should be more like halo where you can win even if you have crappier stuff and they saw you first. On my PC world, I have almost a double chest full of iron without any use for it. Armor should also slightly do that thing that the pumpkin does, limiting your field of view. You want to be invincible? guess what? you are going to have a smaller field of view and you are going to run much slower.
GregNelson has it right.
Anyhow, just because you put in the time and consideration to go find diamonds you should be slowed down just so that guy that has played for ten minutes and gotten iron can run back and heal up and then beat you down over and over again? Or so that guy that is sneaking up on you and sees that you have a helmet so he stays just out of your field of vision can sneak attack you and completely demolish you? Also, this would just be plain out annoying on singleplayer. Picture this, you're coming home after spending the night out fighting some endermen so your health is low. You need to get back to your house quickly so you take your diamond armor off. While you approach your house you slowly turn to see a skeleton walking toward you. You're helpless to survive his onslaught of arrows where if you had been wearing your diamond armor, you would have shrugged off the hits and easily killed the skeleton. I just think that this is a little bit unbalanced.

Oh hey. Looks like you're reading my signature. That's nice. If you thought I was going to put something funny here, I'm not. I will however put a link to my suggestion about gold tools. I think it's fairly popular. It would be nice if it was added. Just click the link and look at it. Please? I'm desperate. http://www.minecraft...-arent-useless/

You are the four hundred thirty seventh person to use this argument. It is not valid. We are not asking for assault rifles, just something that you shoot once then spend the next few seconds reloading. Not every game with guns is a shooter game either.

Double statements? Whatever, in some aspects, I agree with you. However, adding one or two guns into the game does not turn it into a shooter. Would you count Terraria as a shooter? But I do think that adding muskets is just unneeded. I believe that if you go to about page 54-56 you will see just how I feel about this subject.

Are those real numbers? I have a feeling they aren't real numbers. We know you are not asking of assault rifles or LMGs or RPGs or SKGs or LMNOPs but why would we need this? I'm not going to say that adding guns will ruin the feeling of the game but I do think that muskets aren't needed. If they added crossbows that would be perfectly fine with me but right now I believe that there are just too many people who are against the idea of guns of any type for them to be added to vanilla Minecraft.

Currently, there are NO disadvantages of wearing armor. None. There should be at least some so the people that don't feel like mining for diamonds or wasting them on armor should have to lose every fight just because the person that they go up against mined for diamonds. There should at least be some skill involved. Armor is something that should definitely have pros and cons to, not just pros. BTW in single player, why do you need armor, Gregnelson? Also, with the features suggested in this topic previously, this might fix itself a little bit. The war hammer is designed to do the same damage to a player whether or not they are wearing armor, but that damage is very low unless the player swings the hammer back, then it would do a ton of damage. I am thinking two hearts of damage regardless of armor. This weapon would be way more expensive than a sword. Also, gregnelson, the slowing would be linked to the boots only and the reduced FOV is linked completely to the helmet. I am sure you could suffice without either boots or a helmet. It would not make sense if your field of view was reduced if you were wearing only a chest plate. There surely has to be some kind of disadvantages of being invincible because in many servers armor is too easy to get because diamonds are easily obtained from things such as voting.
I believe that there are just too many people who are against the idea of guns of any type for them to be added to vanilla Minecraft.
Which have failed to give a valid reason why. They just hate on the idea and fail to give a good reason why, and then I give the same counterexample and they don't listen. Gunpowder is useless to everyone that doesn't use TNT, so in that case, it is pretty much useless to me and many people because the only time TNT is used is to grief servers. so that would give some reason to have muskets. An actual use for the gunpowder that accumulates in chests.
As for armour, not much notice of my full face helmet (which could lower FOV, but have more protection than the normal helmet) and breastplate only chest piece (which could weigh less, and maybe have zero impact on swing speed, while providing less protection).
With these sort of changes I can imagine archer classes and such forming, give full armour a ranged weapon accuracy penalty.
Then you will see archers with leather chaps, leather shoes, iron helmet, iron breastplate.
A similarly levelled tank player might opt for iron helmet with visor, full iron chest armour, iron legs, iron boots, picking a versatile high damage weapon like a battleaxe. (He would be a target only to archers when he's in the slow and open, on a horse he would be invincible (except to the musket which might prove a bit of a balancing factor actually)).
Then you might have pikeman which may require themselves to run from knights and take cover from archers.
Badly equipped, with a archers armour and a spear/ pike.
This should in my opinion be a good and 'cheap' tactic, very cheap setup where you can hold out but not necessarily easily kill well armoured enemies.
Just my vision.
But I don't think iron and diamond armour should have huge speed deductions, just enough to make it noticeable when chasing a lightly/ unarmored player as they slip out of your grasp.
The more depth added, the more options you get.
Because at the moment the only option is full diamond, diamond enchanted sword, enchanted bow.
Yet for being a tank of a person he will suffer zero penalties for the armour he is wearing.
He can run around while the guy smart enough to build defences fires at him from a tower.
Then pull out his bow and be just as accurate as a guy with zero armour and kill him in one hit.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
Thank you last. Armor is completely overpowered and that needs to change. I think the only people that would disagree are the people that do what I am talking about. Walk around with a full suit of diamond armor taking advantage of the fact that there are no disadvantages. In this case, they would be saying "Hey! Armor is not overpowered! Now I am going to go back to taking advantage of how overpowered armor is."

You seem to be missing the whole point of Minecraft. That is to mine and build a structure to live in. And adding all of these different armor types would just be a mess. There is no reason to go into all this depth for a game as simple as Minecraft. And for the amount of time it takes to get diamonds, you should have some pretty good benefits. And it's not all about equipment. I have beat people with full diamond armor and a diamond sword with me having iron armor and an iron sword. It was pretty simple. All I did was ambush him with a Potion of Instant Damage and then wail on him with the sword. When he would get a hit on me, I would run back a few paces and then jump backwards without turning around. He would still be running forward and then I could wail on him with the iron sword again. It took about a minute and involved some pretty good hand skills but I beat him. That and if you are playing on a PvP server with more than about nine or ten people then you might as well just give up searching for minerals anywhere near spawn. So, if you have the skills, the know-how, and the equipment then you can win. As a note, anyone that would say "OH BUT YOU HAD A POTION OF DAMAGE AND THOSE ARE OVERPOWERED!" First of all, now that melons spawn in jungles, it's not exactly rocket science making one. Second of all, if you can't make one, just use a bow and be farther away so that you can get more hits in.

Splash potions. Does no one use splash potions? And why would you not want to use TNT? They work great for strip mining. Barring that...
There is a reason that people hate on the idea. They just don't like it, don't think it would fit in Minecraft, or are setting a to Mojang's rule of NO GUNS. I have mentioned this earlier but a musket is a gun. No it's not a LMG but it is still a gun. Mojang said no guns. Musket is a gun. Musket=Gun Mojang said no guns=No muskets. That is one viewpoint defended. I don't think it would fit in Minecraft is because that the iconic Minecraft structure is just one of those games that don't need muskets or flintlock pistols in it. It would make the bow ridiculously underpowered. Lastly, if you don't like something you just don't like it. There is nothing you can do about that. It helps if you present a case why you don't like it but if you don't like something then you just don't like it. It's comparable to picking a favorite color. My favorite color is black. I don't know why I like black but I do. Perhaps a God is up there playing in my brain telling me that I like black. Or maybe my neural pathways just have some tendency to give my brain dopamine. I don't know. But I do know that some people just don't like guns in Minecraft. I am one of those people but I have actually backed up choice with an argument.

What happened was some guy came out of nowhere, and I saw them first but they had full diamond armor and a diamond sword. I tried to ambush him and for every time he hit me, I hit him five times. He still won obviously. There is no skill involved if the fight just happens and neither person expected it, but they had better stuff so they won.

Actually, a lot of it revolves around jumping and getting critical hits. If you had jumped and gotten critical hits then I'm pretty sure you would have won. Another thing is that you can't just beat them with a sword. You have to get back and use a bow or potions. Potions are probably my favorite but they do take up a lot of inventory space. But that's the thing about PvP. If you get ambushed you are screwed. If you ambush someone else that has better armor than you then you still stand a pretty good chance as long as you play it smart. I like to get to high places and keep a Knockback II sword with me so that I can pretty much just play King of the Hill. I believe a lot of planning and skill is involved, just not the kind of skill you want. I think the parrying idea would be good, minus the tier nerfing.

I don't think I will have an arsenal of stuff when I am so far away from everyone that I am not expecting a fight. If I was expecting this guy to come and I had like ten minutes to prepare for the fight, I would have won, but he just came out of nowhere with me seeing him first. Also the leader of our faction is an idiot and keeps everything for himself so I have no access to bows. Here is how the fight went: he shows up, not seeing me. I see him first. I ambush him. He starts fighting back. He wins because he has better stuff. I die and have no way back to that base and he and his friends make TNT cannons and blow open our base and steals a stack of iron. That is how the fight went. Also, what do you mean by tier nerfing? What is wrong with having the disadvantages amplified the more your protection is amplified? That only seems fair. You want to be an invincible tank, you are going to have to deal with some cons of it. Not asking for very much.

Unless you have the sense to wear full head protection.

You can't get a simple bow? Just make one. If you mean you can't get an enchanted bow then a regular bow works just fine. And anytime you go out of your base in a PvP server you better be packing. Also, if your guild leader is that much of an idiot just leave his or her guild and join one of the others. Or just make a new one. I think your problem stems from a lack of planning.
