Like I said, there are other worlds like that which has TNT but no guns... So I'm good with how it is. Heck, RuneScape has TNT and Fireworks and only very limited guns. (There are a few gun-like weapons but no actual guns).
And the gunpowder being used for splash potions makes sense to me...
So basically, Minecraft is just fine with how it is handling gunpowder stuff.
Wasn't the name of "guns" came from gunpowder itself? (I was thinking gunpowder was created first and wasn't originally made for guns but for TNT at first. Might be wrong).Wasn't the name of "guns" came from gunpowder itself? (I was thinking gunpowder was created first and wasn't originally made for guns but for TNT at first. Might be wrong).

Actual Trinitrotoluene (aka. TNT / C6H2(NO2)3CH3 ) does not contain gunpowder at all, and it was first prepared in 1863 by German chemist Julius Wilbrand
A fantasy game is good with some technology but not all.
Look at The Elder Scrolls series... No guns whatsoever yet there are robots in the game (Dwarven Spiders, Dwarven Spheres, Dwarven Centurions, etc) and there was even Dwarven air ships AND space ships... Yet NO guns at all. The most advanced weapon is the Dwarven Crossbow because that's all that really is needed... Oh and TNT is also in The Elder Scrolls series (We get to use it in the Tribunal expansion in Morrowind).
So a lot of the redstone machinery, TNT, etc stuff are just fine to have for Minecraft. It doesn't kill the fantasy feel of the game... But guns do. Guns will flat out just ruin the fantasy feel, it will make the combat system unbalanced, etc. Any gun too, including muskets, flintlocks, whatever!
Plus we have a great logical way of using gunpower... We can make splash potions that do damage to enemies via poison or other means... Which is pretty much like grenades!
I'm back!
I don't actually play the Elder Scrolls, but as RADIOACTIV stated, giving reasons such as "It's not in this game and they are both fantasy" is poor reasoning. From what i've heard the Elder Scrolls and Minecraft are completely different games:
The Elder Scrolls world can be described as one of high fantasy with influences from a multitude of cultures all over the globe (Medieval, Roman, Nordic, Ancient Japanese, etc.). Like most works of high or epic fantasy, the Elder Scrolls games are typically serious in tone and epic in scope, dealing with themes of grand struggle against a supernatural or evil force. ~Wikipedia
And Minecraft is not fantasy, it is a Sandbox indie-game. And if you think it is okay to compare to other games, I will too:
Terraria is also a sandbox indie game, and it has Flintlock Pistols as well as Muskets. So even if it were poor reasoning to site another game, I though I'd just point these things out.

Exactly. Even though I'm still opposed to guns, saying another game doesn't have it is not exactly a good source.
On the other hand, I see where he is coming from. The Elder Scrolls and Minecraft do have similar technologies, they both have very primitive forms of wiring and piping and they both have some pretty messed up places to visit. They even have similar dimensions as stated below
Nether:Oblivion
Mushroom Biome:Morrowind
End: ...Alternate Plane of Oblivion
Ender Dragon:Dragons in Skyrim
Even the jack of all trades race (Imperials) has some similarities to Steve. Mostly skin color but still.

Oh hey. Looks like you're reading my signature. That's nice. If you thought I was going to put something funny here, I'm not. I will however put a link to my suggestion about gold tools. I think it's fairly popular. It would be nice if it was added. Just click the link and look at it. Please? I'm desperate. http://www.minecraft...-arent-useless/
Mojang/ 4J doesn't have trademarks on any of those ideas, neither does Bethesda.
As much as Bethesda might like to try to sue people.
I think the argument is more or less over for flintlocks.
You can argue that they don't feel right, but fact is an ender dragon doesn't really feel right to me at all.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
The enderdragon to me always seemed a very rushed conclusion of the game.
I know it's an alternate dimension and all but the dragon doesn't seem real at all, the sound seems broken, he seems to float instead of fly.
I would've really liked if 4J created their own end with the sky dimension, because I mean really how cool is the sky dimension compared to the end?

It is broken how it can go through blocks. I think that the blocks he cannot destroy create a barrier that he cannot go through. The PC editions ender dragon is even worse.
I haven't even bothered getting the ender dragon fight on PC, it is a pretty unsatisfying fight in the first place.
In a way, it is. I just play with a friend until we both have iron armor enchanted with protection one and a level 30 enchant sword. We pretty much just trade for the Eyes of Ender and kill the endermen to get up to the pillars. That or a bow works pretty well. Then, it's just spam RT until it dies, collect XP, everybody get mad at the one guy that fell in the Ender Portal at the last minute and got a ton of the XP, grab the Ender Dragon Egg, leave game, start new game, rinse and repeat. Beat the Ender Dragon 4 times in one night by doing this.

The person I usually play with is a total idiot so we played for about four nights and got no where near beating the dragon or even getting there.
LOL I have a pretty good set of friends. One of them is just about bipolar (he's not really bipolar) because he will go from super focused on killing Endermen to walking in the desert "hugging cactus because they need friends" as he puts it. The guy I was talking about is pretty focused though. It's good to have focused people to play with for when you want to do something serious. He does suck at building though...

The etymology of the word gunpowder itself is a 15th c. word derived of the 2 words, gun and powder: http://www.etymonlin...?term=gunpowder
For quite some time prior to this, it would have been called black powder.
Both of these names by themselves are post flintlock firearm era (around 15th c. also) and well past the matchlock firearm era (12th-13th c.).
