So, you see a creeper walking towards you, oh it's fine. You have a MUSKET [Glittering noises and all that]
After deciding to load it you realise that it takes a long time and the creeper is getting close... moving it would disrupt the loading as it is a very cautious procedure. Putting in the final gunpowder, you take aim and fire at the creeper who is now 8 blocks away. The rifle shoots your view of into the sky and the creeper keeps going, the bullet missed and you are now respawning.
Actually, the same thing can happen with a bow and arrow:
A creeper is walking toward you. You realize that its a good time to use a bow and arrow. You pull back the arrow, and while trying to aim... you hear a kaboom and die.
So your "reason" for not wanting guns is inaccurate.
It is sad that hundreds of people did not support it but cannot give a valid reason why.
I know. All we want is a flintlock pistol or musket, but as soon as people see the word "gun" and "minecraft" put in a sentence they instantly say it is OP.
Agree with what you mean, but I wouldn't call it the right 'era' so much as the appropriate 'ambiance'.
It's impossible to nail down the 'era' for MC... you have clear pane glass, TNT (made out of gunpowder and sand), something the resembles electricity (Red Magic), your default skin is wearing a tee-shirt and jeans, primary weapons are Middle Ages at best...but can be crafted out of diamond, there's enchanting and potion making (magic).
If I were to put a specific 'era' to it, I'd have to say, ohhh all over the place between circa 200 AD to 2000 AD with a fantasy twist.
If you craft it with a stick coming out of the middle, (Spiked shield) would cause one heart of damage to anyone attacking them that doesn't have armor.
I like that idea, except it would only hurt you if it was a melee attack and not a gun or bow or ect.
I think that the only thing that should reject ranged weapons is the armor the person is wearing. Like anything iron and up should reject arrows without damaging the player.
Except in crafting splash potions....
This thread is much older.

According to this statement, you are saying that armored players are basically "invincible". If this is true, why would we need more weapons?
I'm not saying I don't support the idea, it's just a question and/or theory.
