Having new wepaons I'm all for it Guns not to fond of it.. I know another game like Minecraft (not mentioning) that has guns and it's not as fun as Minecraft.. Guns out of proportion. Shields that's an iffy thing still thinking how it would fit Minecraft. Other then that having more weapons and such could be nice.
There is a very common misconception on this forum. Guns as in muskets, where you have to put in gunpowder and a musket ball and reload after every shot, not guns as in ak's, shotguns, machine guns, or plasma rifles. Muskets have very simple mechanisms. Hey, I wonder. Is 4J even listening to this topic, or even other topics?Agreed, armor needs to be improved. The best thing for this edition would be a rustic, medieval style texture pack that adds armor, that say has like face protection, and maybe even the Mohawk looking thing that horseman helmets have on them.

Shields are just what they are, they protect you.
Making combat more tactical than sword swinging and who's diamond armour lasts the longest.
You might decide to pack a shield, a spear, and make like common infantrymen keeping threats like swordsmen two metres from them.
They need horses aswell, I really like running around on the PC horses firing arrows at chickens like those legendary horsemen archers.
Diamond armour and a heavier weapon should be the tankiest you can be though.
We just like adding some complexities to the combat.

Muskets of the time might do more damage than a bow and arrow in general, but they were vastly inconsistent with the force the shot was expelled. Which makes bows more accurate at a distance, because the arc of the shot is more predictable.
You might be able to fire the musket faster on the first shot, but you would have to take time to load your musket again to get ready for the next shot. Of course, you could prep and load a dozen muskets ahead of time and just quickly cycle through them until they were all spent.
Here's what I see for a musket. When fired, the damage the shot would inflict is calculated randomly, this determines how gradual or sharp the arc of the shot would be (more damage = straighter shot and further range, less damage = shorter range and more arcing). It also determines how much use wear is left on the musket.
When the health bar runs out on the Musket, the Musket explodes in your hands when fired and you take the excess damage of the shot instead (maybe modified by a multiplier). (Better to throw it away before it blows up in your hands...or load them and give them to your 'friends' to use).
If you are carrying loaded firearms and you experience an explosion (firearm backfire, creeper, TNT, blaze powder) or catch fire (ie. due to fire or lava), there is a good chance that the loaded firearms you are carrying will discharge (loosing item health) and you will take the damage of those shots going off as well).
Just some thoughts on the Musket. Fun... but risky business...

Not too much damage when it explodes, you don't want to completely ruin the weapon.
The randomisation sounds ok to a small extent (it shouldn't be FPS hipfire style where the bullets come out of the barrel at 45 degree angles), there's a reason they'd say point often.
I'd could see myself running around with four flintlock pistols pirate style.Oh and maybe guns only go off if they're in you're hotbar, so in that case you don't forget you even have them.
Small percent chance and even rarer to do damage, it ain't often you'd have a loaded gun to any important parts, It'd be a grazing shot.

Yeah... "Guns" should never be added... It will really just set a whole new mood for the game... however, battle axes, clubs, daggers, etc. Seems interesting. A much more unique combat system would add A LOT to the game... however we need to keep in mind, that any changes like this will most likely be seen over on PC about 2 years before on console... so don't get "too" excited!

Could you go more in depth as to why you don't believe guns are a good addition?
Thanks for the support for other weapon ideas though.
Oh, and console doesn't have to follow the
PC, they have up untill now, but they're going their own way now what they wish to add is all them.

Guns is a wide bit of terminology.
guns are actually older than TNT or Dynamite.
They were around in the 1500's without tipping the balance of nights in armour.
Notch probably also thought he'd never add horses either when he put in carrots on a stick and pig saddles.
Flintlocks IMO fit right in, they essentially have Gunpowder and its useless.
I never make TNT but I'm sure I'd make a musket and to shooting cows with it, 1HK none of this running around.
Flintlocks hit right at home, Notch just doesn't know it yet.

Personally, I'd say that if you choose to use a firearm on Hard Mode well past the point that it was safe to use, then you get what you deserve. But if you are playing on Easy Mode or Normal Mode, I'll agree that it should be scaled down somewhat.

Go to minute 23:53 and you will hear from 4J that NOTCH said that THERE WILL NEVER BE GUNS IN MINECRAFT and then 4J said that they work for NOTCH so no guns for Minecraft XBLA
Beat that!
It's possible that Notch 'could' change his mind at some point in the future. I say that there's no harm in discussing it.

That kid was so stupid. Also, he mentioned SDK, which is a mod that adds Ak's, machine guns, rocket launchers, and a whole bunch of other crap that would not fit into minecraft. There is still chance for this. We are not asking for SDK. That is a common misconception about this topic. We want a musket at the most. No more than that.
They put down the chance for SDK, but they did not put down the chance for Balkons. So hah! You just invalidated yourself! You tried so hard to put down this topic but failed!
And to you last, I also don't use TNT, so gunpowder is useless to me as well. Also, what would be a good feature would be to be able to make a new lock, which crafted with an old, worn down musket would put a bunch more uses into it.
Unless they put down the chance for Balkons weapon mod, or tell the staff to lock this topic due to the fact that they will not add it, there is still chance. I have beaten you beastly mandude, I reign superior in this topic! Hhahahahahahahaha!I have a feeling that most of the minecraft users will appreciate this as an addition.Either the things from this topic get added, or Minecraft's combat system goes to crap.
Erm where are dose pills again I am startin to want sum more, last where are dem pills? Where is dat hooka again? Medicines that were not prescribed to me are soooo good. Mushrooms are also good.
About the gun... bullets almost do not penetrate chain, but it is weaker than iron, and if you were to craft chain you would need iron, right?
You can't, at the moment, craft chain armor inside MC. You can get it in Creative mode, find it as an armor drop, and potentially, be able to purchase it from the blacksmith once trading is introduced into the game.
...but yes, IRL, if you were to craft chain, you would need some sort of metal wire to roll into links, cut, and weave into the chainmail that is used for making chain armor.
You and I share the same idea with weaponry that should be in minecraft.
What do you think of blunderbuss? Too powerful? I can't decide.
Firearms shouldn't get enchants and as a result be more powerful that bows but harder to make and expensive to shoot.
All melee weapons should get their own special enchantments.
Like dagger scores 5x damage if sneaking.
Warhammer type thing should just have incredible knock back like sprint but not with sprint.
I also wouldn't mind shields placed in new armour slot maybe you can put 1 handed weapon in there for duel wielding?
This was your first post in this topic last. I felt that we had some kind of bond when you posted this. At first, I felt that we were the only two people in the world that were in favor of a better combat system.
