I was referring to what last said... the logic the he used for the musket...
You see the only true thing I actually agree with is having more options, mainly spears, but for me any type of gun even the old one shots just does not interest me much. I actually have nothing to really say to the "sound" logic that he has for putting it in. In other words it is logic that makes sense. kind of confused as to why you didn't understand that.
The first part of what I said was in reference of lasts' statement above that. I mean it is a good feeling to hold your ground and defend it, warding off any intrusion...
I hope that is clear enough..><

O you like the idea of shields tamorr?
It would work just like sword blocking does, maybe with better protection however.
I was thinking put it as a armour slot and with anything other than weapons that use block on LT or have no LT function have it out.
So if you bring out a block he swings it out on his back so you can use LT to place the blocks.
If this extra slot was to be taken further you could even put torches or something in the shield slot so you can use a sword and a torch at the same time which would be great when exploring dark caves while being safe from monsters.

yeah actually... Shield would be an interesting feature to add especially that way. The programming on it would be rather simple, since quite a bit of it is a bypass, just to have it out. implementing it is a different matter, since they would have to modify a bit the sword to some degree if at all. I would think that would not be much, if they have it the way I am thinking.
After all each item in the game seems to have their own ID within the code.
Torches would be nice when they figure on how to get a movable lighting in without taking up too much ram or block updates to do it. I can see that as a possibility. Always would be nice to have a mobile light. maybe even a lil' glowstone lantern could be crafted...
We are getting the lanterns in the next update after all. What I am refering to is a mini lantern or just simply putting the lantern in that shield slot will make what you are holding look like a mini version. That way it would not take up another block ID in the code. Adding more function and possible uses for other blocks is always a plus in my book..:D
I do agree they need a shield slot in the very least. It could also act as a quiver to some extent. That would be if they added more types of arrows to the game. Makes it easier to switch between the arrows then. After all one usually can not wield a shield and a bow at the same time.

I hadn't even thought of a quiver.
This could mean a easy way to have more types of arrows.
Instead of implementing a quiver item that acts from your inventory.
The item in the slot should appear on your player, like I said the shield on your back or the quiver this may give some info on what a player plans on using in a fight prior to it actually happening, letting a well thought player get the advantage in a PVP situation.
If a spear was implemted that you could also throw I would wanna use that with a shield though so I can be like Spartans.

Yeah the quiver thing wasn't quite my idea initially, since I remember a thread about it before this section was even up. Besides that I know I mentioned in that thread a little this and that. Not sure if was me or someone else that came up with the slot initially. But with all this in mind it could merge a lot of things for having an extra slot.
Even if I am not really a pvp type person, I can see that being a good thing. After all it would give a more tactical point of view. Where as you can size up the enemy there and attempt to overthrow based on those observations. Would make pvp a bit more flashy than just a sword bow in hand going at it in hopes to land a hit.
I am not so great with a bow...><
I more take on a defensive stance anyhow...lol
having a Spartan look would be interesting. Also liked the that age of combat...:D Well one of the many that I like... medieval and anything before that. Those are the ages I actually loved the warfare of... and history. At least what there is left known of those ages. lol

I was thinking, maybe we should sum up this whole thread and where it has gone in one post.
This is how the update should go, and yes, we can be open to debate about this.
- Anvil should have two features; the PC's feature and a four by four crafting grid to craft bigger and better weapons
- Longsword: just like a regular sword but appear longer and require one additional material the sword is made of, enchantable, but sharpness is taken out because the damage should already be an equivalent of sharpness IV. High damage. Can use a shield while equipping it. Low armor damage, similar to the sword now.
- Battleaxe: more combat related than the regular axe. Has two sides. You can parry with it. Medium damage and medium armor damage. This would be the in between weapon. Can not use a shield with it. It is so frigging huge. Would look like the character is using both hands to carry it. There would be a one handed alternative called the war axe, which is a bearded axe. Still in between weapon, medium damage. Can use a shield while holding it.
- War hammer: A giant frigging hammer. Would look like character is using both hands to hold it. Can't use a shield while holding it. Can parry. Kinda low damage, enchantable to sword's sharpness II but that is it. High armor damage just like real life, where they were made to knock over people, disarm people, and cave their armor in. Best choice if fighting armored player. One handed alternative would be the mace.
- Spear/Javelin: Described by Lastusername; would be throwable, and used as a melee weapon. Low damage, low armor damage, but long range, with the ability to knock back people. Throwable, but you need to sprint to get a critical hit, which would stun the target and leave them with little health. Always bounce off target, unless hitting them with the last use. Can use a shield.
- Lance: described by lastusername, would be effective against horsemen and horse armor. One handed, shield is usable. I think I covered that pretty well for a short description.
- Crossbow: Similar to a bow, but shoots slower, but more damage and more accurate. You need the anvil. Not effective against players with iron armor, diamond armor and gold armor, but almost no protection from chain and leather. Gets rejected by iron gold and diamond armor. Like the arrows bounce off.
- Musket/Flintlock Pistol: This is the most debatable one. Some want it, some despise the idea. Would shoot straight, can't dodge the shot by moving like you can with the bow. Would be effective against iron, gold, and leather armor, but get almost completely rejected by diamond and chain. Requires musket balls of either iron or stone, and consumes one gunpowder with each shot. Costly to miss. Low durability and low fire rate. It takes like five seconds to reload, but very rewarding to hit the target. Remember, this one is still up for debate.
-Shields: There will be another armor slot for shields. Shields provide 75% damage resistance if used while the enemy hits. All tiers would provide the same resistance, but some last longer than others. If you craft it with a stick coming out of the middle, (Spiked shield) would cause one heart of damage to anyone attacking them that doesn't have armor.
- Quivers/musket ball pouches: These would be worn by the player to use the type of ammo they hold. Quivers would hold up to 64 of the same arrow type/bolt type, and pouches would hold 16 musket balls of the same type. This would allow there to be different arrow types or bolt types or musket ball types. Like incendiary, explosive, and poison, and for the musket balls, stone and iron.
- Dagger: small weapon, low damage, low range, but more swings count.
- Random mob weapons: Pitch fork, would be sticks in the shape of a sword, but with two sticks coming from the sides, maybe iron instead, would attack more than one enemy at a time. would be good against pigmen. Maybe enchanted to have fire.
Please tell me if I left out anything.Let's debate, but not flame war the topic until it is locked.
That's a good list radioactive.
I can't think of anything that got left out.
One thing you might wanna do is add it to your first post so its easy to find for people coming in to discuss.
One thing I wanna say about the lance is not effective against horsemen & horse armour but rather from horseback.
And all weapons should be better from horseback if we're going for realism.
The added speed of the horse to your swing makes every strike a deadly one, but at the same time made a hit to you more damaging aswell, often knocking a rider off his horse left him helpless, especially on his back in a couple hundred kilos of chainmail, plate and leather padding.
Sorry I ramble

Eventually... Just wait for maybe a day, and either someone new will bash it or someone like mustache guy and bloody phoenix will bash it. MinecraftinLikeCrazy might bash it again. That list helps the people that have never been here.
They don't really bash.
But they do Dislike ideas for seemingly no reason at all.

How about spells? I know there are people that want to go more into the magic side of Minecraft. There should be a slot near armor called spells. You put the scroll of choice there (Fire, electric shock, frost, slowness, calming, (wouldn't work on people) just things like that.) It would be powered by some bar called the rage bar. You drink a potion of rage and it gives you a full rage bar and fire makes you shoot a fire charge from your hand. The potion would be expensive but renewable.
Spells might be interesting.
I'm either thinking they should be cast from paper scrolls that cost experience points to enchant or have a special GUI selection thing and have them be unlocked by scrolls found in dungeon chests and such.
Or your idea which is also a bit more in depth.
All for magic in some form or another... As long as it is feasibly done. If too tedious then there would be no point in having. I do like the idea of aquiring them through enchanting... Maybe a random factor could be put in similar to the way enchanting is done. You know with the books on the pc version.
Instead it would be scrolls. Well that would be one was, and is an expanding what last said.. I actually would mind there being an mp bar of some kind either to be able to do naturally. Like the extra slot radio mentioned could be used for the scroll, and that will cost mp for each use. Having it like a potion enabled is too limiting in my opinion.
However it could be that the mp bar doesn't show until you research your first scroll or have a scroll in that slot. MP consumption could be costly. The levels could mean something to it. Of course there would have to be a maximum of it, but with each level of xp gained the more mp you would have. So You would have a choose wisely when enchanting a new scroll/tool or being able to cast more spells. The mp inscrease could be small per level and degrade how many points you get added to max mp like a bell curve. Once you die the xp you do gain back, if you do will be costly in not only spell casting use, but also in enchanting as it is now.
Well that is an idea at least.:D
