Horsemen don't need swords at first. they can just mow everyone down with the horse. The only reason they need the sword is in case someone killed their horse and they have to get off. I heared that foot solders used leather armor, and yes, spears.
Medevil weaponry was all about using advantages in the lack of something else.
Spears again are a very good example, foot soldiers lacked good armour and skill so they instead fought from greater range where they could be safer.
I think I would find a tactical approach on minecraft warfare is alot more fun than who can get the most crits on the other player,
Or who's boots break first. It should be who has the best tactic/ the smartest player (the more unique weapons and different tactics the better)
Things like cool looking Viking shields and horned helmets would be cool aswell.
I like the idea of having themed sides in a survival RPG map like Viking vs... Some...people.
Maybe I'm crazy but to me that seems like a really fun server. Huge player battles grabbing small bits of and at a time.
Men charging in with axes, while some hang back with crossbows, horsemen gallop past and a half dazed man is flung 3 metres into the air by a powerful horseback hammer swing.
Bits of land represented by the spaces in between field hospitals. Every couple of days a new war Is raged on untill an army finally claims the kingly title and disbands the others into te wilderness. Inside the towns jobs are done and money is spent on food, home furnishings and new weapons to try out.
It seems like the coolest MMORPG ever to me ahh well maybe some day I'll grab a good PC, server and alot of creative builders.
Since most things won't be introduced until the next gen, we don't have to worry about this stuff making the world look small. If the next gen xbox still has limited worlds, I will switch to Minecraft on the computer. It has more capabilities than that.
I would just be happy to just have spears... Possible alternate use could be fishing... Kind of a two in one tool... although for the fishing part you would have to see the fish....><
Regardless that is one thing that lacks in the game is a reaching weapon. I don't care if it is your standard pike, as long as it is some kind of pole arm or spear type thing. Halberds and glaive might be nice, but the pike would be best or long spear...lol

Even Tamorr thinks that the weapons we have are too basic.
too basic... no... just like having more variety mainly... and different ways.. as tactical combat does interest me...or at least more ways to fend of the enemies...:D

I would certainly prefer spears, maces, and morning stars since I get attacked by spiders a lot. Stab them when they jump then rush in and either crush or pierce them(Depends if you have a mace or morning star, since the latter has spikes).
I like the idea of hoofing spears 50 metres into the distance (to score a critical you would have to be running while you charge the shot.
The throw would stop your run, like they do when throwing javelins to put momentum into the shot.

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
Javelins would be more powerful than encanted bows
That's quite powerful.
However I suppose when you have to start sprinting with it for criticals, after all that it would be very slow.
I like the idea of having a spear being throwable, but then a different sort of polearm as a more damaging fully hand to hand weapon, with either switching between hammer/ axe or blocking with it.

If you look at other examples of guns though.
In New Zealand when there was war between Maori and European the Maori ambush like tactics did much better even though they often had only stone axes.
I would say both bows and guns both have their strengths.
Make guns very loud and powerful though and I'll be happy enough with them.
The Land Wars came after the Musket Wars (Maori vs Maori), all the remaining tribes had muskets of their own by the time they had to fight European encroachment, and were practised in their use in siege and ambush situations.
I don't think there really needs to be a lot of new weapons unless they achieve some new without unbalancing the game. I certainly don't think there should be modern "kill everyone in the room" type weapons. Perhaps spears with longer reach would be a good addition, or a slow-loading cannon* or a catapult perhaps. A pile of new weapons with effects similar to swords or bows seems redundant.
* I know you can build a TNT "cannon" now, but you can't really aim it very well.
I don't think muskets are OP at all.
You can 1 hit players with an enchanted bow.
Not to mention you can fire off arrows at about 1 per second.
It should have a greater range but some small spread.
As soon as you get armoured targets it will be a few shots.
And if you have the iron and gunpowder to use a musket you could easily make iron armour a sword and TNT to just destroy unarmored people.

Armor doesn't protect from musket balls. Even diamond would shatter from the momentum of the musket ball. A stone musket ball would shatter diamond. That is how fast it will travel. And another thing, iron armor was meant to reject arrows, even longbow arrows. Arrows would not even dent iron armor, while muskets would just explode right through it as if it weren't even there.

Yays
I must've turned them off somehow by mistake.
Tomahawks, knifes, shrunken type things, spears, javelins, dynOmite!
?? I'm not sure what would fit best.
possibly either knife, shuriken, or spears (which would be techically javelins to some degree)... Can't decide between those 3...><
Love the Asian Dynasty era. or the edo period in Japan.:D

Maybe something like a gas potion that the effect is slow and avoidable. but affects the entire area, but you could easily just walk away.
