I have had it with the limited amount of weapons in the game. Without enchantments, even a diamond sword can seem powerless, and you will easily get overwhelmed even on easy, and this is coming from someone who plays on hard. We need battleaxes, war axes, clubs, warhammers, spears, and best of all, crossbows. Very similar to bows, but arch less, and be more damaging and accurate, but require bolt. I don't know how, but bolt should be renewable like arrows. Also, some of you might think this is too far, but we need muskets and flintlock pistols. We would need musket balls for those, and they would consume gunpowder. That is as far as firearms should go. We don't need a PKM LMG to fight off creepers.

I was thinking, maybe we should sum up this whole thread and where it has gone in one post.
This is how the update should go, and yes, we can be open to debate about this.
-New Mechanics to Improve Combat:
-Players with better armor run slower than players with lesser armor Ex. someone wearing diamond armor will run much slower than someone wearing leather armor.
-Parrying and blocking an attack from another player gives recoil, stopping any attacks for a set amount of time, probably half of a second.
-The stronger your sword is, the more recoil you take if another player blocks an attack.
- Anvil should have two features; the PC's feature and a four by four crafting grid to craft bigger and better weapons
- Longsword: just like a regular sword but appear longer and require one additional material the sword is made of, enchantable, but sharpness is taken out because the damage should already be an equivalent of sharpness IV. High damage. Can use a shield while equipping it. Low armor damage, similar to the sword now.
- Battleaxe: more combat related than the regular axe. Has two sides. You can parry with it. Medium damage and medium armor damage. This would be the in between weapon. Can not use a shield with it. It is so frigging huge. Would look like the character is using both hands to carry it. There would be a one handed alternative called the war axe, which is a bearded axe. Still in between weapon, medium damage. Can use a shield while holding it.
- War hammer: A giant frigging hammer. Would look like character is using both hands to hold it. Can't use a shield while holding it. Can parry. Kinda low damage, enchantable to sword's sharpness II but that is it. High armor damage just like real life, where they were made to knock over people, disarm people, and cave their armor in. Best choice if fighting armored player. One handed alternative would be the mace.
- Spear/Javelin: Described by Lastusername; would be throwable, and used as a melee weapon. Low damage, low armor damage, but long range, with the ability to knock back people. Throwable, but you need to sprint to get a critical hit, which would stun the target and leave them with little health. Always bounce off target, unless hitting them with the last use. Can use a shield.
- Lance: described by lastusername, would be effective against horsemen and horse armor when on horseback. One handed, shield is usable. I think I covered that pretty well for a short description.
- Crossbow: Similar to a bow, but shoots slower, but more damage and more accurate. You need the anvil. Not effective against players with iron armor, diamond armor and gold armor, but almost no protection from chain and leather. Gets rejected by iron gold and diamond armor. Like the arrows bounce off.
- Musket/Flintlock Pistol: This is the most debatable one. Some want it, some despise the idea. Would shoot straight, can't dodge the shot by moving like you can with the bow. Would be effective against iron, gold, and leather armor, but get almost completely rejected by diamond and chain. Requires musket balls of either iron or stone, and consumes one gunpowder with each shot. Costly to miss. Low durability and low fire rate. It takes like five seconds to reload, but very rewarding to hit the target. Remember, this one is still up for debate.
-Shields: There will be another armor slot for shields. Shields provide 75% damage resistance if used while the enemy hits. All tiers would provide the same resistance, but some last longer than others. If you craft it with a stick coming out of the middle, (Spiked shield) would cause one heart of damage to anyone attacking them that doesn't have armor.
- Quivers/musket ball pouches: These would be worn by the player to use the type of ammo they hold. Quivers would hold up to 64 of the same arrow type/bolt type, and pouches would hold 16 musket balls of the same type. This would allow there to be different arrow types or bolt types or musket ball types. Like incendiary, explosive, and poison, and for the musket balls, stone and iron. This would be literally worn by the player, the quiver on their back, the musket ball pouch on their side.
- Dagger: small weapon, low damage, low range, but more swings count.
- Random mob weapons: Pitch fork, would be sticks in the shape of a sword, but with two sticks coming from the sides, maybe iron instead, would attack more than one enemy at a time. would be good against pigmen. Maybe enchanted to have fire.
-Magic: Another slot on your inventory/armor area, would be the scroll slot. You make a scroll out of paper and one ender eye, and you have the blank scroll. You enchant the scroll to have powers. When you have the enchanted scroll in that slot, the power should be fueled with rage. Rage would come in potion form and you can drink it to get some rage in your rage bar in the HUD. You will eventually run out of rage. Some scrolls would be fire, you shoot a fire charge from your hand, Shock, you shoot a small bolt of electricity from your hand, just things like that.
Please tell me if I left out anything.
Let's debate, but not flame war the topic until it is locked.
Another thing to note is that at Minecon 2013, 4J said that even in the 360 version of Minecraft, there will not be guns. What Paddy was thinking in his head when he said that was that there was not going to be an SDK thing added to the game. The people on this topic are not in favor of that. Just keep that in mind that this topic has not been put down.
i like the idea of new weapons. and i think your on to something. but dont you think this would be just a bit OP. maby not guns. but i do like the axes and other close range weapons >.<

I use unenchanted stone swords and I never get overun (On normal mostly) If I had an enchanted diamond sword I'd essentially be a God.
Not that I'm against the idea, it's just it's not that hard to not get killed.

But I need diamonds for my diamond coated diamond mansion with optional (but let's face it, it's hardly an option) diamond towers and a diamond studded fedora.
I have an XP farm that works to that principle of blocking the mobs face and hitting their feet.

Well then go play on hard. I have been overwhelmed many timmes with an enchanted diamond sword. Wait! Do you wear armor? I do not wear armor for monster fighting, only PVP. With muskets, they would need to be better than bows because they suck. They have a nasty habit of bouncing off the target mob, and that can be life costly. Go play on hard with four zombie pigmen right there with no armor, you will see what I mean.

I almost never wear armor, unless I find a piece in a stronghold or somewhere, although I am planning on taking diamond armor, with a diamond sword, all enchanted lol
And I dont mess with zombie pigmen, Ghasts are probably the mobs I hate the most and I sure-as-*** aint gonna mess with an army of zombie pigmen while I have satan's favorite pets shooting fireballs at me and turning a, reasonably nice netherrack flatland into a firey hellstorm of fire, death and pain.
Also, I've found that Nether slimes (I've forgotten their actual names) tend to hit me after I turn a corner and hide from the Ghasts because I need to regen some health

You and I share the same idea with weaponry that should be in minecraft.
What do you think of blunderbuss? Too powerful? I can't decide.
Firearms shouldn't get enchants and as a result be more powerful that bows but harder to make and expensive to shoot.
All melee weapons should get their own special enchantments.
Like dagger scores 5x damage if sneaking.
Warhammer type thing should just have incredible knock back like sprint but not with sprint.
I also wouldn't mind shields placed in new armour slot maybe you can put 1 handed weapon in there for duel wielding?

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I actually like the idea of having a spear/polearm (Pike,Halberd,Poleaxe)... Well maybe just a Halberd would be nice as it has an axe/spear tip, maybe for defense, but has a long reach.
I have an idea that could be made from 3 sticks down the center and 1 string to either side to make a bao staff. That could be similar to the spear/halberd in the way of reach but do less damage as it is a bludgeon type weapon, but still deadly.
How the Halberd could be made could be similar to how the axe is made but replace 1 of the stick parts with the material to be used so forms a 2x2 square offset on a stick. Either that or exactly like an axe with sticks going down the right side (3 extra sticks). Possibly one of those sticks, maybe near the head of the axe part could be string.
A spear could be just made like a shovel with either string or leather added. Maybe at the base or near the top.
Crossbow could be easily made by using the bow recipe and inserting a stick in the center. Unless you think should be more to it.
hmm... I think the war hammer could be similar to the pick but with 2 extra materials on the left & right of the middle stick maybe even replacing the middle stick as well with either leather or string or the needed material.
Battle Axe could be like the warhammer except not replacing that middle stick. That way you are basically mirroring how the axe is made.
A club or mace (would be a mace when the material used is not wood) could have the design similar to a sword but instead of the bottom stick it could be string or leather... This would be the grip that you usually see on club/mace.
The bao/spear/halberd I would think having 1 block extra distance it could hit from... as they are usually made for a longer reach...
A club/mace would be similar to a sword, but might do less damage...(unsure about that.)
I like what was said about the crossbow, it having more damage than a bow, which in a way makes sense. Higher velocity the more painful.
That dagger idea was a good one too. The recipe for that would be simply a stick with material used on top of it.:D
The main thing I actually wouldn't mind seeing, if you could not tell already is the spear/halberd thing. I want something that has a longer reach so that you could fend off at a slightly further distance. Even if it is not by much, it would still be a different way to fight...:D

Yes! The blunderbuss would be perfect. This would be a great way to take advantage of our crafting method, and how it is different than PC's. Our method can call for two different things having the same recipe, so, maybe a war axe like in oblivion, would have the same recipe as regular axe, but be in it's own section of the crafting table for weapons. Please also remember, using an axe is better than using anything that is not a sword. The war hammer should have increased critical hits, because of that intense momentum you are hitting them with.

Or, you could have a waraxe with two blocks on the other side of the stick too, so that, said war axe, would be double sides and look very different.

One time on minecraft PC a zombie killed me then took my armor and diamonds(what if 4j studios added that feature to minecraft)
Blunderbuss, musket, pistol - fire stone balls for ammo and require a supply of gunpowder as well there could be a powder horn added to the game you could harvest horns from cows and mooshrooms the powder horn could hold a full stack of gunpowder inside but it would be required in order to use a gun
As for the stone balls you could get 4-8 stone balls from one block of stone they could stack to 64 they could require another item like a pouch made of leather in order to use them
As for the crossbow wouldn't be bad it could do 2x the damage but be 2x as slow to fire it as for the bolts it could be a silimar recipe to arrows get rid of the flint have 2 sticks and a feather the sticks would be stacked cause bolts are thicker and shorter then arrows and often they are just a sharpened stick no head on the bolt tip
Other melee weapons would be okay for variety or for someone with limited resources like a warhammer could be two sticks with 1 wood, stone, iron, gold, or diamond on each side of the top stick
A bow staff wouldn't be bad either longer reach plus cheap to make just 4 sticks there could be another version that has blaze rods on each end to do fire damage
There is another weapon/placeable item i would like to see in minecraft and that would be cannons
Cannons could be operated similar to a furnace load your powder and cannonball then exit and hit a button and BOOM!
Cannonballs could be made from stone or iron the iron ones could have an optional recipe that includes gunpowder to make them explode on impact
As for the gunpowder that shoots the cannonball it could require a stack of 4 gunpowder to shoot the cannon
For the range it could be similar to that of a bow and have an arced shot like the bow as well
having to enter the cannon to load it would make it less overpowered so it wouldn't be like a dispenser hooked up to redstone continously shooting once turned on as for the destructive power it could be a stone cannonball can shoot through 3 blocks and iron can go through 6 blocks and the exploding iron would leave a crater the same size as tnt of course none of the cannonballs would affect obsidian
Crossbow recipe could be wood block in bottom middle for stock.
3 pieces of sting in middle row.
Two iron ingots on either side of a stick at the top row.
The advantages of a crossbow over bow would be...
Higher damage.
Quickly shoot while not having to break a sprint exit thus mobs won't catch up like when drawing a bow.
Less arrow drop
Arrows won't bounce off mobs.
Maybe add grappling hooks?
Some disadvantages would be...
Having to slow to bow drawing speed during lengthy reload making it a bad choice if there's no cover.
Recipe requires player to have iron making it later game than normal bow.
Less useful enchantments.
Bolts require iron instead of flint? Recipe for bolts could be iron over feather?

I put my shirt on one leg at a time, just like everybody else.
I also forgot to mention...
What about more armour?
If there were horns I would suggest a horn in the two to corners of the helmet recipe.
A two or one more piece of resource in the middle of the helmet for full face helmet.
A stylish feather in the middle top of the helmet for swishy feathers( the feathers could possibly be dyed after to distinguish between teams for PVP matches.
Iron on shoulders of leather armour recipe for reinforced leather armour( same idea with toes of boots, top of helmet and knees of pants.
Last but not least arrows and hotbar equipped weapons will show on your character.

Also, pitchforks would be a cool weapon, so would staffs.
Well I mentioned a bao staff... Although a gnaled staff that a wizard or mage would have would be interesting as well.
Someone mentioned grappling hooks, now that is something I wouldn't mind seeing although technically that is not really a weapon, but more of a tool...hmm...
