Alright, Star Wars fans, I know you all love the lightsabers because you can attack people and the make noise. But what if they were in Xbox edition? It would be a fun way to prank some people, right? I bet you're thinking, "Yeah, it would!" So let's do this thing for the people!!!
the post seems a little played up, but i could definitely see it in a skin/texture/mashup setting, but unlikely as a separate item to add in. im all for star wars content in minecraft though, just not item-wise. however, the first mashup they released was scifi and they seem to be going more for video games. not trying to totally shoot down the idea, just trying to inject some reality
This has "I'm new to the Internet" and "I will defend myself against negative criticism with my youngness" written all over it.
Uhh....*Ahem* Light sabres don't fit into the theme of Minecraft much at all. We live in a world with bows, axes, and sword. Having a beam of pure energy--or whatever it is--is completely out-of-place.
Also, this greatly lacks detail:
How is it made?
Damage dealt?
Durability?
Why should this be implemented?
Copyright issues?
You can't just take something from another franchise and throw it into a game. Maybe if a texture/Mash-up pack were made for Star Wars, then yeah, light sabre sword.
Other than that, no support. You should click on my signature and take some time to read up on how to post suggestions--it'll help you.

Yes, this would not fit into the game at all, but the game's time period is still kind of messed up. "We live in a time period with bows, axes, and swords" you must also keep in mind that we live in a minecraft world with nothing more advanced than a bow but also in a world with electricity. Those two things don't go together. Muskets would fit well into the game tho. But still, no support either. But also with the copyrights thing, you could add something that is essentially a lightsaber and call it something else to elude copyright issues. Like you could make something that looks like a light saber but call it like a laser sword.
I think the closest thing we could hope for and even then it's a long shot but combining a sword with Coal and Flint and steel to create a sword that is on fire temporarily which could also be used as a light source.
I don't think it would make the same sound effects though hmm.

Umm... how bout you just leave that to 4J and Mojang?
It's just a suggestion. If the creators want this, it will pretty much entirely be up to them to decide ultimately what everything should be.
Why does a thesis need to be written in order for you to have a legitimate reason to support it or not? That's what forums are for, to discuss the idea and mold together other ideas from the original post to come up with something....
While I agree with what you say to a point.. such as it would be out of place, but it could also be like a skin idea instead of a separate item like Blessed_Crafter said.

I'm all for retexturing different types of swords as different color light sabres in a Star Wars Themed mash-up pack, and bows could be retextured as blasters, instead of a bow drawing animation, you could have a light bar charge level indicator on the blaster to show when the blaster is at full power to fire. Arrows, when fired, can be blaster bolts, but after striking and in inventory, they can look like charge clips for the blaster itself.
Zombies/Skeletons could be 2 different types of Storm Troopers, Spiders could be some sort of droid/mechanized vehicle.
Anyway, just some thoughts... I'd definitely support a star Wars Mash Up Pack... Wouldn't mind seeing a Death Star on the Horrizon, or maybe some walkers in the distance.

Different phases could be different angled views of the Death Star... like you could watch it slowly turn toward you and then away again as each day passes.
OMG.... I'm sold. Stars Wars mash-up. Or a skin pack. With a mash-up maybe they could add new sounds. Why wasn't this the first thing added to Minecraft Xbox 360 edition? It should have been added before the 360 edition was even thought of. Before Minecraft was even thought of...

Oh yeah I would buy that immediately lol.
Have the light sabers be different colours based on what grade they are.
Say, leather is red, iron is green, and diamond obviously blue.

no support, star wars is a game with space ships, should something from that game, go in a game where every thing is made out of blocks?
First of all my good sir, Star Wars is not a game but a film franchise created by George Lucas that lifted this country back to its feet during a time of despair. And secondly, Star Wars is one of the greatest themes to be added to any media. In fact, I'll dare to say that Minecraft should be so lucky. And would probably have to go through a whole bunch of legal stuff to do it anyway...

They do... that's called "merchandising" off the Film Franchise... There are many many many books, games, tee-shirts, posters, action figures, coffee mugs, comics, animations, etc. based off this Epic Film Franchise...

Have the Moon be the death star xD
That's no Moon.... That's a Space Station!!! LOL

That'd be awesome.
Armour could be... crazy cool too
Bad idea overall.
I Do agree on the mash-up though

The golden age: it's not the game, it's you ⋆ Why Minecraft should not be harder ⋆ Spelling hints
Well looks like I broke the rules not long ago...
I'll keep that in mind for next time.
:/
But it's related :/
Starwars is where lightsabers came from lol.
