i know what redstone is! it's powdered blood from the heart of Lorkhan. plain and simple. so really, pistons and lamps run off of god scabs. elder scrolls. now we can all agree. but back to the fence issue....

so what do you think the chances are of them making barbed wire?
Honestly... Probably not that good.
I think it's a brilliant idea, as it could be stronger than cacti, and you could put it in a strait line for as long as your materials can supply, and my idea would of course be like real life barbed wire, where it faces outside (or inside depending how you place it).
But I haven't seen the creators really put something that useful in.
The things that everyone wants to have due to its usefulness, they never seem to add.
An example is I really want redstone blocks, and horses (NOT carrot on a stick for riding a pig, it's useless. they're too slow and I don't see the purpose) so I could compact my redstone, and perhaps get to places faster without having to ride a minecart.

if they're spacing out releases to be like pc, redstone block will probably be in the feature update after TU 14(assumed as a feature update)
is that a reference to disc world and the color of magic?
No it is a reference to Red vs Blue.By light without electricity, I want something that is safe to put in people's homes that will not hurt them or damage the house. And no lava does not fall under that category. Also saying redstone is not electricity is like saying minecraft water is not water. They are both the game's version of something that exists in real life.

Again... that is your opinion, and you are entitled to it. I find there are more dissimilarities to electricity than there are similarities, so I disagree.
...It is nowhere near electricity, but is compared somewhat because of currents. Redstone is a binary of currents, you wouldn't know that, because you are too busy creating flame topics and then throwing in your opinion after you just asked a question. Redstone is one of the most original ideas created in sandbox.
Redstone is magic. It functions somewhat like electricity, only because there is no plausible way to actually make electricity in this game, so Notch made redstone.
Redstone isn't ELECTRICITY. It is BINARY. BINARY only has 2 states: ON or OFF. It is NOT ELECTRICITY. ELECTRICITY needs a source of power; Redstone doesn't. Notch coded BINARY into the game, and even then, he wasn't unoriginal; Binary systems in games is something that only a few people have tought of, and Notch is one of those people.
Second, REDSTONE ISN'T AN ELECTRICITY RIPOFF! It's a physical representation of binary, the language that computers use.... If you really can't see how electricity and Redstone are different, I'm concerned.
and on... and on... and on...
There's actually far fewer responses for redstone actually being specifically electricity in the game as there is against it.
Apologies, and you're right....back to the topic at hand... Barbed wire:
I like the idea/support. It could drastically slow a person/MOB down while they take damage (like walking through lava...but without the catching on fire part).
Well that is one argument against the people that dont want it thinking minecraft is in the distant past. If you don't see eye to eye on that, there are also pistons and TNT. Minecraft is at least in the mid 1800's and there is no argument against it.
Wait hold on a second. When a piston is in the pushing position, it is called powered. There are also powered rails. The word powered indicates that there is electricity is flowing through it.If players and mobs can get through it, then that defeatsthe point of them. It should be more like cactus.

I agree.
I can see advantages to the cobweb style form of barbed wire.. But yeah people can walk through it.
My intention was to have it be like a wall. And players would of course find a way to come through it by mining it with something. Unless they decided to make it so that you couldn't mine it from the barbed wire side, and had to do it on the opposite side of the fence (so it's indestructible) I think people would find a way.

Actually 'powered' implies 'powered', YOU are interpreting it as electrical, while I'M interpreting it as magical, in this case.
If I said that an old style wind mill was wind-powered... no electricity at all... all moving parts.... or a water mill powered by water current, similarly not electrical
If I said that a plant's growth was powered by solar energy... again not electrical.
If I said that the tides were powered by the gravitational pull of the moon in it's orbit about the earth... again, not electrical.
Magic is a prevalent component in this game (via potions and enchanting), why is it so hard to believe that something can be magically powered?
As a suggestion, you should probably start a new thread to suggest an electric fence idea, instead of trying to hi-jack the barbed wire suggestion and turn it into an electric fence suggestion.
For all of those things, powered is not the right word for them. For the windmill one, you would say that wind is propelling it not powering it. For the plant one, you would say that the sun fuels it. For the tides one, you would say that it is caused by the pull of the moon, not powered by the pull of the moon.

Yes, there's hope! Lol
aww....
lol..

Others have disagreed as well: From: IS REDSTONE JUST ELECTRICITY?

"electricity starts fire. a-hyuck-hyuck."
but yeah that's why i like the idea of a grey cobweb design
I agree.

According to : http://dictionary.re...wse/powered?s=t
I have correctly used it in a sentence.
pow-ered
[pou-erd]
adjective
(of a machine, vehicle, etc.) having a specified fuel or prime mover: a gasoline-powered engine; an engine-powered pump.
**** Note: the definition says nothing about electricity or electronic circuitry specifically.
