With the trouble you can go through to get a fish.. such as.. fish don't gnaw on the hook as quick as you want it to so just getting the fish can be timely... then you have to cook it which is more timely.. and after all that it only gives you two hunger bars back.
It should be able to give more hunger bars back when you eat cooked fish.
As well.. make it so we can enchant a fishing rod. Maybe when you enchant it.. you can have things such as
-Catch II. That would make it so you can reel in more than one fish at a time
-Unbreaking I. Fishing Rod lasts longer before it breaks.
Perhaps even different kinds of fish, or make us able to make Sushi when combined with grass or something.
I agree that cooked fish should have the same hunger value as the other cooked meats in the game (which would make it restore 4 pops). I don't have a problem, however, with the current rate at which the fish bite and can usually catch quite a few in a relatively short period of time. Also, you can fish in almost any size of water pool, so you can set yourself up to fish in perfect safety even throughout the night. I find that many players simply do not think of fishing; but if the player remembers to use it, it can be a great survival food source. I do like the idea of having the ability to enchant a fishing rod though.
Yes, I think that cooked fish should be 3 hunger (since its not as good as steak) but you can enchant the fishing rod (I specially liked the enchantment catch ll)
The Catch enchantment is a cool idea but Unbreaking seems unnecessary. How hard is it to just make another fishing rod? It's 3 sticks and 2 string. Very cheap.
Yeah i was just trying to put in more ideas for enchanting. Couldn't think of anything else lol.

Well, like I said, it is very tedious to get fish cause sometimes you have to do like 5 casts before you can get one fish.. and yeah you can do it throughout the night... But you can spend half hour or more getting only 10-20 fish.. and have it be used up in almost the same time cause it only gives you two hunger bars back... With all the work you need to get cooked fish and have it be a reliable source.. you're wasting more time than just going out into the forest day or night to kill a few cows or something.
Makes fishing not worth it...
On that note though.. they do need to make food improvements in general. Some are super convenient and some are super inconvenient... such as fish.

FYI - Cooked fish currently restores 3 hunger bars (not just 2). Increasing it would bring it to 4 hunger bars (the same as steak). I can easily catch 5 fish in 3 minutes out of a 2 x 2 infinite water source near my mob grinder... while also catching the other mob drops. No time wasted at all. Hunger used in that time = less than 1 bar. (Because of this post, I specifically timed myself tonight and double checked the hunger both used and restored).

There should be a very small chance that you catch a big fish. And when you catch a big fish you have to repeatedly tap left trig to real it in. The big fish would give more hunger bars than the other fish. I'd say stats should look something like this:
Big fish-Food item
Hunger filled:
-raw 2
-cooked 5
Chance of catching 7.5%
Fish nets or traps would be cool, you could set them all up come back a little while later and see what they caught. Perhaps 6 sticks, 1 string and 1 iron bar to craft. I like the enchanting idea. Someone asked why do you even want to fish, I want to fish because I can... In all reality the speed of fishing is pretty quick, you ever fish for five minutes and catch five in real life? I think if you want to catch more faster it has to be nets or traps.
You have a better chance of catching fish in the rain, supposedly.
The game does spawn "bites" more frequently in the rain. What really makes a difference with whether or not you get fish in accordance with the "bite" rate is timing when you reel in the line. It just takes some practice and some patience not to reel in the line when there is no bit on the line. If fishing in a small pool of water, it also takes quite a bit of practice to learn how to cast the line so that the bobber doesn't snag on any solid blocks and, thereby, reducing the rod's durability more quickly.
Errors in the original post aside, I do support the enchanting idea (including an unbreaking enchantment), as well as increasing the food value of fish (which is a great real life source of protein so I think it should be on par with steak). I just don't think the spawn rates the game provides need to be increased (i.e. According to the Wiki, they are roughly 1 fish every 15 seconds in the rain and 1 fish every 25 seconds otherwise; and my own catch rate seems to verify that the Xbox Edition is adhering to those same rates at the PC.) With a little practice, it just should not take anyone 1/2 hour to catch 10 fish from any sized water pool.

You ever eaten 5 whole fish and become hungry again in 10 minutes?? Didn't think so.
I get what you're saying but this isn't real life.. it's Minecraft.
Fish can be a good way to get food. I mean, long as you can create a really good wheat harvester it's better than anything really. But when you DO fish.. I think it needs to be more "worth it".

If the consoles continue to follow the PC model, then fishing rod enchantments will become available, other types of fish will become available, some needed for potions, and also the possibility of getting 'junk' / stuff / treasures snagged while fishing (like armor and tools).

I ate 1 cooked fish at 4 bars down and was only 1 bar down after eating it.

I don't get it.
The only time I'll fish is to get me a cat.
