I mean, I don't understand why you can't put redstone on it. All you are doing is spilling powder on it, what, are you suddenly unable to do that with glass?

See, a few minutes ago, you were like "I don't ever want this and you will never get my support" now look at you. You support it. We can overturn people.

took a long time, but still minutes ago it wasn't a good idea to me

I don't understand why you can't put anything on glass almost.. you can't put beds.. you can't put torches.. it's stupid. I mean. YOu can technically put beds on it.. You just have to place it on blocks then replace the blocks underneath it with glass. But torches you can't.
Wow.... I see a lot of : "No purpose for this, don't support."
I keep thinking to myself... Minecraft is a sandbox game to create worlds and build projects... here are a few things on my list of "No Purpose" for a game with this design in mind:
Potions
Enchantments
Red Stone
MOBs
Survival Mode
The Nether
The End
Crafting Interface
Crafting Table
Food/Hunger
Drowning
Health
Weapons/Armor/Tools
Poison
Paintings
Item Frames
Maps
hrmmm... the list goes on... and on... and on....
None of these have a real 'purpose' for a sandbox building game.
I feel the purpose of making suggestions is to 'enhance' the game and the Player's overall experience not to have a 'purpose' for every little thing.
I actually really like this idea, and I think it can enhance a lot of build designs. It is easy to implement and to code (most of the code needed is already built into the redstone dust algorithms anyway).
BTW: Redstone doesn't cause lag, having multiple block updates and lighting changes occur causes Lag. If you give continuous power to a redstone line, it doesn't create any more lag than any other block, but if you connect it to a switch and turn it on and off repeatedly, or changing piston states repeatedly... now it is generating lag.
I don't think the lighting should be 15 (maximum) or even 14 or 13, but rather 12 for the dust. this is in alignment of 4 piles of dust to make 1 glowstone block that has a light output of 15, where the first pile starts at a base lighting of 12 and each additional pile raises the luminosity by 1 point to the full brightness of the glowstone block itself.

Yeah I was mostly thinking just a faint glow. Like I said I personally think it would look great on Spruce and Jungle Wood.
Maybe half as bright or a quarter as bright as a block of glowstone. And yeah.. I'm surprised so many disliked this idea..... It's about being a decoration mostly. People love ways to make their houses look better than just plain old house.
It didn't take off at the time... Probably because there wasn't so many people I knew on here that couldn't really criticize it within reason like you or Kaiju
You could attach it to a stick. An interesting alternative if you haven't got any coal or charcoal.
If you have glowstone dust before you have coal and/or charcoal... you're probably doing something wrong.... but I do like the alternative torch/lighting idea.

Not too faint of a glow... I was originally thinking half, like you, then I started thinking that light drops off by 1 per (air/transparent) block it travels through, and hostile MOBs can spawn in areas of 7 or less illumination... so if you cut glowstone's 15 in half to 7 or 8, that would mean that most hostile MOB's could spawn as close as 2 blocks away from the dust (7 illumination or less), and you wouldn't be able to use it to stop blazes at all anyway (they spawn in illumination 11 or less).

Yeah... Maybe similar to say.... a Redstone Torch just glowstone instead? In terms of brightness?
Well... that (7) would be 0.5 less than half a Glowstone block (15)... so if that's what you wanted. It couldn't be used to prevent hostile MOBs from spawning anywhere around it. I was suggesting something closer to the illumination of a Nether Portal (11).

Oh okay got it.
Yeah sure why not. It'd be bright enough to really give off a good glow, etc. Good to know. In my head I keep picturing it almost as bright as normal glowstone, but I know that probably wouldn't work entirely.. based on peoples opinions probably.
But I remember picturing this sort of thing on a giant jungle tree.
i say make it the same light level as torches 14, but allow it to be mixed with a dye and glow some color It still produces normal light (ie not colored light cause thats very complex to do code wise), but the torch itself will look ie green if you use glowstone, lime dye and a stick.

Even permanent decorative lighting.. it'd be great.
and a bonus support if it possible reactive to a switch (for a real on off lighting).
Yeah. I think this.. on things like Spruce and Jungle wood would look awesome.
A glass dome I've seen with glowstone blocks. I think it'd be interesting if it were glowstone dust as well.

A glowstone torch??? Hey not a bad idea. Lol

Redstone Torch Light Level (when on) = 7

Okay. So.. agreed? Disagreed? Whatever? Lol

But I remember picturing this sort of thing on a giant jungle tree.
Example:
Full Luminosity = Glowstone block.
Unpowered = lowest (quarter) luminosity
Redstone Torch powered = full luminosity
Redstone Repeater powered:
1 tick = quarter luminosity (same as Unpowered)
2 tick = half luminosity
3 ticks = 3 quarter luminosity
4 ticks = Full Luminosity
With this we would not make Redstone Lamps obsolete and at the same time give us a whole lot more options in lighting up our builds.
Just a thought.
