I think I agree with Kain here. What I put in the original post was just a starter list of a quick brain storm. There are hundreds of possibilities that could be included. The more the merrier. I wouldn't care if it took me an hour to set up a new game fiddling with options; I do the same thing when creating a Skyrim character. And if the rule sets could be shared via download, only one person would have to do the work and others could enjoy it.

100% support. This sounds freaking awesome.
But a few things to maybe add
Mob drop rairty! change the rarity of mob drops
hardcore mode ? make meat and leather only drop 2 % of the time (less than wither skeleton heads on pc)
It would all how deep you wanted to go into the system. If you wanted to create a really detailed game mode you could. With the changes you listed it would keep the list down in size, but would severely limit your creativity. Also, the thing about dirt to diamonds should be possible. If you want to have that setting then go ahead. It will take the fun out of the game but that's your choice. I think the way you would change the drop rates would be an interesting GUI. You would have a mob that you could click on, then you would open up a creative style menu where you could drag and drop an item. The crafting recipes I don't know about, I was just kind of throwing that out there. Other than that, it would be a fairly short list if you did some folder work. Or maybe just have a page for each mob where you can alter its statistics. Then a page for weather, a page for players, a page for world generation (i.e. the sea level, biomes, frequency of generated structures) and a page for altering crafting recipes. That would be fairly contained I think.
By the way, just because it wasn't in the original post doesn't mean I shouldn't have tried to build on it or change it a little. This was just my idea on what I would change to make it better in my own view. Yes, I know that it isn't MCedit but I was just saying that we could change what blocks generated in places of others. Making stuff like castles would be left to creative mode but doing something like converting the entire nether into a dimension of wool would be nearly impossible and very very time consuming.
My idea of how to reduce a cluttered GUI (Note: each "-" marks a new sub menu) (this is from my suggestion thread I made before realizing yours)
feel this game, even survival islands on hard difficulty, are a bit easy. So why not give us options on world creation to up or lower difficulty? All of these options would disable trophies for obvious reasons if used. a warning is displayed when you choose one of the sub menus . they are set to default before you edit them.
Options like : turning off natural regen so you can only heal from pots or golden apples (is a checkbox under host options labeled "Natural Regeneration"
Changing ore rarity
Changing what mobs spawn the most!
changing creeper explosion size and damage regardless of easy normal or hard mode
Edit how much meat/leather animals drop \ Add in options such as spawning with half health or 1 piece of hunger
add in foods that give different status effects like blindness -so poisonous potatoes do more than poison, they poison, give nausea, and blindness
make eating raw food more dangerous, -see above for possibilities
This is how the menu would look
More options -Difficulty -Mob spawns -creeper -rarity [insert sliding bar to change what percentage of mob spawns are this mob] -skeleton -rarity [insert sliding bar to change what percentage of mob spawns are this mob] -zombie -rarity [insert sliding bar to change what percentage of mob spawns are this mob] -mob damage -creeper -damage [insert sliding bar to change how much damage is dealt, maxes out at 5 hearts except for endermen , which are not modifiable in any options ] -skeleton -damage [insert sliding bar to change how much damage is dealt, maxes out at 5 hearts except for endermen , which are not modifiable in any options ] -zombie --damage [insert sliding bar to change how much damage is dealt, maxes out at 5 hearts except for endermen , which are not modifiable in any options ]

No. I don't want to support something that is completely different to what I had in mind. Would it really be so hard to just have a menu with all naturally spawning blocks (http://www.minecraftopia.com/natural_blocks) minus bedrock and then just be able to swap them with another block? I think that would be fairly easy.

Block Replacer

A check box by every biome to decide whether or not that biome spawns
Possibly the ability to switch biome colors?
Players
Player health

Lives
Spawn Point (would be a set of three coordinates but you couldn't have them spawn inside of a block )
Other general player related things
Time
How long a tick is
Day/Night Slider that determines how long each day and night is
Recipes
What recipes are available
What recipes make what
And that would be my list. I think it would be fairly contained and with the help of some interesting GUIs it would be really easy to set up and tweak. I also think that it would be the most balanced towards keeping it from being a huge list and the most customization possible.

That's a good start. I like the idea about replacing one block type with another. That could be a powerful tool that would drastically alter gameplay very quickly and could make for some interesting survival scenarios or just really unique maps the likes of which minecraft has never seen before.
- number of lives (deaths) the player is given before the world save deletes itself; this can be one life (hardcore), some integer, or infinite
I kind of don't want this. I feel like Hardcore would be better if, rather than deleting the world, you simply are sent back to the main menu. Your PROGRESS in survival is deleted, but the world remains, even in Creative mode. For example, if I'm playing on a world I've created for other players [towns, cities, etc. Adventure map] and I die in Hardcore mode, I would be pissed if I had to delete the world and everything I worked days and weeks, even months, on. By dying in Survival, your survival progress is deleted, but Creative progress will always remain.
Everything else, I like very much. Shame this will more than likely never make it into the game, as most suggestions on these forums nowadays, regardless if they're good or not.
I wish the developers listened to the requests of fans and actually answered them, positively or negatively, rather than just ignoring them and adding their own stuff in, when most fans actually think of things that would make the game better. The developers just add another animal or block and thinks it does better; fans think of new game modes and challenges that would increase replay value.
I wholeheartedly support your idea. It would greatly increase replay value because each game could be played in a different way every time, rather than just the same old "collect at day, hide at night" thing. Sure, I enjoy that aspect, but it'd be fun to experience either a Zombie Apocalypse or a Creeper Apocalypse, especially when you can decide how fast they come at you. Imagine a bunch of Creepers sprinting at you day and night.
I just hate the whole "you die in hardcore, your world is deleted" idea. It'd anger me if my game deleted my survival maps after testing them in hardcore. Months of work wasted.
I plan to create battledome maps in the future. I would want to be able to replace certain amounts of diamond blocks ore with iron blocks. So the world edit feature would be good for that.
However, with all these new options, and crazy changes to the game, how might minecraft or the Xbox handle it? Would there be lag, or overheating? If so, which features would you sacrifice?

I think that the Xbox could take it. It would probably take a really long time for the world to load the first time but after that I think that it would do alright. The problem would be trying to keep it from crashing the first time. If I had to sacrifice one then it would be my block replacement idea. That should free up everything but I think that it should be kept if possible.

Maybe that could be a setting too? In the game options setting it would be whether when you ran out of lives if the world was deleted or you just exit the game. Also, I understand that the developers are busy developing and what-not, but just some kind of response on the really good ideas would be nice. I mean, I have found several suggestions that have almost 1,000 supporters and they still go ignored. Some kind of response even if it's a "Sorry but we just can't add this due to x limitation it's a great idea though." or some kind of heads-up when they are. The Forged Swords suggestion got Anvils added! They even used the same model and no credit whatsoever is attributed to these guys! It's ridiculous.

To clarify, you would not have to re-create any rules of the game. All the vanilla minecraft values would be set as default and you would only have to change the specific variables you wanted to change. That goes for all recipes, spawn rates, drop rates, everything that the player would be given permission to change by 4J.
You made several good points SoulEmpire. Thanks for the response.
And I do realize some of the suggestions are more extreme or ambitious than others, but it doesn't hurt to share them; those ideas would just have to be lower priority, but still possible.

Can I just say how glad I am that this thread was revived? I think this is one of the best suggestions out there and I love it.
Anyway, yeah, some of these ideas would be pretty hard to implement but with a little bit of work it could probably be done. Also, Artifex91, if you will, I would make a reddit thread or whatever they're called because, for whatever reason, ideas are taken from there more often then here even though this is their forum that's dedicated to their game but whatever.

Then if you would want these world edit features, you should support the bacteria blocks (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1726536-bacteria/)
