Hey I have an idea on how to get infinite worlds, yes the xbox alone will never be able to host a minecraft world and have it be infinite. However I am not sure if it would be possible for 4j to make a server file application that anyone who has a computer and ram could open and use similar to the pc servers. If they were to add this, this could also possibly add plugins(not mods). I am not completely sure how an xbox could handle playing on a server hosted by a computer but I do know the computer hosting the server would be doing the main work the xbox/ps3 could not do because of lack of ram, if a computer were to be hosting the console minecraft server all the xbox would be doing is receiving and giving out information and loading and unloading chunks which the hosting computers ram would take care of the unloaded chunks. If 4j were to do something like this it could be very close to how pc server browsing and usage is. How is would work is they could create and code a console server which could be used by a windows, mac, linux computer and you would get your ip from the internet which is hosting the server and copy it down into a place on xbox and connect to the minecraft console server which is hosting the world and keeping the unloaded chunks saved by the ram which the computer would have. So pretty much this would be the alt to having infinite worlds because the xbox/ps wouldn't be taking the heat the computer would. The only problem I could see in this is it may be against some microsoft/sony rules that they would have. For instance they would need ways of making sure you are connected to xbox live before using connecting to the server or the possibility of having the server corrupt the console there are many flaws to my idea but I would like to know if it is possible to have external servers that you yourself could host.
That really wouldn't be likely to work like that, even if was not against Microsoft policy. What you are talking about sounds like a server. Servers would be possible, but near infinite would not be. It is just the way that the xbox loads things differently than the pc that makes that idea not feasible.
If you convert to the way pc does it, there are still issues with FPS being unstable, as that is how it is on the pc. They did a decent job in for the most part stabilizing the FPS best they could.
The xbox would still have to load the world into memory, as well things going on around the player. This might reduce some lag, but would still be like online play, since it would be based off of connection speed instead of what it is now in single player. This sort of reminds me of what Majong did in 1.3.1 changing so single & multiplayer are effectively loaded the same.
Before 1.3 single player would be great and smooth on quite a few older computers, but after it ended up having the same lag that multiplayer has. Sure the bonuses were easier on them for coding after doing that, but single player is in a way non existent. This is due to fact that single player runs like a server, but only has to keep track of 1 player.
Some older computers can barely run minecraft. The reason I put this up is due to the fact that xbox 360 is an older console and the hardware would not be able to keep it up for a good measure of time. At least not the way the pc version does things. there really isn't a way to get infinite worlds even on the pc, as the terrain breaks down after a certain point; hence old rumors/basis of farlands. Things just got strange after that point, as well unstable.
So in essence even this idea would not work in order to get near infinite terrain for the 360, due to it still has to process everything, and hold most of it in memory. Correct me if wrong, but that is roughly how it is. This all based on past threads on this very topic.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

i see however even if it was to not have infinite worlds the servers 4j already supplies us with like when you use the online option sucks there is very little ram dedicated to the servers and if they were to let us host our own servers we could leave them on and that would be better than how it is now. The online option is a server and honestly I see what you are saying but there is still a possibility of infinite worlds the problem with old computers is the graphics card the xbox 360 has a decent graphics card the problem is the ram which if we were to host it from a computer it would not be held on the xbox to supply ram but it would be up to the computer to supply the ram

it is computer basics if you know the basics of how a computer works this would be a bit easier to understand but ok lol
The Online Option lets you connect to another player's xBox360 and use that console AS a server... that's why those 'servers' suck at being servers. 4J does not supply any remote servers, they are all player consoles. That's why Tamorr said "even if was not against Microsoft policy", providing external servers for Minecraft is not allowed under the Terms of Service, probably because it would allow users to share maps, which is definitely not allowed.

I'm pretty sure almost no server can be hosted on an xbox it is all connection lag if it were to be hosted on the console without lag that is pretty good. if the servers were to be hosted on the xbox itself it could easily render receiving a server hosted by a computer but yeah it would go against allot of the terms of use that 4j can do
(07) How will servers work? You can set your game to invite only and you can invite friends, or your friends can join your game randomly.
I suppose you can disagree if you want... but the fact of the matter is that if any online game is started on XBLA, if the Game's Host's XBox360 looses connection or otherwise shuts the game down, the game halts for everyone. You can test it out if you want, but the Hosting Player's XBox360 IS the Server for all the players, and each player (including the Host) is also running as Client as well.

ok if that is true the xbox can handle allot more than i had expected if it is the server host with the good frame rate it is getting I'm sure it would be much better with a computer hosting the server thats just my opinion though... but then again with a personal computer hosting the server you would have more ram which would fix the lag. however it all goes into 1 giant hole if microsoft has something against it in the terms of use, which 4j could look into changing if they wanted to.

I don't dispute that if you move over half the game processing requirements to a dedicated remote server that there wouldn't be an improvement in performance, that goes without saying... and since the current PC/Java code already supports that, it would have been far easier for them to do from a conversion (from Java to C++) standpoint (in fact, if you look at the history of posts, it looks like 4J was toying with that very idea early on in the original design and implementation process)... but until there is a change in the Microsoft Terms of Service with 4J, that just isn't going to happen. It sucks, but chalk it up to politics.

however this can't be done with xbox is it possible for ps3? i mean they have allot of different terms of uses but then again this is for mc xbox but still if they were to update one of the consoles they usually update them both with the same features. i think microsoft is changing some terms of uses as you have seen in the past update tu14 they removed the waiting approval message on the signs which before swearing on a sign was not allowed online as one of the terms of use but that changed so i think 4j should try something because honestly i love playing on the console version but i just don't want to buy an xbox 1 just to play mc

I don't believe you need an XBone to play minecraft on an xbox.

Is it possible to run through a remote server for the Sony PS platform? I don't know... maybe...depending on ToS agreements with Sony, but like you pointed out, 4J is going to want to keep the core code somewhat unified across consoles, and while they might change variables between consoles due to their capabilities (spawn caps, world map sizes, render distance, number of players aloud online per game, etc.), they are probably not going to implement radically different bits of programming code more than absolutely necessary to handle the hardware differences (controllers and other console specific interfaces).

true after all this i think i will probably just download mods to use an xbox controller for my laptop to play minecraft pc....
Early on 4J did try say they were "looking into" dedicated servers for Minecraft X360 and talking with Microsoft about it, but these talks obviously did not go anywhere...at least so far... for a number of different reasons. As others have pointed out, Minecraft doesn't run so well on numerous PCs, so I think one has to give some credit to 4J for getting MC3360 to run as well as it does in both single and multiplayer on 10-year-old hardware tech and with 1/4 the RAM of the recommended specs for the PC version and even on several consoles with no hard drives out there. I still think limiting the world size was the right choice. Infinite worlds do not solve things like climate change and the resources in the areas near the player's home base are still likely to get depleted... forcing the player to go farther and farther afield anyway in order to get those resources and in order to get the newer stuff that was added to the game after the world was created. Many would seem to prefer that over just archiving an old build in an old file and starting afresh with a new theme... but I'm just the opposite. I LIKE starting new worlds with a clean slate.
Um. It's impossible to have an infinite world in general... Even on the PC. If you walk in one direction long enough, you will eventually find that "never ending" sea on the PC version and will be unable to move any further than that.
It's just the PC maps are extremely big.Oh and about running Minecraft on Xbox 360... Gotta remember, Xbox 360 doesn't have all the extra bullcrap which a PC runs. My Xbox 360 runs the X360 version of Minecraft like a boss while my PC is crap at it and I do have a PC from 2004 currently which has 512MB RAM, single core, etc... (And it runs Minecraft good enough for me to play it but it still sucks)... Just saying.
Note: I am working on getting a new computer so don't bother me about that!

Infinite worlds... no it is infinite on pc because A. it is literally impossible to get to the end of the world by walking so in survival it is pronounced impossible so yes they are limited but very big making it seem unlimited to the point of where you wouldn't notice.

The thng is... "big enough" (for you - the point at which it becomes "impossible to get to the end") is different for everyone. For me, the current Xbox 360 size is definitely big enough and I've not exhausted all the possibilities in a single world of them yet despite having already played untolled hours in some of them. The Xbox One worlds are going to be significantly larger... but for some this will not be enough. In fact, no matter where 4J sizes the console worlds and no matter how many good reasons they have had for changing the way the chunks load and unload on the console, some people are just so married to the idea of "infinite" worlds on the PC that there is absolutely no way they will ever back down from this argument. They are absolutely determined to be unsatisfied; so, unfortunately, they will be ever unsatisfied and have robbed themselves of enjoying a great version of the game for two years already and counting. Sad, really.
