So, as many of you might know, on the computer version, there are Horses and Donkeys. If you add a chest to a donkey, you can store stuff on it. My suggestion is that when they go to add Horses to the Xbox edition of Minecraft, they add Covered Wagons.
The crafting recipe would be simple. You'd need two chests, four planks, and 3 wool.
[W] [W] [W]
[P] [C] [C]
[P] [P] [P]
W: Wool
P: Planks
C: Chest
When you use this on a Horse, or Cow, you get a Covered Wagon that stores two inventories.
As for appearance, it could look like a boat with a chest inside, covered in wool. Historically, covered wagons were made to resemble boats on the bottom. This was so they could cross rivers with ease.
I also suggest that Covered wagons not be able to cross deep water (3 blocks or more). If you attempt this, it would break. When crossing streams, there would be a small chance of it (the wagon) breaking. This would be because when pioneers would cross rivers, they would sometimes sink or flip over.
When you break a wagon, it drops as the items used to make it, and, if there was anything stored in it, the stored items.
I'd like to hear peoples opinions and suggestions, so, please, leave a comment!
I have been thinking if this is a good idea for like, 10 minutes, and I'm undecided.
Quick Question: If your wagon sinked under water, would the items in your chest disappear?
Personally, you shouldn't make this type of suggestion since horses and donkey's aren't in the game yet. However, even if they DID have horses and donkeys, I don't think it's needed, but if it was added, it would be fine by me. If it wasn't, it would be fine by me. I don't really care, it's not needed, but its not a bad idea either.
If the wagon broke in the water, the items would be dropped just the same. They'd sink to the bottom where you could pick them up. As for this suggestion being a bit early, I agree. Since horses and donkeys aren't in Xbox version yet, I was hesitant as posting this, however, I wanted to post it as a suggestion for the future update, and hopefully, before anyone else did.
The mules on the computer version already hold 1 chest, so, the wagon would be an upgrade. However, you are right. While this isn't a needed update, it's still (in my opinion) a pretty good idea that would be useful. It could help move bases or be useful for adventure maps.
Interesting idea, what do you suggest for the size of the wagon? Anything outside of 1.5-2 blocks wide by 2-3 blocks long and 2-3 blocks tall would seem disproportionate when compared against a horse (IMO)
Would it require 1 or 2 horses to hitch to the wagon before moving it? How do you envision it handling uneven terrain (going up or down hill, traversing a hill at an angle or sideways on a sloped surface)?
I was thinking something along the lines of a block wide, 1.5 blocks tall, 2 blocks long. I think 1 horse would be enough to pull a small wagon like this, and in terms of game mechanics, I imagine it working just like a mine cart on a sloped track. As for your recipe, I like it. It would allow for more organized transport. I also had an idea for a different recipe. What if they add new items completely? Such as a Wagon Wheel, Wagon Cover, Wagon Axle That could allow for more detailed crafting.
Wagon Wheel

The body could just be an actual boat.
You would assemble the Cover, Boat, and Axel on top one another in the crafting menu, giving you a Covered Wagon.
Then, you mount the chests to the wagon much like the PC's mule.
Minecraft reminds me alot of an early frontier, as simple as that sounds. Living off the land and shaping the landscape. It's like witnessing the birth of Minecraft as a nation, lol!
I think that the wagon would be great in resources, so it should be slower, not to make the minecart obsolete. I think half speed. You sacrifice speed for ease of access. Until you get the iron, gold, and Redstone for a minecart system, this could be helpful to early worlds.

Must have taken you ages to type lol.
Uhh... I like the suggestion for the most part. Just hopefully it won't be a land version of the boat. Because if it were I'd be put into anger management from how many times it shatters from running over a tree root or something.
Yea, posting for me is being a pain. I'm using a mobile device to access the forum, since my internet isn't hooked up yet.
As for the fragileness of the boat, I agree. Maybe if we follow the same recipe, but use wood blocks instead of planks?

This would add to the idea of durability to the wagon, also, you could then make them with each type of tree, making for a customizable wagon. I think the default Cover color should be white, but it could be dye-able.

If you have separate recipes that make up the covered wagon recipe, I'd suggest those things (Axles and wheels) are also used for something else too so it's not their sole purpose. I'm sure something else with wooden wheels could be made similar to this.
