I'm sure this idea has been posted before, but I just wanted to make sure.
What if we could choose which mobs spawn while on any difficulty (above Peaceful.)
In the menu, when host mode is enabled, there would be a check box that reads "Mob Spawn" that, when selected, opened into a drop down check box with each hostile mob in it.
While in the Overworld, it would have Zombies, Creepers, Slime, Skeletons, Silverfish, and Endermen. In the Nether, it would have Magma Cubes, Ghasts, Zombie Pigmen and Blazes. In the End it would have Endermen.
When Host Mode is enabled, each check box would be checked by default. When you click it, removing the check, this prevents that mob from spawning.
I believe this idea could be very helpful for adventure maps, such as a Zombie Survival map.
It has the potential to be more practical than a placeable Mob Spawner (such as ones found in dungeons) due to the fact you don't have to be near a specific area to benefit from it.
Please feel free to leave suggestions and comments below, I would love feedback.
EDIT1: Since this would be in host mode, I'd like to remind you of the fact it would turn off all achievements and leader board scores for that specific world. (Thanks, THUNDERB0LTZ, for help clarifying)
EDIT2: Instead of a check box, when you select a mob, you would get a slider with a number value from 0.0-1.0. Increasing or decreasing the value would raise or lower the spawn rate of the selected mob. (Thanks, Apathy and GregNelson for the improved ideas!)

This has been suggested multiple times in the forum... the search bar can help you find the other threads. However, like I have in all the other threads, I totally support the idea. Would you suggest that toggling also removes you from leaderboard stats? Also, it would be reallyyyyy easy to fight the enderdragon with all endermen turned off lol but some people may like that. I would really just love to turn off the creepers... hate those things.
I suggest that it be placed under the host mode. When you enable host mode, you are removed from leaderboard stats and achievements. As for the Enderdragon without Endermen, that can already be done. If you enter the End on Peaceful, the Enderdragon will still spawn, but there will be no Endermen. Also, thank you for the support! (and for teaching me how to search the forums, I'm new to the site!)
I'd disable everything but creepers to see how long I'd survive.
With this being said, the spawn rate wouldn't be touched. So think of
It like a normal minecraft on hard except, replace all mobs with creepers.
Actually, I believe that might cause a bit of an issue. If this gets added to Minecraft, I would suggest that the make it so each mob has a Spawn Value. The Spawn rate with all boxes checked off would be normal. But when you remove a mob from play, the spawn rate of all other mobs would be lowered, but only by a bit. This would be to prevent a horde of creepers from blowing everything up and causing lag and gameplay issues. However, I do like the idea of a creeper survival mode. Lots of water and obsidian would be needed.... I might try my hand at that on the current version and just use spawn eggs on my victims. I mean, Friends!

I think a slide bar to adjust the overall spawn caps would be a better solution to meet your needs, I personally, like Apathy, would not want the overall hostile MOB spawn rates lowered if any particular MOB's frequency was lowered.
GregNelson, that's actually a pretty good idea. But i don't think the slide bar should exceed a certain point. I imagine x2 spawn rate would be reasonable, without pushing it. Maybe when you check the box to edit a mob spawn, it would have a number value that you can adjust. Like the volume. From 0 to 2.0. Increasing steadily?
I'd like more feedback, thank you guys! It's helping me improve my idea.

Obviously... however, I wasn't thinking of increasing it above the caps currently set to the game, as this could cause some game glitching issues if MOBs surpassed the console's memory management capabilities... although it might be able to handled a bit more MOB's than it currently does now, but rather to allow the current caps to be reduced so that users can scale it back if they really want to.
Yea, I guess I misunderstood. I revised the post. The way it is now, we would be able to turn mobs off or down (therefore increasing the likelihood for other mobs to spawn.) Without changing the overall mob spawn rate.
