I'm a little irritated by not being able to recycle glass in areas where I need remove a glass bock or window or something, and I was reading a fairly recent locked thread and had an idea to propose:
If breaking glass panes drops 1 pile of glass shards, and breaking glass blocks dropped 3 piles of glass shards.
Then allow 4 piles of glass shards on a crafting table (in 2x2 formation) to form a cracked glass block, which can then be smelted in the furnace to remake new glass blocks similar to how sand is smelted in a furnace to make glass.
This has about the same loss ratio as breaking glowstone and putting the glowstone dust back together to make a new glowstone block, so a player can't use it to 'magically' create more glass, but at least there isn't as much loss when breaking glass blocks and panes.
If/when colored/stained glass gets implemented, this method could be used to 'purify' the colored/stained glass back to a clear state.

I've been wondering why they haven't put this in since I started playing this... Cause.. for those worlds that seem to be lacking heavily in sand... It could prove useful.
Is something like this available in the vanilla PC version? If not, that's great innovative thinking.
I agree.
If it is... I'm not aware of it, I tend to just play the MCX360 version and don't really look at the PC side very much... that may change as I get my son more up to speed on Java programming, but for right now, he's still struggling with learning the basic concepts of programming in general.
Would be nice to have so those who don't have silk touch can at least get some of the glass back. But for those who need lots of sand look up a redstone device called a sand generator. It works with gravel too but there isn't much use for gravel.
What I'd really like to see in terms of new glass items are stairs and slabs. I'd like to see the same for glowstone as well.

broken glass?...didnt i make that a "feature" of TU 14?lol itd be cool for mosaic windows when we get colored glass.
Upside Down Wood Block; it's better than a Sideways Wood Block, it's Upside Down. This block is truly unique and can be used in a variety of ways for you to decide.
Ender Bed; much like the Ender Chest, you can sleep safely across all dimensions and in any Ender Bed.
Sideways Ladders; for when up and down just wont do.
Tree Roots; because we never thought to look under the trees we punch. Broken Glass; better than stained glass and lets in a great breeze.
Quick Sand; looks just like regular sand so watch out.

Who cares about the PC.... They're always going to have more stuff than we could ever even come close to.
This is xbox we're talking here. lol.

Yeah, I suppose you did in your second spoiler for blocks (amusing read, I highly recommend it):
