Dog name tags would be just like player name tags this would help a lot if you have multiple dogs.
To name the dog you would have to feed it a bone and you can change the name as many times you want as long as you have a bone to give the dog. This would really help because I like to keep track of my dogs
Tell me what you think
Edit: I was also thinking of maybe adding death messages for dogs to cause I hate when one of my dogs go missing I don't know what happened to them. Just thought it would be helpful
The PC version has Name Tags already which allow you to name any mob, so I suspect they may make it to the Xbox version in the future (although I really couldn't care less about them; kind of a lame addition to the game imo). The ability to dye a dog's collar is also a feature implemented on the PC version, so it's safe to assume 4J might include it in the 360 version. Dyeing a dog's collar makes more sense anyway, and would more efficient than having to use the Microsoft text feature every time you wanted to name a dog.
I would prefer the name tags rather than dyeing the collars. It's just easier to have the name display when you're playing with different friends in different worlds on different Xbox where people have different names for their dogs. That way, you will be able to use their dogs names when you're telling them what a pain their dogs are being or when one decides to go aggro on you and you have to kill it.
Yesterday I was on my way to class, when a black cat fell from the sky. I didn't really know what that nonsense was about so I asked him if I could step around him because he was bad luck, but he simply meowed and then disappeared. I was a bit worried that maybe he'd teleported to Afghanistan or somewhere equally dangerous, but a wizard came and assured me that it was alright. I threw my Zune at him because I was 78% sure he was lying. The wizard roared at me and sentenced my mother to thirty five years of chain smoking. I was sad.

Why not both? A lot of people I play with love this idea as well. I definitely would like this too! +1

What if I were trying to just tame a wolf, and they thought I pushed to give the dog a bone twice and they though I wanted to name it? What if I had one dog? What if I can't stop saying what if?..............

I would imagine, that once you tamed it, the game would open an interface to allow you to name it at that time, which you could cancel out of or opt to name the dog at that time. In order to bring it up again in the future to rename it, you would have to use another bone. You shouldn't have an issue with accidentally giving 2 bones in a row with that method being used.
Of course, name tags should be coming when/if the anvil get implemented.

I like the idea of different coloured collars.
But I really wish, that dogs could have their colours changed similar to how it changes with an ocelot. Just tame the dog and it can change different colours.
So it can look like say.. Pitbull, Golden Retriever, Great Dane, etc.
I'd like that

"OH Dear God..... NOOOOO!!!! I gave a Timber Wolf a Bone and it transformed into a...a....a.... "
"Chihuahua!!!"

In all seriousness though, I do like this idea. Support!.
This especially would be relevant to when you and your friends' dogs are all in the same room etc.
Especially if there was a clear visible difference between your pet names and the pet names of other players (maybe tags on your pets are bolded and highlighted in a yellow font where other player's pet tags are merely a white normal font).

Yeah. That or just have the names above the dog when you're looking at them. Similar to when you look at a player. Either work I think.

I would imagine there would be a way to toggle it on or off like normal name tags

That's a good Idea
LMFAO!!!!!!! hahahahahhaa
That would be hilarious. A dog the size of a Silver Fish xD
